Eirik, I found Newt and Corda Vernon in the 1920 and 1930 Census Images on Ancestry.com for Leclede Co., MO. In the 1920 census it states her father and mother were born KY. In the 1930 census it states TN. You might check in those areas. Newt Vernon is not in my Vernon line but I will ask if anyone is related on the Vernon website I belong to. William J. Jones does show up in the MO CW Unit you mentioned. http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm You might want to contact the National Archives or the state of MO for William's CW records or pension file. At www.nara.com you can find the form number you need to order and fill out to send to the National Archives. I did that for my 3rd g gfr who served in the 23 MO Vol. Inf. Happy hunting! Hello. I saw your posting to the Jones list, and had to respond out of curiousity. I am reseaching Jones in Oklahoma. I don't know where they came from before that, and I know very little on them. I had wondered if they had at least passed through Missouri on their way to Oklahoma, but it was only an educated guess. But you mentioned Laclede Co, Missouri, of all places, and especially Lebanon. My Jones, specifically Nellie Belle Jones, daughter of Anna, married a Marion Walker Detherage. I have much more info on the Detherages. Marion and Anna's children were born in Laclede County, Missouri, near Lebanon. I know this through family histories in pictures and in letters. That's why I believe my Jones were from Laclede Co, MO, or there about. I don't know Anna's maiden name, or her husband's name. There is one other Jones in the photos, an Etta Jones. I think that her married name is Darnell. Judging by the birth dates and birth places, it looks like my Detherages and Jones moved to Oklahoma after 1908. I do have more on the descendants, and on the Detherage line. It sounds like we have Joneses of the same line somewhere. I would be more than happy to share what I have. Anna Jones is one of my brick walls. Melissa
Keziah Jones married Samuel Whitaker She was born somewhere in PA approx 1802. She died in Story County, Iowa Nov 26, 1876 I've been working on my genealogy for 30+ years now, and I've never gotten any further than what you see above. I do want to find info on her. If you have anything close, let me know. By the way, I don't think she is buried in Story Co. Polk co, I believe. Louann
I am the great grandson of Corda Vernon who lived for many years in Lebanon, Laclede Co. Mo. She married Newt Vernon on Jan. 11, 1903. I knew her in the years just before her death on Sept. 15, 1979. She was born Cordelia Jones on Aug. 10, 1884, daughter of "Jasper" and Mary Jones. She grew up in the Blackfoot Community near Lebanon. The names of her parents came to me from a "Lebanon Daily Record" article from 8/15/1979. Only I can't find anything on a Jasper Jones!!! I have found a record on the LDS website where her parents show up as William J. Jones and Mary Scott. They seemed to be from Dallas Co. Mo. A William J. Jones is listed in the 8th MO Cav. Co. I, Union, as I have been told he was a vet of the Civil War. I am daunted by approaching a surname like JONES, especially when I have a brickwall like this. Can anyone help me?
HI I am having the same problem finding anything out about my William Jones, who was living in downtown St. Louis in the late 1800's, he was considerably older then my gg grandmother, (his wife) so I wonder if he was married before.
