I am doing some in-depth research on my Jones family that was in Henry Co. and Pittsylvania Co., VA. I am looking for a marriage record for William Wilson Jones to a Clarissa (possibly Holt) before 1817 in Virginia or possibly in Rockingham Co., NC. In the 1840 (Henry, VA) census it listed this couple had 4 sons and 2 daughters listed in the census. The 1850 (Henry, VA) census lists them with their son and grandchildren listed. Also in the 1850 census listed a Elizabeth Holt age 80 living with them. In Henry County, VA death records list a Elizabeth Holt age 90 died April 2 1859. I was told it listed her being the widow of Daniel Holt. Could these be the parents of Clarissa? In Henry Co., VA my 3rd great-grandfather married Rachel Jones on Dec. 10, 1822. Rachel Jones is a sister to Wilson Jones, their parents Buckner Jones and Nellie Wilson. Nellie Wilson is daughter of Daniel Wilson. Pascal Holt & Rachel Jones named one their sons Daniel Wilson Holt (my line). I am really beginning to really believe Daniel and Elizabeth Holt were his parents too. Rachel Jones grandfather father was Daniel Wilson. She has a brother named Wilson. Then Pascal might be son of Daniel Holt and his wife's middle name is Wilson. I am looking for any documented proof that might make any family connections above. Thanks Mike Genealogy LookUp Forum: Web Site of Genealogy Volunteers. I am looking for information on a Polly Jones who married John Holt on 20 Jun 1789 in Henry Co., VA. Who were Polly Jones parents? Did she have any sibblings? Did this couple have any children? A couple years ago another researcher told me she had in her files that my Pascal Holt's parents were John Holt & Polly Jones. She also said that he had a sister named Keziah who married Caleb Smith in Henry Co. However, this researcher could NOT tell me what her documented resource was and I am trying to locate any documention to prove or disprove her information. Any information would be appreciated. There are at least 4-5 different Mosias Jones. I just seem not to be able to make a connection with my Mosias Jones with the others even though there is possibly a connection somewhere. It is very easy to get them mixed up. I have seen several online trees and postings online with some wrong information for the other Mosias Jones. Researchers should double check their information if it was given to them by another researcher. Also pay close attention to dates of their vital stastictics, marriage(s) and census data to determine if you have the right Mosias Jones in your family. I have copy of my Mosias Jones Will and it was probated in Pittsylvania Co., VA on Oct. 17. 1796. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2007 22:51:28 -0700 From: susi c pentico Subject: Re: [JONES] Mosias Jones of Pittsylvania County, VA To: jones@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <3C4577C4-6319-457F-94A0-2850A2EBC975@cox.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed Adding to confusion who is the Mosias JONES born 1785 in Va living in District 8 Boone MO 1850? more confusion MOSIAS JONES JONES spouse Elizabeth born New Kent St Peters Parish, VA b 21 March 1720 m 1748 death Madison Co KY Apr 1808. this is obviously a son nephew or at least not the man mentioned in will. then this is posted with b same m 1746 and death same. I am seeking a marriage record or documentation that Mosias Jones was married to Lyddia Clarke. I descend from Buckner Jones (son of Mosias) and Nellie Wilson. Their daughter Rachel Jones married Paskel/Pascal Holt (my line) I have a copy of Mosias Jones WILL and the way it is written and worded does not in anyway protray or indicate that Lyddia Clark as his wife. It does not say what her relationship is to him. In fact, she is listed last in his WILL. His children and grandchildren are listed first. I feel that most likely she was his caretaker in his last days. I have not found a marriage record for them nor have I found a researcher who can provde proof of a marriage between the 2 of them. Here is a transcribed copy of the Will of Mosias Jones: In the name of God Amen: I, Mosias Jones, of Pittsylvania county, state of Virgina, being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, being sensible that I am near my latter end, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament. I resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body to the earth, to be interred at the discreation of my friends, with the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life at the last day, and dispose of my worldly goods in the manner and form following: First, I do constitute and ordain Clement Nance to be my executor, who is to get a lawful right and title to my land, whereon I now live, and to sell and dispose thereof, to the best advantage, out of which he must be paid for his trouble and expense. Also I give and bequeath unto my three daughters Susanna Jones, Martha Jones, Dianitia Jones, and my grand-daughter, Henrietta Jones, all the balance of the price of the above mentioned land, to be equally divided between them four. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Elizabeth James, one shilling Sterling. Also I give and bequeath to my daughter, Mary Nance, one shilling Sterling. I also give and bequeath to my daughter, Nancy Lee, one shilling Sterling. I also give and bequeath to my daughter, Wilmith Massey, one shilling Sterling. I also give and bequeath to my son, Buckner Jones, one shilling Sterling. I also give and bequeath to Lydda Clarke, all my houehold goods and kitchen furniture, to be by her possessed at my death. In witness whereof I do hereby set my hand and affix my seal to this my last will and testament, this eighteenth day of August, one thousand seven hundred and ninety-six Mosias M. According to Stanley Odell, Lydia Clark was was born 1728 Brubswick co VA. She married Mosias Jones 1747 in Lunenburg co VA. Was Clark her maiden name or was she previously married before she married Mosias? Was she his wife or caretaker? Who were her parents? - Source: Postings on Jones message board on genforum.com Stanley Odell also states that Mosias had a first wife named Mourning Harris. I am seeking further information for documented proof if this is a true fact. When were they married? Who were her parents? When and where did she die? He states that Mosias Jones is the son of Mosias Jones and Lucy Foster. Other sources online are conflicting with these facts. Need documented proof to sort what is accurate. There are researchers stating that Foster Jones (son of Mosias Jones and Lucy Foster) was married to a Mourning Harris.- Source: Postings on Jones Message Board on genforum.com Researchers can locate these postings at the following URL: http://genforum.genealogy.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?forum=jones&url=%2Fjones%2F&path=%2Fjones%2F&terms=mosias&boolean=AND Could anyone shed some light on this? In the Jones list archives I located a posting. This person with the email address ABaugh9618@aol.com named Ann on May 7, 1999 stated that Fielding Jones they had listed was in Madison Co., Ky. His will probated 1883. He was s/o Buckner & Nellie Nelson. Ch: Henrietta, Mary Jane, Wilson, Fielding, Susannah, Agnes, Rachel.....more research is needed to prove if this correct. Per the Henry County married records, Buckner Jones wife last name was Wilson. I have emailed this person for further information but I had not got a response back as of yet. Does anyone have any further information on this particular Fielding Jones?? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Mike Genealogy LookUp Forum: Web Site of Genealogy Volunteers. Does anyone know who this Fielding Jones that is listed in the 1850 census in Orange County, VA. He was born about 1792. Who were his parents? Did he have any sibblings? Who did he marry since there was no wife listed in the census. In the 1850 census, it listed a son named Thomas - age 12 and a daughter named Sarah E - age 8 living with him. Also listed above him on the census was a Catherine Jones - age 84. I am trying to locate a Fielding Jones, son of Buckner Jones & Nellie Wilson. Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to obtain information from a marriage bond for Fielding Jones & Lucinda Parish on April 14, 1836 in Person Co., NC. I was told it should be located at the State archives. I am trying to determine if this would be a son of my Buckner Jones & Nellie Wilson. I know there supposed to be a copy at the courthouse in Roxboro, NC. I was told it is possible the names of the parents for the bride & groom might be listed. If someone could check to see if their parents names are listed, it would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has any information on their children and grandchildren would be appreciated as well. Here is some information that I have found on them: Groom: Fielding Jones Bride: Lucinda Parish Bond_Date: 14 Apr 1836 Bond #: 000108024 Level Info: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 ImageNum: 006046 County: Person Record #: 01 086 Bondsman: Alexander Moore Witness: Oba Faulkner Researching Jones from Henry & Pittsylvania Counties, VA and Rockingham Co., NC Thanks Mike Genealogy LookUp Forum: Web Site of Genealogy Volunteers. Hello, I am interested in finding information about Snow Jones (1791-1862) who married Ann Lingrell(1793) in December, 1815, in Sussex County, Delaware. Ann Lingrell's father, NEHEMIAH LINGRELL. WHO DIED IN 1825 was married to The former Rosanna Paul. I am tracing my lineage to NEHEMIAH LINGRELL, in order to become a member of DAR. I know he served in the MD line in the Revolutionary War. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be a descendant and/or have information. Thank you, Donna Dienno Alexandria, VA
Does anyone have anything on Snow Jones m. Ann Lingrell in the late 1700's or early 1800's? Thx, Denise Watson Alexandria, VA
Let me jump in to say that my mother must have known Pleasant Jones as I recall the name. PLEASANT is in fact a surname from old Virginia. I've seen it many times. Larry, I have a William David Jones who lived in Jefferson County TN along the NC border. He was born about 1870 and lived there with his mother Margaret & father Martin Jones and various siblings. They later moved to McMinn & neighboring counties in TN and some of them moved to MO and then back to McMinn area of TN. There were a number of Jones in that area of TN & also in MO and in nearby NC as well. My person of interest is a William Jones, born circa 1807 probably in Virginia (Fauquier, Essex, Culpeper Counties), parents were Thomas Jones and Margarett (Unknown). Thomas and Margarett may have migrated from Virginia to the Pendleton County, Kentucky area and its possible that William was born in Kentucky, depending on the time of the move. I'm sorry for being so vague, but as I said I am trying to develop a lead and this is all that I have so far. If anyone has any of these names, places and dates in their file, please contact me and let's talk off list. Thanks to the list for your help and patience.
