Dorothy, do you know where in VA and NC they lived? My Jones line ... Freeman Jones b. 1763 in Brunswick Co, VA. He, his mother, and his siblings moved to Rutherford Co NC after his father was killed early in the War, by Tories. There were numerous Jones [males] that fought in the Rev. war, including my Freeman. After the war, land was given to those that fought a certain amount of time, mostly in KY and TN. So far, I have been unable to give Freeman's mother and father a given name. Hugs, d. ----- Original Message ----- From: Dorothy McCarns To: jones@rootsweb.com Sent: 27 June, 2007 5:24 PM Subject: Re: [JONES] Jones families of Hancock co, Tn Our Jones family was in Haywood Co, and Lauderdale Co., TN in 1848 for sure when William Carnall/Carroll Jones married Nancy Ann Lankford. Got their license in Lauderdale but don't know yet where it was filed, but they did get married. Their sons were William, John and James Lafayette Jones. James is my great grandfather. He was born in 1853 in TN, married at least 3 times, and had six children all together. His children with first wife Lottie Bridges: Mary Ann and John. Child with second wife, Hannah Ella French: Louie Burl Jones, my grandfather. Children after that with 3rd (and maybe 4th wife?), name(s) unknown: Viola Lee, Bird E., and James E. I have some records on the children, but need to know who William Carnall/Carroll Jones' parents were, and how do they connect to William Jones of VA/NC? I have found info on William of VA/NC and his children but I am missing the connecting families. Two brick walls on this one family! We can't give up yet! I am seeing lots of possible matches for the in-betweens of my Jones line, and at least it gives me another place to look. I appreciate everyone listing their Jones lines! Dorothy
SILAS JONES IS A NEW ENGLAND JONES NAME. this is a very large line if ever put all together Melanie has a great site with some data on it. She is under rootsweb.com. When I first read this thought maybe from the JONES I flirting with in Greene CO PA. But Silas JONES SR family did migrate (some ) south ie his siblings 1730's. Your last sentence refers to William Jones of VA/NC. Would you tell me who his wife was and name a child or two. I've been up against that brick wall for 30 years. Thanks. Jack, I don't know his (William's) wife's name yet, but his children are Henry, John, Charles, Joane (married a Lysle), Elizabeth (can't find notes on her marriage), Dorothy (married a Spiers). I recently went to Salisbury, NC and did research in the library there, the archives is closed for renovation, and found a lot of information on Jones' and a lot that I know is my line, but I am still putting it all together. Since we brought our granddaughters home with us for the summer, it is slow going on the research. Since my dad is 86 I do want to get this done as soon as possible and try to see where the family's memories come from. So far I am not finding that connection in facts either. Hope this makes sense. I'll post more later, time to take Dad to the doctor and other important stuff of life! Dorothy
