Would everyone please remember to change the subject line of your posts to something relevant to your topic? Also a subject line of "JONES" isn't really helpful in letting other listmembers know what the email topic is about -- after all, we're all researching Jones Thanks very much. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I don't know how many of you know about gencircles.com , but I would like to see more Jones's researchers post to it. I suppose I am being selfish about this, because I would love to see more matches to my information. What it does is take your information and gives you "smart matches". They do not sell your GEDCOM. You can't download a complete GED. You can download parts, but you are protected somewhat. I have several GEDs uploaded to the site. The one I have on the Wells line has several hundred "smart matches", so needless to say, I haven't been through them all. I would love to see Jones matches. We have probably the hardest surname to research and this can only be a boon. Please consider it. Is any one researching Anson Jones born Circa 1844 in California? I also wanted to know if any one has access to California Census records? I found Anson's brother Willis Jones living in Placer County, Bath PO, page 29 and next house above him is Anson Jones. Also his father in law is on page 32, Michael Dofferty. I hope this is not to lengthy but I hoped if I gave you enough information on the family someone could connect. Please contact me if any one recognizes these names. Anson Jones was raised in Lumpkin County, Georgia circa 1844. He was the son of William Jones and Elizabeth Perry. Anson served in the Civil War and was on the muster roll of Co. E., in Phillips Legion Georgia Infantry, serving in the Army in North Virginia C.S.A., Lumpkin County, Georgia, Blue Ridge Rifles. He was a private enlisting March 1, 1863. Confederate muster rolls show he deserted around Cleveland, Tennessee on November 7, 1863. He took his oath of allegience at Chattanooga, Tennessee March 5, 1864. He then joined Co., I., 12th. Tennessee Cavalry as a private. Anson suffered greatly from sickness he contracted while in the Civil war. He contracted measles in March of 1864. His brother Samuel testified as well as Newton Jones that Anson was in camp with them and after a heavy march in pursuit of General Hood from Nashville to the Tennessee River that Anson passed out at camp. He was unconscious for several days. His Commanding officer ordered him into the Regt. Hospital in Nashville and he was diagnosed with a severe cold and cough and measles. (This was also where his Uncle John C. Jones Sr. worked as a nurse for 13 months). Anson remained at the hospital for a month and returned to duty but a few days later in camp he once again fell ill and ordered back to the hospital. This time Anson had small pox and remained through most of the summer. After he was released a second time his commanding officer stated that Anson was in frail and feeble health so he made him the regt. cook from then on. Anson was discharged on October 7, 1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas with his brother Samuel Jones. Samuel and Anson traveled back to Georgia for a quick visit but reported on his pension application he was in California in November 1, 1866 at which time he lived at Colfax or Forest Hill, Placer County, California until February 1877. Forest Hill was a lively gold mining town for many years. During this time Anson met and married Catherine Agnes Daugherty/Dougherty/Dofferty. She was the daughter of Michael Daugherty. Catherine was born in New York on March 13, 1855. Anson and Catherine were married on July 3, 1875 at San Francisco, San Francisco County, California. Rev. James Largan a Catholic Clergyman married them. Catherine was 20 years old and Anson was 29 years old. Both resided at Forest Hill, Placer County, California. Anson primary occupation was a miner and farmer. For a several years before Ansons death and shortly prior to his death, Anson was a toll collector. He lived in the Companys house as partial payment for his services. Anson stated on his pension application that He, Catherine and family moved to You Bet, Nevada County, California from 1877 to 1886. Anson is listed on the Voters Register for 1880 here. They returned in 1886 to Placer County, California and lived between Colfax and Forest Hill area. He is listed on the Voters Register of Placer County, California for the year of 1890. Anson and family are found on the Little York, Nevada County, California US 1880 Census page 154C. How come it says he was born in MO? Or is this a different person whom is replying to my email? I am sorry I am replying to Sharon's email..... but I have found a John W. Jones in the 1920 census of MO, he was born in Sweden and Mary was from Ohio, Everett W. N. Jones age 26 was born in MO. This Everett is was born around the sometime as My Everett Jones, My Everett would have been 26 in the 1920 Census and so is this one I am just not real sure if it is the right one. His age puts him around 1894 and this is when my Everett was born. Does anyone have any connections to any of these names??? Sherry, If your John W. Jones was a married man by 1892, and he must have been, since the child was born in 1892, very likely John W. Jones was listed on the Missouri 1880 census, either as head of his own household or as a single male living in the household of his parents. Fortunately, the 1880 every-name census is now available on CD, and can be searched very easily. At any large library near you, ask to use this CD, and find your family in a matter of minutes. ================================ email screened by Norton AntiVirus 2002 ================================ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alice Jones" <abby@ellijay.com> To: <JONES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 12, 2002 10:04 PM Subject: Re: [Jones] JONES > My John W. Sorry it took so long to answer you. I had pnuemonia from a bad case of bronchitis and was not able to do much at all. My Anson Jones so far is not related to the Anson Jones of Texas. Although the dates do look right but his parents are listed intirely differant than mine. I wish it were. Thanks for the message though. I finally found an index that showed his brother Willis Jones in Placer County California and his brother listed in another household next door. I have not been able to actually see the census as this was only an index. but it was for 1870. Thanks again Nancy

There has been some discussion on Heritagequest, I saw this at the bottom of there page. If you take out a membership for $29.95 it does not include online access..... Here is the note from their page. DOES NOT INCLUDE HERITAGEQUEST ONLINE ACCESS. Visit Genealogy.com for individual subscription to U.S. Census and Genealogy & Local History online collections. Hope that helps someone, I was going to take a subscription then saw it Becky P. Eagar, AZ
Thank you . You got me , I don't know if they are either . All I know is William Jones of Green Co., GA. anything other than that and I'm a lost goose . I did check 1850 Panola Co., MS census but none that the age would fit having a daughter born 1803 . The father was born in AL, the mother in GA, and the son in MS. I was scanning for a James Jones with a wife Nancy and this family fell out. This is possibly my great grandfather and family, but I am not sure. If so, they were in Tunica County MS by 1871 when my grandfather was born, then in Texas before 1900. Haven't found them in 1880 yet. Aloha Wayne -----Original Message----- From: Phyllis L. If you go to the site and click on the Heritage link and go to it's home page, you can join for $29.95 a year. At least, that is what it looks like to me. I haven't joined, yet...a little low on funds, but I plan to do so, later. --- On Fri 10/11, Sharron Bowers wrote: From: Sharron Bowers [mailto: sharronbow@yahoo.com] To: JONES-L@rootsweb.com Date: Fri, 11 Oct 2002 11:57:03 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [Jones] fremont library > I e mailed the library, they had found that it was > ilegal to use the HeritageQuest program in that way > and encouraged us to talk our own local libraries to > invest in the program!!
