Let Charley's posting be the last word on this subject. I have suspended three people for continuing the discussion for one week and really hope no one else feels compelled to continue this topic. So let's do something interesting: post your Most Sought After Jones Ancestor to the List. For example: John Jones, Hamilton Co., TN died about 1830 = looking for his burial site. Put something relevant to your posting in the subject line (please don't recycle the previous message subject!). Give us who, what, where & when. To Sherry and the rest of the listers, The list host is correct. Such things as these can permeate lists and perpetuate themselves to the point of clogging our lists' threads. HOWEVER--I do feel it necessary to know of such problems should they be the real thing. That is why we need to adhere to the host's request and contact them directly in such cases. We can also do our part to squelch such stories and hoaxes by using the two websites below BEFORE starting a panic. I have used they often to debunk hoaxes about viruses and sicko stories. THEN we can pass on the info to the list host. http://www.urbanlegends.com/ http://www.hoaxkill.com/index2.thtml Just trying to keep the peace......... You might try finding a website of Creston, Iowa and leave a message there, or even call the city hall in that county and see if they have a historical society or even a library there and they may be able to find out who this person or persons are. Hi researchers, I am looking for the ancestors of Johannes Jr. and Elizabeth GOEWEY (details below) and would like very much to contact other GOEWEY or JONES descendants in order to compare and share research. They are my 3rd great grandparents. Thank you in advance, Jan Jordan Northern Vermont researching GOEWEY, JONES, OSTRANDER, LEWIS, SHARP(E) Johannes GOEWEY Jr. was born 26 January 1766 in New York, baptised 2 February 1776 at Reform Dutch Church, Albany, NY, son of Barent GOEWEY and Rachel OSTRANDER. I am looking for a brother of John C. Jones born 1800. In the family bible and letters from the early 1800's, letters were written to born 1796. there are letters from brothers Samuel , William, Joab and sister Elizabeth. Joab Jones was a surveyer and might have lived in another State. The above were born in SC. Thier parents were Willis JOnes and Rebecca Case. William died in SC in 1804. They moved to family in NC and migrated to Georgia prior to 1819. This Jones branch of Georgia were called the Chestetee Jones, as they crossed the Chestetee River to come to Georgia. The other Jones in Georgia at that time were the Cane Break Jones as this is the settlement they came from. In the early 1800's this is how they identified themselves in records. Rebecca Case Jones lived to be almost 100 and died Sept. 7, 1870 and died in Gilmer County, Georgia. She was known only in her later years as the Widow Jones. Samuel Jones married NArcissa Tate. He was famous for his services in the Revolutionary war and in his DAR file a copy of Samuel Jones's bible was presented to show birthdates and children. It lists Willis as his father. A close relationship between Willis Jones of SC and Lewis Jones of SC according to the estate. I dont know the relationship. Lewis was married to Cherry (Chastity) Jones and died in 1805. Nancy

My friend's son is a computer programmer. What he told her to do in case of viruses that pirate a person's address book is to create an invalid address that will always be the first address in your book. Mine !000 and the name connected to it is worm alert. This will supposedly stop the message from being sent because the first address is invalid. In any case, if you have a get a mailer daemon in your inbox for worm alert you KNOW that you have a virus and can take whatever steps are necessary to deal with it. I hope that this helps. Carol
You can always check for virus hoaxes at www.symantec.com if you're worried about an email you've gotten. You can also check at www.snopes.com, this is a site for urban legends but also includes email hoaxes and virus hoaxes. I always check any virus warnings I get at these sites before sending any information on. Karin

In the Welcome Letter each of you received when joining the JONES List (and most other Rootsweb Lists as well), it is clearly stated that there will be NO VIRUS discussions or postings regarding viruses, real or imagined, to the List. It also appears occasionally on a tagline at the end of a posting and there have been many times I have told the list NOT to post virus warnings but to contact me off-list if they believe they might have a virus that might affect other listmembers. If someone really wants to talk about and hear about viruses, please join VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L by emailing virus-discussion-l-request@rootsweb.com Jdbgmgr.exe file hoax has been around for a long time. There are other similiar hoaxes as well and I would strongly suggest that anyone who receives an email, even from a trusted friend, check out the facts before they go deleting files from their computer. A simple check for jdbgmgr.exe on Yahoo took 1 second and this is what I got from the Symantec website: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/jdbgmgr.exe.file.hoax.html There will be NO further discussions of viruses, hoaxes, etc., NO posting of virus warnings, etc. Anyone who does so, will be unsubscribed from the List for a week. Perhaps to avert repeated alerts, Rootsweb might add to the site where to check FIRST for virus alerts? These alerts are sent in good conscience; I hate for anyone to feel bad about posting false alert, but perhaps subscription info could include this?
I was sent this email, and found that I had this in my files please do the following... Sorry Everyone I had No idea.... Sent: Monday, October 21, 2002 7:44 PM THIS IS FOR REAL: I have just learned that my computer was infected through a friend's infected e-mail address book. This virus automatically infects the recipients e-mail address book too. So I am letting everyone in my address book know. The virus (called jdbgmgr.exe) is not detected by Norton or McAfee Anti-virus systems. The virus sits quietly for 14 days before damaging the system. It is sent automatically by messenger and by the address book, whether or not you sent e-mails to everyone. I followed her instructions and deleted it, but it has probably been passed on to everyone in my address book (which means you). I am therefore giving you the exact instructions and information she gave me, and I urge you to follow them and get rid of the virus. Seems it lies dormant for 14 days, so there is plenty of time. The message follows: Here is how to check for the virus and to get rid of it. It is very simple. YOU MUST DO THIS: 1. Go to Start, Find or Search option. 2. In the files/folders option, write the name jdbgmgr.exe 3. Be sure you search your C and D drive and any other drives you may have. 4. Click "find now". 5. The virus has a teddy bear icon with the name jdbgmgr.exe DO NOT OPEN IT!!!!! 6. Go to Edit. Choose "Select All" to highlight the file without opening it. 7. Now go to File and select Delete. It will then go into the recycle bin. 8. Go to the recycle bin and delete it there as well. Select All, permanently delete, etc. IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS, YOU MUST CONTACT ALL THE PEOPLE IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK SO THEY CAN ERADICATE IT IN THEIR OWN ADDRESS BOOKS. Sorry about this. I am pretty sure everyone in my address book will have it. To send this message to everyone in your address book: 1. Open a new e-mail message. 2. Click the photo of address book next to "TO" 3. Click every name and add it to "BCC" 4. Copy this message, paste to e-mail, enter subject and send. I GOT THIS IN MY E-MAIL TODAY AND I'VE ALREADY DELETED THE FILE FROM MY COMPUTER. I HOPE YOU CAN ALL DELETE IT QUICKLY. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE! Joe Thanks Everyone, Sherry
