Ed, This falls under the heading of genealogical interest to everyone. I have a similar experience with public access to incorrect data on my family which someone included in a family tree and posted on both Ancestry.com and Rootsweb.com websites. What makes it frustrating is that it is as close as my grandfather. The person who posted the incorrect information picked the info up from a query I posted on a rootsweb message board many years ago while I was still in a major "discovery" phase, then published it as "factual" data. Their on line family tree is for everyone in a particular County, not a particular family. I contacted the owner of the database, who wouldn't change it. I contacted both ancestry.com and rootsweb.com, they will do nothing either, even knowing they are hosting incorrect data. Their help desk wrote to me: "Each submitter takes responsibility for their own file and cannot be compelled to provide you with sources, or to correct errors." I ended up posting to the same surname message board, referencing my original post: "I have discovered that some of the material that I posted in my above enquiry post is far from correct. While I believed it to be the truth at the time that I posted it, research has a funny way of plodding on and proving a researcher wrong. To this extent, various portions of my above post are not only incorrect, but I have discovered them to be bald faced lies. Discovery is such a beautiful thing. I do apologize to anyone that I have inconvenienced with the material in my above post. Family members are requested to write me directly for corrected data." It was all I could do. Maybe one day someone with enough time and money will challenge the policies that prevent us from correcting our own family data which appear on line. I shudder to think of future generations trying to untangle the mass of incorrect family data which is currently being offered on the internet. In the meantime, this was a valuable lesson to me about posting genealogical info publicly, you never know who will pick your work up and it's important to protect your family for future generations. Craven Jones was born around 1810, (according to census records) in Lenoir NC. He married Piety Moore, born around 1811. They are listed on the 1850 census in Maury County, TN, 1860 in Marshall County, TN, 1880 census I've found them back in Maury County, TN. Thank you! Lisa

I am looking for information on Thomas Jones who married Elizabeth M. Walton. He was born in Kentucky. Any information appreciated. Thanks, Kay
> > Sorry but I do disagree with you. I don't think that > all Jones families started out in the NE. My late wife's Jones ancestor, John Jones, came to Charleston, South Carolina from Wales on the ship "Earl of Hillsboro" which departed from Belfast, Ireland in 1767. Bill Cherepy Grayson, GA
Looking at JONES history, I see that a Samuel Jones b. 1742 Bucks Co., PA served in the Am Rev. Records show that he received 4,000 acres by Bounty Land Warrant in Ohio, and it's believed that he received another 4,000 in Kentucky. Samuel and his wife Leah moved to Augusta County, VA, part of which is now Greene and Washington Counties, PA. where they lived out their lives. So, if their children (who were born in PA, MD, and VA) went to Ohio and Kentucky to claim this land we can see how our JONES lines can be together and at the same time apart. What a challenge. Julie
Ok-- here's a new question. Am searching for Ned Jones 1835 Will in Buck Horn Creek NC and any Snavely family in the same counties-- Chatham, Wake or Cumberland counties--or maybe Moore. Have tried to find this by asking the Cumberland L. list They were really nice but didn't have access to the other counties. Just wondered if different researchers on this list have run across such a will. Thanks. Karli Dye.
Edwin, if you get any response from Sharon Terca please let me know. I have been trying for a while to contact here and have never received a response. She is the only person I've ever seen to have anything information or even heard about my great great grandfather, Wyatt Hawkins Jones and I'd love to find out where she got her information and if she is related to me and how. Thanks, Sandra Coleman ssbr2day@aol.com
Does any one know of link between Jones family and Randolph of Virginia in early 1700s. with documents or where I can find them' Janet
Hello, It may not be proper to reply in this way to the list but I have a problem with this established line of Jones which is listed on the website address below. My problem being: My g grandparents are included in this database. I have contacted persons regarding this but it has not been corrected or changed. James JONES & his wife Rebecca Kay COLEMAN posted there were my g grandparents. The data lists the parents for my James JONES as being born about 1801 & it lists his parents as being John Hawkins JONES b. about 1787 & married to Mildred R. MITCHELL 1836 in Bourbon County, Ky. I doubt my James was born 35 years before his parents were married plus my James & Rebecca Kay COLEMAN were married 12/15/1819 being about 17 years before James parents would have been married. I have the marriage bond for James JONES & Rebecca COLEMAN. It may not be proper practice to send a reply to a posting to the list but I'm doing so to inform those on the list that much of the data posted there regarding my great grandparents James JONES & wife Rebecca Kay COLEMAN is not correct. I'm quite sure my James JONES is not a member of the John Hawkins JONES Family. Is there a place to add a Postum note to that site? You can leave your information in that manner, so that other readers will get the correction. On Sat, 15 Feb 2003 11:13:29 -0600 "Edwin L. Charles, did any of your Joneses end up in NC? I have seen Rev. Richard Jones in my searching.I suspect my Joneses did come from VA but still looking..... they ended up in Perquimans/Chowan/Edgecombe/Chatham, NC. Nancy
Chris, I agree. I don't think the solution is to "divide" the list by the Mason-Dixon line. It would help if people would make a specific heading for their query; ie, "JOHN JONES in PA","JONES-SMITH in NY", etc.;I know that when I see a heading "JONES in NC" I read that one first. Nancy
Julie: Sorry but I do disagree with you. I don't think that all Jones families started out in the NE. For one thing, some Joneses were here in the 1600's and the land-grants from the Revolutionary War didn't take place until significantly later. Mine were in PA in about 1700, then into MD and then to ETN. I've never agree with the theory that all people of one particular surname are connected. I do think you'll find migration patterns from one area to another where entire groups of connected families moved in a clump. For example, my Dad is from a tiny little town in ETN and while researching I've found a large number of the early settlers in that town were originally from MD. Looks like one family moved then wrote 'home' and told everyone to come on down. A pretty typical migration was South then West (where there was more land).
