    1. Re: [Jones] Col. John Jones - England to Edward Jones - VA
    2. A detailed description of John Jones, "the regicide" is given in a publication called The Dictionary of Welsh Biography Down to 1940. It is published by B.H. Blackwell, LTD., Broad Street, Oxford, 1959. pp. 473 - 475. On page 474 it states that a John Jones, d. c. 1717, "...was the regicide's only surviving child,...". This would make an Edward Jones to VA connection to seem unlikely? You may wish to check this reference as it gives detailed historical documents to help clarify the family of this John Jones. A copy of this publication abstracted for the JONES surname is available in The Joseph Wheeler Jones Memorial Library, Danville, KY. More information about this library can be found at the web site: thegoldenlionbb.com. Hope this is helpful. Jerry Jones, The Jones Genealogist.

    3. This Jones family seemed to live and die quietly. Most of my information is from a cousin of my mother's who would be in her 90's if she were alive. I have been searching for several years and can find no proof of dates and places other than that which is found in Van Buren County, Iowa. Does this sound familiar to anyone? This is a lot of information, but I thought it might help someone find something they can document. Again I have little or no documentation for most of this information, just word of mouth and information from my mother's cousin. Jones First Generation 1. 1. Col. John Jones - England to Edward Jones - VA
    2. Sue J
    3. Hi List, I have a small problem. I am hoping that there are not two families with same name and about same age in same area of VA during colonial times. I will give you first the info I found that someone else researched. Col. John JONES (regicide) died 1660 in England he was executed. The person has his wife as Jane CROMWELL but documents show it as Catherine CROMWELL, sister of Oliver CROMWELL. Col. Jones had a son named Edward who came to VA, Isle of Wright, with is siblings and step-mother (Cromwell). This Edward marred a Jane HARRIS. This Edward had a son named Edward JONES who married Abigail SUGAN. Now for my records. I can verify the first part about a Col. John JONES and that his parents were Thomas Johns ap JONES and Ellen WYNN of Wales and that he married a Catherine CROMWELL, sister of Oliver CROMWELL. I have not found a link to this line. I am missing any info on an Edward JONES who married a Jane HARRIS. Maybe the first wife????? I have a will for William EXUM who mentions a daughter, Deborah JONES. I also have the will for Edward JONES who mentions his wife DEBORAH. If Jane is indeed the first wife and Deborah the second wife, I wonder if I have assigned to children of this Edward to the wrong wife. This Edward who married Deborah EXUM had a child named Edward. This Edward married Abigail SUGAN. Is there anyone who can help straighten out this mess or are there indeed two separate families and my Edward, married to Deborah EXUM is NOT related to Col. John JONES, regicide. This one generation with either HARRIS or EXUM is really getting to me. I do not drive so getting to any family history center, etc. is impossible. Thanks for any leads in straightening out this confusion. Sue in Florida [email protected]
