Ron, JOHN and MARGARET (BENSON) JONES moved to Edgefield County, SC, about 1778. They died there in 1796 and 1794, respectively, and were buried in the "old broomsage field" on their plantation, about 7 miles out on Newberry-Edgefield turnpike. In the 1840's, the turnpike was relocated to straighten it, and the new road passed directly over the graves. There were evidently no headstones and the exact location of the graves is unknown. They had 12 children: Jane (1772-1777); William (1774-1777); David (1778-abt 1780); William (1780-1791); Sarah (1782-1783); David (1783-1845); Jonathan (1783-1833); Elisha (1786-1840); Elijah (1786-1817) (my ancestor); Benson (1788-1834); Susannah (1789-1859); and John, Jr. (1792-1842). Jonathan married Epsey Dilla Jones in Jones County, Georgia; he died in Bibb Co., Alabama; Elisha married (1) Susannah Hollingsworth in Clinton County, Ohio, then (2) Rebecca Pearson probably in Miami County, Ohio; Elijah married Anne Miles in Newberry County, South Carolina; Benson married Priscilla O'Neall; he died in Greene County, Indiana; Susannah married Samuel Hughen; she died in Warren County, Illinois. If you think any of these are connected to you, let me know. Gayle
Jerry, Does your The Jones Genealogist cover SC, GA, and AR? Lee Anne
Linda, thanks for checking; at least I can rule out another source. Gayle
Jerry, I too would be interested in receiving The Jones Genealogist. Please let me know what your fee would be to receive copies of all of the old issues, especially the ones relating to the Jones migration to this country from UK.
