Glad you repiled Scott, I meant to sent it to the Jay list. Leon
Kathy, That was the sweetest, kindest act of love that you did for your mother, I can tell you this not many kids would do that for their parents. She got to see where she grew up and where her both her grand parents and great grandparents lived, you just made her the happiest woman in the world. I know because when I was back in Louisiana we visited the land that her grand and great grand parents lived and some of her relatives that we didn't know even existed still live on the property today and my mom was so happy to just walk around on the property and tell us where the house use to be, etc. God bless your mom and you. I will be praying for your mom, but you stay strong and remember to appreciate, communicate and validate. Is any one researching Samuel Jones who was born 1796 and married Narcissa Tate? He lived in Georgia. Nancy
Leon, Got excited when I saw your message. Thought I'd have more to add to my Francis Jones III info. Darn the luck. Scott
Thanks to the JONES List, my ancestry family is now complete. I was able to take my 88 year old Mother by train on a 17 day journey to the "past." I rented a car and we drove to the little towns where her grandparents and great-grandparents lived, and saw where her father and mother were born. "Genies" from other LISTS helped me locate the homestead property. A very nice farmer (also a "genie") took us out there, and even dug some dirt for us to take home. (The grandkids are going to make a model of a sod house from it.) I was e-mailed photos of my ancestors, and articles about the towns. One nice man went to the court to search for the exact address of the little house built by Mom's grandfather THOMAS SMITH JONES in 1883 - its still there and in very good condition, and the kind owner invited us in to see the inside! Now its time to say good-by to all the lists, and I'm unsubcribing. Mom has been in the hospital in ICU for the past 14 days. I have been staying with her, and will be bringing her home to take care of her if she "makes it." I'm thankful to you all for each and every tidbit of info. It's been my hobby, and I'm almost sorry the "game" has ended. Now I'm writing the stories for my family. Thanks, and I hope you all find your "past." Cathie Coover

Hi, I think my Jones's came to Wayne Co. Ky. Mine is Nancy Jones m Levi Cooper She was born 1806 Her Father was Joshua Jones m Elizabeth Holiday His Father was Evan Jones m Miriam ??? Evan came to Lincoln Co. Ky before it was a state. Joshua was born in Lincoln Co. Ky. I have some e-mails that I have here that I'll look at when I find my note book. I have also when I was going and doing research work a Book on Wayne Co. Ky. And in it had another Jones family that wasn't a part of mine family I did find that out If you will I'll send it to you. It is an old copy of which I made a long time ago. That Joshua was a surveyor. born around 1750 or 40. He lived for awhile in Pa., and then moved Va. and then to Wayne Co. Ky. I didn't know about the third family. Boy no wonder it is so hard to keep everything straight. Will close for now. Just learned that Annice Jones Bagwell is the daughter of Andrew Jackson Jones and Permilla Weeks. Andrew was born in South Carolina, Permilla born in Georgia and Annice born in Mississippi. Anyone out there researching this family? Pattee
For all the hotmail/msn subscribers: It appears that they are really, really trying to fix the problem. There have been no bounces for Hotmail for nearly 24 hours now. I am trying to trace ancestors for: William J Jones, born 1862 +/-1yr in Deptford, London, England, married to Anne Elizabeth ?, Children: Annie, born 1887 Florence 1889 Charles W 1892 Gertrude 1893 Henry 14 March 1894 Robert 1897 Brother of William J Jones, Samual Chamberlain. Any leads appreciated. Clive Jones
Sandra There are Freemans and Jones in Wake and Franklin Counties in NC. Some of the Jones had the first name Hawkins. I know that some people from this area did go to Marshall County, MS, in the mid 1800s. Preston
Karen, I haven't found a connection but I've looked at Benjamin often. I found him in the 1880 Marshall Co., MS census, age 62, born in NC. That would make him born in 1818 and a good possibility as a brother to my Wyatt. The census indicated wife, MC Jones, age 46 born in Alabama. Children: Son, W.H. age 19, daughter, E.J. age 15, son, T.H. age 10, daughter E.E. age 7, son J.S. age 4, and an Emily Freeman, sister age 68 born in NC. All children were born in MS. Hope we can connect someday, Sandra
Have you found any connection to the family of Benjamin Jones of Marshall County? I'm still looking for a connection between Benjamin and my family which was in Hardeman Co. Tn. We have corresponded before about this family. Karen
It seems we have some new people on the list so I'm posting this name in case anyone has ever heard of him. Wyatt Hawkins Jones, b.1822 and according to numerous census was born in NC. He was in DeSoto Co., MS in 1850 with wife, Mary Cornelia ??Goodwin?? but the 1850 census shows her as Permelia. All census I've seen says she was born in TN. They settled in Marshall Co., MS where they died. I've heard from Ed Jones (I believe) from this list who gave me a lead but I can't get in touch with the person he told me about that had some info. Just hoping someone out there can help. Thanks, Sandra
I am interested in what you find on Green Jones also. My Joneses come from the Rockingham-Guilford-Randolph counties area. You mentioned Sarah Amanda Jones married to a James monroe Scott. I also have the name Scott connected to my Jones tree; Jane Elizabeth Scott who married a Henry Sylvester Jones. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I am looking for info on Charley Jones, most likely the son of Henry Sylvester Jones (Of Ellijay, GA) and Jane Elizabeth Scott of NC. Charley was born in NC,1882 or 83,and married Alice Louisa Brady (born in NC 1876). They were my grandparents and though I have info on the Brady bunch, I can find nothing on Charley (ie?) Jones; perhaps because he was the black sheep of the family? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Carol, I can tell you put a lot of thought in your explanation. Thank you very much. Liz
I am not an authority on Welsh naming conventions, but from what I understand before they used last names a child's name was its given name then the son or daughter of the father. My name in Welsh would be Carol ferch (or verch) Vaughn. I am Carol and my father's first name was Vaughn therefore I am Carol the daughter of Vaughn. My first Vaughn ancestor was actually John Vaughan ap Llewellyn. When people began to use last names he became John Vaughan while others in the same family became the Llewellyns. Carol
