I don't know how the cousin found out. I went on the JONES list months ago, looking for who that person could be. Maybe Sorenson gives an ID number so you can see the results of your test. They must give you something so you can load your gedcom. He put his gedcom up. When I first checked, I did not see a gedcom available for his results. I wish I knew the inner workings of that company better. I would never get tested with a company who did not give me my results. What's the point of testing? Susi, While I have not pursued it diligently I have been told by several sources that the records in St. Mary's County were destroyed during the Civil War. Many people have linked my Stephen Jones with Ambrose Jones of Granville NC although I have never really seen any document that could prove it. Stephen was the only one of the children of Ambrose who wasn't born in NC. I would love to be able to find out if he is linked to any of the Jones families in St. Mary's County, Md.? I really can't understand why they would NOT give you that information. At Genetree I only had to give my name, and address etc. That may have been because of the type of test that I took. I don't know. And the info required ~ may be different for the other tests. I don't know that either. I don't really like to give out a lot of info to these companies either. If I took a particular surname test for "Jones" for instance, I would certainly want the results to be able to compare to other Jones's DNA myself ~ not just to benefit the company's study. How are you to match DNA with other Jones's if you don't have the results of your test? Hi Larry, Don't feel bad about matches. My husband only matches with a cousin who had his done with Sorenson. Even then, there is a 2 marker difference. His Jones goes from VA to NC and then over to TN. I sure hope more JONES take the test. I even checked out Y Search and thought there would be a match in there but the person who seemed the most likely candidate, was at least a 5 marker difference at 37 markers. That's too big a leap for me. My husband had 0 for matches on his FTDNA home page. If you want to compare, his number in 32GRW on Y Search. I can't get his lines back to Wales, either. Only to England. They went from Wales and stayed in England for a few generations before coming over to VA. It looks like you are being asked to contribute your genealogy to yet another database and get nothing. I still have a bad feelings for the companies who have stolen my genealogy and have been selling it in databases and CDs for years and with no reference to the person who did the research and wrote it.

Hi, You can go to: http://www.familytreedna.com/(at4e1gb00ygjoyyics50q455)/surname_det.as px?group=Jones&projecttype=S Fill in the form. They will give you a code, etc. so you can order test at reduced project cost instead of standard FTDNA cost. They can answer all questions for you, including how many markers you should order, etc. I personally recommend 37 markers. You can always upgrade later if you start getting matches. Dear JONES researchers, I have just located a Joseph JONES listed in the INDEX OF NORTH CAROLINA ANCESTORS, Vol. II. Appears to have been published by NC Genealogical Society in 1984. JOSEPH JONES' death is listed as C1797, Franklin Co, NC, and his wife is listed as HANNAH (CODE 28728, not sure what this code # means). Does anyone have a connection to this family and his children. My family's story is that a Lottie Polly (aka Mary Elizabeth?) JONES mar our ancestor, Amos JOYNER, in Franklin Co, NC. If you have knowledge of this Joseph JONES, please contact me or write the list. Glad to share my genealogy info.
