Have now found that the father of my wife's ancestor, Jacob Brown Jones, probably is Silas Jones of Surry County, North Carolina. Have Silas born c1827 in North Carolina and listed in the following Census records. 1860 Dobbs Township, Surry County, North Carolina 284/284 Silas Jones, 33, male, white, farmerl 50, 250, b NC Rozina, 23, female, white, b NC Daniel, 1, male, white, b NC M. Jones of South Carolina. Have Samuel listed in the following Census records: 1810 Stokes County, North Carolina Samuel Jones one male age 16-26, one female under age 10, one female age 16-26. 1830 Surry County, North Carolina Samuel Jones one male under age 5, two males age 15-20, one male age 40-50, one female under age 5, two females age 10-15, one female at 40-50. 1840 Surry County, North Carolina Samuel Jones one male age 5-10, one male age 10-15, two males age 20-30, one male age 50-60, one female age 5-10, one female age 15-20, one female age 50-60. 1850 North Division, Surry County, North Carolina 560/560 Samuel H. Jones, 63, m, farmer, 700, b SC Elizabeth, 62, f, b NJ Silas, 22, m, laborer, b NC Mary, 21, f, b NC Litha, 19, f, b NC Samuel H., 16, m, b NC 1860 Dobbs Township, Surry County, North Carolina 283/283 Samuel H. Jones, 72, m, w, bricklayer, 578, 500, b SC Elizabeth, 72, f, w, b NJ Found a family file in RootsWeb that has the wife of Samuel H. Jones listed as Elizabeth Wortman and has a few generations of her ancestors. Samuel and Elizabeth were married in Stokes County, North Carolina on 29 March 1809. Does anyone know who the parents of Samuel H. Jones were????? Census records would seem to indicate the possibility of Silas or Levy. Census would also seem to indicate other children for Samuel. Any clue for their names??? Since I got this lucky finding the Jones needle in the haystack, I decided to look for the family of Silas Jones wife, Rozina, whose maiden name happens to be Smith - just another needle in the haystack. But luck found its way to me again. Silas Jones married Rozina Smith on 11 December 1856 in Surry County, North Carolina. A check of the 1850 Census finds this: 1850 North Division, Surry County, North Carolina 759/759 Bartholomew Smith, 39, m, farmer, b NC Mary, 39, f, b NC Nancy, 17, f, b NC William, 15, m, b NC Rosna, 13, f, b NC James M., 11, m, b NC Susannah, 8, f, b NC Martha, 6, f, b NC Julia, 4, f, b NC John, 1, m, b NC Bartholomew Smith was married to Polly Hodges on 29 August 1831 in Surry County, North Carolina Any further information on the Jones family appreciated, Michael

Robin, My name is Liz and I'm doing research on what I think may be the same line of Jones'. My line came from SC to AL. and on to MS. Do you have any from MS? I'm going to MS this Wednesday for a Jones family reunion this weekend. I'm very excited. There will be family there that I haven't seen for over 25 years. Let me hear from you. Sincerely, Liz Jones Cagle
My most elusive JONES: the parents of Jacob JONES (1732 Wilmington, DE - d 1828 Knottsville, Monongalia (Taylor) Co, (W)VA, m Dinah STANTON of Egg Harbor, NJ). My files show the following data: Mother's Name: Thought to be Hannah WILKS (Wilkes?), b abt 1700, DE; 2nd husband Samuel LLEWELLYN. Emigrated to (W)VA. Father: Died shortly after Jacob JONES was born. What was his name? Does anyone know who were Jacob JONES' parents? Where they came from? Who were their ancestors? Thank you. -- Roberta L. Everling

Hi, Please take the time to list your Jones, date and place instead of "Most Wanted" or no subject. Most of us receive boo-koodles of mail. Parents of: George Ulysses Jones, b. 1830 somewhere in West Virginia ( I think).
Looking for Joel JONES. He was born abt 1779 in NC were he spent most of his early childhood before his family moved to SC. He married Cozar ORR abt 1814 in SC. Cozar was born abt 1794 in NC (Because of this large age difference between Joel and Cozar- I wonder if he wasn't married before!). They had the following known children; Henry E-abt 1820, Nancy-abt 1827 and two unknown daughters-bet 1818-1826. There are two others that may have been Joel's son; George Joseph-1824 and James-1826. By 1820's Joel moved his young family to GA. Cozar died bef 1828 in GA under unusual conditions. Joel and a Kissiah (Keziah) ORR where accused of murdering an Anna ORR who was said to be Joel's wife (we don't know if this is Cozar and Ann was her middle name or not), they were NOT indicted and shortly thereafter on Aug 18,1828 in Jasper CO, GA Joel and Kissiah were married. Kissiah may have been a sister or sister-in-law to Cozar. Joel and Kissiah had the following known children; Cullen-1830, Franklin-1832 and Elizabeth-1834. In 1850 Joel moved to Stewart Co, GA at age 71. And by 1860 he had moved to Dale CO, AL near his son Henry. Joel died aft 1870 in Dale CO, AL. Kissiah also died abt that same time. There is a possibility that Joel's father was a William JONES, but this is not proven. Any information about this family would be helpful. Georgann Hunter TX whunter@ominiglobal.net
For the person looking for GROVER: In my futile search for my missing NC grandpa, Charlie Jones, I have made pages and pages of notes which have NOT led to "my" charlie. However, I have a note here which simply says:"Grover Jones, married Addie Gentry, son Charlie A Jones". I don't know where I found that, but I can research it if you would like.
I forgot to mention that I believe that Anna Jones is white and of English descent. She does appear to be white in her pictures, and I have never heard otherwise. However, her granddaughter, Violet Etta Detherage, did marry Hershul Raymond Balllinger, who was half Western Cherokee. His mother, Claricy Isabell Moore, was full-blooded. I have no idea what her native name was, and have no records of her whatsoever. I have pictures of her as well. melissa
