Ok, time to stir the pot a little. The 1850 Colimbia Co, Fla census pretty well confirms what we have all said. I will give you the visitation #,name(s),age, sex and state of birth: 350 William Driggers 76 M SC Emely Driggers 66 F Ga Ealenor Lastinger37 F Ga Milly Driggers 13 M Ga (census says M for sex) Elezabeth Jones 24 F Ga 351 Jonas and family 352 James Green and wife Diana 353 Elisha Green 57 M SC Elezabeth Green 24 F Ga David E. Green 22 M Ga Diana Green 3 F Fa Jane Green 1 F Fa William Green 3/12 M Fa I have a Jones cousin who suspects this Elezabeth is the daughter of Simeon Jones and Nancy Driggers, the folks a Jones family Bible stated were the parents of James Alfred Jones, my G-GF. Clydie knows how I've tried to tie the Joneses and Driggers. The big problem is finding this Simeon/Nancy connection. I won't quit. Does anyone have information on Joshua JONES who married Elizabeth BLISS ? They probably lived in or near Colchester, New London Co., CT 1750-1770. About 1770 their daughter Anna/Anne JONES married Eliphalet GRAVES. Eliphalet and Anna (Jones) Graves lived in/near Shelburne and Colrain, Franklin/Hampshire Co., MA, for many years before moving to New York. -- Helen Graves
Hello List, I know this isn't much of a clue, but has anyone out there have a man with the last name of Jones who died when a levy broke. The state would have been Georgia (Or at least in the South for sure!). This man is my great great grandfather's brother. If I can track him down. Thanks, Peggy peggy@image2000.com (P.S. mid to late 1800's)

Thank You Very much! I have been searching the Census records and found nothing on them of course I could have just looked right over it to. This is them though. Ok I will look as well if I find anything I will let you know. I do know that Grace's maiden name was Newsom and also with an e Newsome if you could find something on her parents. Grace Irene Newsome born in Stokes Co. NC Oct. 23, 1911 or 1912. That would be great if your Jones Line and mine connected I have been searching for this line for a year and found nothing cause my dad didn't have any info or well he says he couldn't remember anything about them. Looking for any information on a William Newberry Jones, Washington County, Indiana. Date - between 1817 and 1850. Any help appreciated. Liz
The arrival of my first child, Gwendolyn, has spurred me to compile a family history for her. William & Jane Jones are my GG-grandparents. Their 1881 household census data are: Name Age Born Birthplace Occupation William JONES 36 <1845> Dolgarog, Caernarvon Labourer Jane JONES 31 <1850> Llanrwst, Denbigh Wife Robert JONES 10 <1871> Penmaenmawr, Caernarvon William JONES 8 <1873> Penmaenmawr, Caernarvon Edward JONES 3 <1878> Penmaenmawr, Caernarvon On 6 Sep 1888 they added Ernest, my g-grandfather. Ernest immigrated here to Western Pennsylvania in 1906. I was lucky enough to have know him and still have the silver dollars he would give me for doing chores. I have much more information on the Earnest Jones line, and I would be happy to share it if anyone is interested. I REQUEST WILLIAM & JANE JONES ANCESTOTY. All I know about them is above; I want to learn anything I can. I would appreciate any information or leads. The 1830 Bulloch Co. census list a Nancy Driggers as having a teenage son and daughter and an older woman in her household. It also lists a Mary Driggers as having three females rahning from under five to under 50. My Rawls kin say the parents of James Alfred Jones, who was born 22 Feb 1832 in Bulloch CO, were Simon Jones and Mary Driggers. Some of my Jones kin say it was Simeon Jones and Nancy Driggers. Does anyone have any info on these ladies from the 1830 census...who they were, where they came from/went, any spouces? This same census lists an Ephraim Driggers with a couple of sons and a woman of 20-30 yrs of age. Anyone know who she was? What might have happened to Ephraim? Also, I think it was the 1820 Bulloch Co census which lists a Hammer Driggers...???? For all these years I have only seen that John Lawrence Jones, who m. Lucy Taliaferro, daughter of Revolutionary Soldier Dr. John Taliaferro and Mary Hardin, was most likely born in Surry County, NC. A researcher has found a reference to the couple in the Taliaferro section of The McCubbins Collection from the Rowan County, NC Library that named the husband of Lucy Taliaferro as John Lawrence Jones "of Morgan (District?), Wilkes County." The McCubbins Collection is a collection of 76 reels of surname based research by Mamie Elizabeth Gaskell McCubbins, the wife of a circuit judge in North Carolina in the late 1800s and early 1900s. She had a passion for genealogical research, and as she traveled with her husband on his rounds, she would research families and North Carolina history in the courthouses and communities she visited. Checking further in Wilkes County, NC, the 1790 census of Wilkes County, NC has Jno L. Jones 1 male over 16, 4 males under 16 and 2 females. Does anyone have any knowledge of whether or not John Lawrence Jones who died in Wilkinson County, GA in 1830 might have been in Wilkes County, NC? Thanks. W. Chris Jones Roswell, GA
I apologize that on my posting earlier today (re Frances JONES and Land JONES) I neglected to say that the events I discussed took place in Virginia (Williamsburg, King William County, and York County) mostly between 1720 and 1740. Sorry.
The article below is from the Daily Advocate, Belleville, St. Clair county, IL. I have on file a letter from the Belleville News Democrat (which the Advocate became a part of in later years) giving me permission to post any item that would be of help to genealogists. Unless stated to be a different state, all references to cities, villages etc. are in Illinois. I have been reading the Advocate on microfilm through inter library loan for several years, having started with 1850. The name of the paper and the paper date are shown at the end of each article. This does not relate to the Jones line I am researching. Transcribed and submitted by Nancy Giles. To Celebrate 60th Anniversary Mr and Mrs. Jonathan Jones, prominent citizens of Marissa, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, Saturday, August 29, when they will hold open house at their home at 101 North Border street, Marissa, from two to four o'clock in the afternoon and from 7 to 9:30 o'clock in the evening. The celebrants were married at the Baptist parsonage in Belleville on August 29, 1893. Their attendants were Mr and Mrs. George Fager. Mrs. Fager, who is a sister of Mrs. Jones, is living in Kansas City. Both Mr and Mrs. Jones are members of pioneer families of the Marissa area. Mrs. Jones was one of five child of Mr and Mrs. Harrison Dial, who lived near Darmstadt. Mr Jones is the son of Jonathan Jones of Llanelly, Beaconshire, Wales, and Kezia Davies, born at Pontypool, Monmouthsire, England. Mr. Jones' parents came to this country after their marriage and settled at White Oak, east of Marissa where his father engaged in mining and where the family of five sons and one daughter grew up. The elder Mr. Jones and his five sons formed the Eureka Coal Company and started two mines, Eureka Mine No. 1 and No. 2, between Marissa and Tilden, which they operated for approximately 50 years. The younger Mr. Jones served as engineer at Eureka Mine No. 1 during these years. The celebrants are still very active in spite of their advanced years. They have just returned from their annual visit to Denver where they visited a son and daughter and their families. Since retiring, Mr. Jones devotes most of his time to his garden and flowers while Mrs. Jones does her own housework in addition to participating in many outside activities. They are the oldest members of the Marissa Methodist church where Mrs. Jones is a member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, the W. C. T. U., and is a charter member and first president of the Robert F. Arnold Post of the American Legion Auxiliary of Marissa. Five children were born to the union, one son dying in infancy. The remaining children are: Mrs. Vernice Stewart, a teacher in the Marissa Public school; Herschel Jones, of Bellingham, Wash.; Mrs. Edna Engelhardt, an employee at the Fitzsimmons Veterans hospital; and Wendell Jones, an employee of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, both living in Denver, Colo. There are four grandchildren: Margaret and Loren, children of Mr and Mrs. Herschel Jones; Paul Engelhardt, son of Mr and Mrs. Arthur Engelhardt; and Sue Ann Jones, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Wendell Jones. David Engelhardt, son of Mr and Mrs. Paul Engelhardt, of Denver, is their only great-grandson. Mr. Jones has two living brothers, Charles Jones, with who with his wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last December and John Jones, and a sister, Mrs. Winifred Scott, all of Marissa. Another brother, Will Jones and his wife, now both deceased, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary several years ago. Mrs. Jones has one living sister, Mrs. Hattie Fager, of Kansas City, whom she visited enroute home from Denver, Colo. Mr and Mrs. Arthur Engelhardt and Mr and Mrs. Wendell Jones and Sue Ann, all of Denver, are in Marissa for the celebration. The couple's son, Herschel and grandson, Paul Engelhardt, and their families will visit them later in the fall. (There is a nice photo of the couple with this article which I will be glad to scan and send to anyone related to this couple. The Daily Advocate, Belleville, IL August 29, 1953 In a separate e-mail I am sending the article about the other 60th anniversary mentioned in this article.
I am looking for information about Frances JONES b 1710 and Lane JONES b 1707 to Orlando JONES and Martha MACON. They had residences in Williamsburg, King William CO, and York CO but I don't know where the children were born. After Martha Macon d 1716 Orlando Jones m2 Mary Elizabeth WILLIAMS. Orlando Jones then d 1719 and in his will asked his second wife to bring up his daughter Frances. In 1720 she m2 Jean-Jacques FLOURNOY who in 1721 was qualified by the court to be the children's guardian; both were left considerable property by Orlando's will. Within the next five years new guardians had been appointed for both children with the new guardians (Orlando's sister and a local Justice of the Peace) bringing suit against FLOURNOY who in the meantime had begun to amass a great deal of land although he does not appear to have had money before his marriage to Mary Elizabeth. All of this suggests that Flournoy may have been mishandling the children's estates but that is a guess. It sounds as if no love was lost between Flournoy and the Jones family. My questions are: 1) since Lane was not mentioned in his father's will but was not yet of age, was someone else raising him? 2) Does anyone know the circumstances of these children's lives? There may be research going on since the JONES family was prominent; Frances was to grow up and become George Washington's mother-in-law. Also, Orlando's father Rev. Rowland Jones was founding pastor of Bruton Parish Church in Williamsburg and Orlando served in the Virginia House of Burgesses. Please contact direct.
While doing volunteer data entry at our local library in Ontario, California, I came across this obituary which might be of some interest to someone on this list.
