From what I have found there were about 3 different branches of Jones in Ga, My branch were Quakers, who later moved to Ohio, then branched out all over. This was Francis Jones and his son Samuel. Leon
One Jones Family, Francis Jones, wife Rachel Newton came to the US in 1708 from Wales. His family came with him, Samuel Jones, married Hannah Lloyd, Francis Jones, married Jane Wallis and Henry Jones, married Eleanor Lindley, some say a fourth son Josa Jones, but I have nothing on him. Samuel was married when he came to the US with his father. Leon Hachat
I Have the same names , but later generation in my fathers family.Fransis, Henry, Samuel. My greatgrandfather Andrew Jackson Jones is my brick wall. I have been unable to find his parents . Jacksons civil war record states that his father was born in Ga. his mother in Va. They then ,were in Indiana in 1840 when Jackson was born. Some of you Jones' must be related. ----- Original Message ----- From: <LRhachat@aol.com> > One Jones Family, Francis Jones, wife Rachel Newton came to the

Hi, For those of you who have a Richard Jones who married Miriam Coppock . I have not done any research work because of an accident I had several years ago. I don't know what is out there now. But I think that this Richard Jones might have been over here and went to MD. according to what some of the e-mails that I have been getting. According to one e-mail that I got this past year Richard's father was Richard also. If that is the case then Richard Jr. married into the Quakers or had to be one beforehand. I have really enjoyed all of the E-mails that is put out by all of you people. I just want to say THANK YOU All. I have learned a lot about the Joneses and I hope to learn more about them this year also. Thank you again Gloria gholder4@juno.com On Sun, 05 Jan 2003 21:08:49 -0500 dotsicle5@cs.com writes: > Ted, where in NC did your Richard Jones come from? I am assuming that the Madison name was taken from some possible well know person of that day and time, just passed on down and kin those days honored their newly born their family name more so than now. Giles Co Va, the only thing I can come up with are some of my other kin, THE BLANDS ( Some most Interesting stuff here)as I as thinking this is where the name GILES might come from. I wish I could help but I am at the mercy of others at this point on my Jones's. I am going BACK toTennessee and get more information on those I do have. One thing to look for, the Jones men were lumber men, my dad was called quite an authority on hardwood lumber, as his dad was also a lumber man. My brother was for 44 years. Me, I chose parachuting for our Uncle, couldn't read a rule but earned 4 prs of jump wings in my time. Kidding about reading . Names associated in my lines are Bankston, Bennett, Robertson, Bland, Lee, Randolph. I know more about the first five names than the others, McHenry and THE JONES'S. Ok, so my mother said that she was told that one of her Jones ancestors was governor (she thought maybe VA but did not know) she said that his brother was hung for being a horse thief. Does that make us related? ;-) Donna ----- Original Message ----- From: "jenjoet" <jenjoet@rof.net> To: <JONES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 05, 2003 5:54 PM Subject: Re: [Jones] Early Joneses > Hi I have heard a story about stealing horses from one of my relative. > Sorry, this person passed on and could not get any more of this. Ted, I was interested in the name of your grandfather, David Madison Jones b. 1857. My great-grandfather was Madison Floyd Jones b. Aug. 11, 1844 in Giles Co., VA d. Feb. 24, 1924 in Giles Co., VA m. Mary C. Phlegar b. 1852 in Floyd Co., VA d. Jan. 28, 1877 in VA. The name "Madison" seems to be a popular name in the Jones family. Do you know where it originated? I can't seem to make a conneciton with your family, but maybe you can make one with mine. Martha

When I was studying early American history there were questions raised about wether or not he left. The Mayflower site states that no one knows if he left descendents behind or not. There are Joneses who are Mayflower descendents but not through the paternal side. Also, there were other ships that arrived her soon after the Mayflower. One came in 1621 with new immigrants. They would have had to inter married with Mayflower people. In breeding was a serious problem in the 1st century of America. No doubt at one point most of the people living here would have been Mayflower descendents even though half their ancestors came later. Here's a link to a page about Christopher Jones of the Mayflower. Actually he was the master and part-owner of the boat. However, it appears that he did not stay in the 'colonies' but returned to Europe and died in England in 1622. So it seems like the Leander Jones who was a Mayflower descendant wasn't a descendant of Christopher Jones. http://www.plimoth.org/Library/mayflcre.htm I don't see any other Joneses on passenger list. Margie, Thanks so much for your reply. I think your Hannah Jones is a different lady. Mine (I found out today) was born about 1798. She married in 1815, so when she died, she would have been Hannah Sherman. Thanks again. Maybe a common story, but the truth is that every family in America started with a few original immigrants/families from somewhere - a shipload of them didn't just show up on the "SS Jones" one day - ...just a question of figuring out exactly who these earliest settlers were is the challenge, is it not?... -----Original Message----- From: Brenda Overstreet [mailto:stonephoenix@earthlink.net] Sent: Sunday, January 05, 2003 4:16 PM To: JONES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [Jones] The Early Jones' in America --- Paul Ogle <paul@ogle.net> wrote: > I have heard that the Jones line started with 3 > individual immigrants. > Does anyone have a history of the very early Jones' > in America? > This is highly improbably in any surname and even more unlikely with Jones, the most common surname in Wales.
