Perhaps the original question was either misstated or asked without full knowledge of armory. Either way it really doesn't matter. The stated reason for wanting a Jones family crest was to adorn a book. Technically, the American author could choose any Jones crest for that job, since English armory carries no significance in the United States other than fancy decoration. But its decoration that would make the front of a publication look really attractive. Larry Jones I'm in the business of beating the odds.
I have been told the "Family Crest", "Coat of Arms" were only of one person, not a Family. And in order for someone back then to get a Crest or Coat of Arms, they had to apply for it, and it was only owned by that one person. It's not really considered part of the Family. So there would be no Jones Family Crest or whatever the surname. It would only be... "Charles Jones Crest", or "Alfred Jones Coat of Arms". Or whatever the Surname might have been. That if you really want the Crest or Coat of Arms researched, it isn't worth the research unless your doing it for fun. And if your going to pay someone to do the research for you, unless they charge a minimum of $300.00 or more, then the research won't be worth it. I have a few Coat of Arms in my family line and I thought about researching them, So I ask around to other Genealogist that research them and this is what they told me. So I guess you should judge for yourself of weather or not you really want to trace the family and see if there were any "Family Crest", "Coat of Arms" through out your line. Good Luck Hunting. Hello list, Last month I posted a message concerning a JONES Coat of Arms or a JONES Family Crest. Thanks to all who replied to my posting. Recently someone was tracing the name BENTON JONES. In my search for Joneses, I happened to find a Benton Jones in the 1800 census from Chowan County, NC.... hope this helps you. Chowan County has a lot of resources.
Still seeking information on W.R. Jones(William Ruff) born 1857 in Winchester,TN. Married Mary Commer(Comer) in 1877 in Winchester, TN.This family left Tennessee in late 1800 for Arkansas and east Texas. Anyone that might have a connection, please let me know. Susan Keener

Dear JONES Listers, Sorry to give you aggreviation but some folk get this message to download others don't. I have tried various settings and while some suit some folk, others don't like them. It may be that this is an automatic message that comes from the provider. I have complained to them and they say that it shouldn't happen but it continues to do so. They, however, told that it if such a message appears just click off or cancel and it should disappear. Of course, if you want a copy of the Japanese written language system, presumably Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana, free - then download. Sorry to cause any problems. I guess it is a burden I have to carry living in Japan, but lots of other thing out weight this. Best wishes from Tanumamachi, Tochigiken, Japan, on a bitterly cold morning, Charles
Dear Listers, Here are some of my Jones: Below are the children of Thomas and Mary JONES. All were baptised at St. Johns Old Haymarket, Liverpool, between 1822 and 1825. Margaret JONES, Sarah JONES, Evan Lloyd JONES, Edward JONES, Idwel Howell JONES, John Tudor JONES and Thomas Gywnedd JONES. Of these I only know about Idwel Howell. He moved to Wales, first Flintshire and then Denbigh, where he was still trading in the 1880s. Idwel H. was married to Margaret (-?-) and they had one son, also Idwal Howell JONES. Two other JONES families from Holywell, Flintshire, UK, are not directly related to the Idwal Howell JONES, as far as I know. Abigail JONES married Benjamin JONES, they had a daughter Sarah Ellen JONES who married Idwal Howell GUNTHER, son of Charles GUNTHER and Mary GITTINS. Mary's sister Isabella married Idwal Howell JONES junior son of the above Idwel Howell JONES senior. I don't think any of the JONES family have any representatives in the States or Canada but you never know. Certainly there are a couple of interesting names and with middle names at that. Any bells ringing anywhere? My links are with Idwal Howell GUNTHER, son of Charles GUNTHER of Swiss nationality, and Sarah Ellen JONES. One of their sons was Charles Edward GUNTHER and I am his son. Best wishes, Charles
Kathi, I'm not sure if anyone has responded to your request yet........It is only a small "Menu" or "Prompt" that appears in the center of the screen. It says: To view this message please download the program (japanese,etc.). It's not a bother if it's just from someone from overseas, etc. But now it seems to be happening nearly every post. All everyone needs to do is hit cancel, most of our computer programs has a translater. Don't stop sending your messages Charles.......You could still be our kin, Right? Let us all stop replying to messages until this goes away. It could be that the prompt for the character set/font original message being replied-to rather than creating an entirely new message is a problem. So just type in JONES-L@rootsweb.com in the next few messages you sent to the List, rather than hitting the "Reply" button. Kathi __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I can assure you 100% that there is no geeky guy sitting in a dark room at Rootsweb pushing buttons to send mail. All Rootsweb mail is processed by the list/mail software--there is no person sitting there pushing buttons and sending a translator or asking that you download a font. It is more likely that the people who are receiving the Japanese translator message are using OE. If a message is sent in certain character sets OE users get this message about having to download special fonts to read the message. So all I can suggest is to: change defaults in OE for those who are using it and/or hit the delete key and ignore. Kathi, I did not get the message either and I suspect it is because I am working with an XP operating system and have set up Japanese as an alternative language in my International settings. It has been awhile since I worked with another OS but other users can check your options under TOOLS in your E-mail program. Look under the send and read TABS.
This one from Pat Hammons had it also. Don't you think it has to be some button has been pushed when the messages are coming through the Jones L system rather than from the people?????
