    1. [Jones] Samantha Elizabeth Gammon Johnson Hicks Jones
    2. Christina Powers
    3. I am the g-gdaughter of Samantha Elizabeth GAMMON, JOHNSON, HICKS, JONES. Yes, she married 3 times. Family stories always said that at the last WHITTINGTON/HICKS Family reunion in which she attended—approximately 1938—held at her daughter ’s home (Zora Ethel HICKS WHITTINGTON my g-mother). Family stories attributed her to saying that she no longer wanted to be called Grandma HICKS—she wanted to be called Grandma JONES. Searching censuses I finally located the elusive Mr. Jones in the 1920 census. The family is listed in the 1920 US Federal Census, Franklin County, Tyrone Township, ED43, Page 181A, line 15, house/residence #4 Of Section 30. Mr. Jones and Samantha Gammon Johnson Hicks were married between the 1910 and 1920 census. 1. [Jones] Jones in Laclede County, Missouri
    2. Melissa Kellstadt
    3. Hello, Mark and list. I am struggling with my Jones, but I will give you what I have. Anna Jones (maiden name unknown) born estimated 1862, place unknown, husband unknown. Her children: possibly Etta (Darnell) Jones, surviving in the 1950ish time. Nellie Belle (Detherage) Jones b. Nov. 7, 1882 d. Aug. 13, 1964 (in Oklahoma?) Nellie Belle married Marion Walker Detherage Feb. 1, 1903, presumably in Laclede Co., MO. Marion was born May 18, 1887 in Laclede Co., MO. Their children: Violet Etta (Ballinger) Detherage b. Jan 25, 1904 near Lebanon, Laclede Co., MO d. Nov. 25, 1997 Tulsa Co., OK Florence Elma (Ford) Detherage b. Dec. 1, 1905 d. Aug. 13, 1964 Aug. 13, 1964 May Detherage (never married) b. July 5, 1908 near Lebanon, Laclede Co., MO d. May 10, 1983 San Angleo, Tx. bur. in Muskogee, OK. I do know that Violet returned to Lebanon, Mo in the late 50's or early 60's with her family. They also documented in photos and notes the place where Marion Detherage's father fought in a battle of the Civil War near Lebanon. I don't know where the Jones came from, but they may have followed the same migratory pattern as the Detherages. They came from North Carolina, to Kentucky, and then to Missouri and Okalhoma. So far, it's the same for the Jones. Melissa

    1. [Jones] The JONESes
    2. evans-gunther
    3. Dear Listers, I have, at least, four JONES families on my family tree. Two of them I only discovered in detail last year. I am now looking to expand this information. My grandmother Sarah Ellen JONES (married, aged 20, to Idwal Howell GUNTHER in 1902) was the daughter of Benjamin and Abigail JONES. Her brothers and sisters in 1891 were: Lucy Ann (16), Margaret Ann (12), John Arthur (7), Charles (5) and Edith (2). At that time Benjamin was aged 40 and Abigail said to age 46 (but likely a mistake) and they lived at 9 Victoria Square, Holywell, Flintshire, UK. Benjamin was the son of John and Lucy JONES and in 1861 the family in Brynford Street, Holywell. It also consisted of John junior (6) and Mary Jane (3). By 1871 Benjamin had married Abigail JONES. Benjamin was baptisted October 27th 1850. Abigail was baptised on August 26th 1848 and was the daughter of Zachariah and Ann JONES. Zachariah was baptised on 11th October 1795, the son of Griffith and Elizabeth JONES. In 1861 Zachariah (66) and Ann (37) lived at Castle Hill, Holywell. The children included Elizabeth (17), Sarah E. (16), Griffith (14), Abigail (12), Abednigo (11), Margaret Ann (9), Alice Maria (7), Agnes (5) and John (18 months). Of Benjamin and Lucy's children two married DYSONS, who were also brother and sister: John Arthur married Sarah Catherine DYSON and Edith married John DYSON. I would be interested to hear from anyone who is connected with these JONES families. Best wishes from Japan, Charles

I have some info on this family. A family member Ivor JONES of Hillsboro did much work on this line. While my husband knew him. I only contacted him via phone abt a yr before he passed away. He sent me some great info along with a man from the Dyfed area in Wales. So if anyone feels they know of these people or their descendants feel free to shout. I know BJ41 Mary (JONES) Davis/John S. Davis relocated to Madison Co IN and she married in 1850 so I will have to search their for further info on her line. I have some info on the others and their lines and one name that might be of interest in the Avarona KS area is BJ43 John D.W. JONES. his first wife was Mary GRIFFITHS a sister to BJ46 Evan D.'s first wife. Their father was Griffiths/Elizabeth (Davis)GRIFFITH. I know some of his family is in the Kansas City KS area. Hope to find some of you. I have some of Evan D. located throughout the country. ~pat(entwistle/gethen/hershberger) griffiths/jones~

John GRIFFITHS b. 1799 Wales d. 8 Oct 1861 Jackson Co OH buried with Elizabeth J1: Robert J. GRIFFITHS b. 25 Sep 1823 Wales d. 12 Aug 1854 (?IN) J2: David J. GRIFFITHS b. 20 Jul 1844 Oak Hill Jackson Co OH d. 3 Dec 1859 Jackson Co OH J9: Sarah Ann (GRIFFITHS) WILLIAMS b. 1 Feb 1847 I have info on the first three children and some of the others. I have info on J1's descendants, but believed he died in IN at an unknown location to date. Thomas J. JONES is possibly the brother or cousin to Elizabeth JONES. He was b. Wales abt 1808 if his age is correct on the 1880 US census for Jackson Co OH. Here he was living on the GRIFFITHS' farm with Elizabeth's grandson, Samuel Robert GRIFFITHS' and his family Now Thomas J. had two sons that I can verify. Robert J. JONES & John L. JONES Robert J. JONES had a son Robert J. JONES Jr. Both father and son went to Denver CO. I have a photo of Robert J. Jones Jr in the doorway of the Denver Post blding. I have sent this to the Denver site for anyone to see. I don't believe either men ever returned to OH, but am not certain on this. I know that when he photo was taken the price of coal was $3.75-$3.95 a ton. This may get me closer to a yr to search. John L. JONES served in the civil war and I have a 2 photos of him in his uniform one is signed. John L. went on to be a prosecuting attorney for Jackson Co OH. He may have been married briefly after the civil war. This is still also a rumor. I am told he is buried in Jackson Co. There may have been an Elizabeth JONES as a sister to these two men. It is believed a descendant of hers contacted a distant relative in CA a while bk. So if these sound familiar to anyone feel free to shout. I have a 4 cd set of compiled info on the family of John/Elizabeth (nee JONES) GRIFFITHS so far and would like to branch out past Elizabeth. I believe I have the marriage record for John/Elizabeth from Ruabon parish along with bapt records for their first three children. I believe Thomas J. JONES died abt 1892 in Jackson Co OH. I know his son John L. had a drinking problem and had to be cleaned up to attend his father's funeral. I have found several articles pertaining to John on films at the OHS in Col OH. Here's to hoping I find more relatives. ~pat (entwistle/gethen/hershberger) griffiths/jones~

    2. Hi Melissa, Thank you for your interesting reply. There are a number of different Jones families in Laclede Co., I thought mine were from a particular branch but now I don't think so. I don't know the names of my Corda's siblings. My own great grandmother who I even got to know when I was a kid back in 1977! She could have answered all of my questions. Oh well... I am very interested in your Anna Jones and would be glad to see anything you have on her and family. As I delve into Jones history I will keep an eye out for your Anna. Thanks!!! -Mark

    1. Re: [Jones] Laclede Co. MO Corda Jones...HELP!
    2. A bit more...I am groggy this morning. I do not have a marriage date for William J. Jones. I do not that his wife was named Mary, I have a small envelope with a clipping of Corda's hair signed by her mother as MARY. Mary is also mentioned in the article. That is why I accepted the name Mary Scott as a possibility when I found it on the LDS website. No marriage date though. No siblings were listed either. The maddening thing is, when I was a kid back in 1977 I had a whole Summer to visit with Corda. I didn't ask her any family questions!!! She could have told me evrything and more. She was a really great character and I still miss her. -Mark

    1. Re: [Jones] Laclede Co. MO Corda Jones...HELP!
    2. Hi Joe, I am not absolutely sure about the name JASPER, the reference is from a newspaper article, which I will post on this list. It has a lot of mistakes in it, which gives me doubt. I was thinking that William J. Jones might be William Jasper Jones. I am interested in your William Jefferson Jones, did he have a daughter who married Corda or Cordelia? She was born in 1884 I think in Dallas Co. Family tradition says that Corda's father fought for the Union. Thank you for your reply! -Mark

    1. [Jones] Taylor Jones (b 1775); Son of Taylor Jones, Sr. and Sarah Bonney
    2. Paul Ogle
    3. I am looking for anyone who might have additional information on a TAYLOR JONES b. about 1775/1777 -probably in Currituck County NC. He was the son of Taylor Jones (1732-1780) and Sarah Bonney (b. abt 1747) of Currituck County NC who were m. 1/15/1760. He reportedly moved to Hickman County, TN possibly in about 1817, before settling in Williamson County, TN. Taylor's grandparents were Cornelius Jones (1705-1714) and Elizabeth Taylor (b abt 1709/1715). This Taylor Jones may<??> possibly be the same person as a LEWIS TAYLOR JONES (b. abt 1777 and d. 1858 in Williamson County, TN). Lewis Taylor Jones had a second wife, Martha G. VOWELL (originally married to a John Vowell of TN). I do not know her maiden name (Probably a "G___"). The name of his first wife is uncertain, though it could have been a Martha PAYNE(s). Taylor Jones is believed to have served 84 months in the Revolutionary War. I would appreciate any information on this family or tips on how to get any additional data on his revolutionary service (I have already contacted the DAR). Also, any information on a JONES/PAYNE connection in NC/TN would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Paul
