Lee: Have you posted this message on the Davis list? I belong to the Davis list because of my father's maternal line. I have not seen this post on any of the Davis lists. I have been standing in front of this wall for some time now. I have called in reinforcements to help me break it down, but it has been a fruitless siege so far. Beyond this wall lie the parents and ancestors of Humphrey Jones, born about 1805 in Martin County, NC. If there are any siblings, they too are hiding behind this wall. Many of the pre-1850 records for Martin County were destroyed, and these burned records were used to reinforce this wall. I desperately need help in skirting around the outer perimeters of the wall since going over the top is a useless attempt. I do not believe that even a Sherman tank could break through this wall. All help, no matter how small and seemingly insignificant is graciously and gratefully appreciated. I would enjoy the Demolition Derby, but unfortunately, I neither have the transportation nor funds to support a trip. It would be difficult for me to express how much I truly would enjoy a month visiting Jerry and reveling in the information he has collected over the years. Thanks in advance for any help offered. Mariam M. JONES born abt 1843 prob born in Clark Co, KY. She married Simson Greenup OSBORN 19 Mar 1865 in Clark Co, KY. Mariam died 2 July 1898 in Clark Co, KY. I believe her father to be Hiram JONES but have no proff and have not found anyone working on the same line. Any help? Rod Carpenter
My brick wall is Evan Jones of Lincoln Co., Ky. He was born probably around 1758 & died 1824 Lincoln Co., Ky. His wife's name was Miriam, but her last name is unknown. He had 2 sons named Joshua born 1786 & Abraham birth date unknown. I descend from his daughter named Jane born 1784. The 1850 census record for her states she was born in Ky. so I'm guessing it might have been Va. at the time she was born. There are few clues to follow. Witnesses for his will filed in Lincoln Co., Ky. were Samuel Crutcher, Major M. Johnson, who married a daughter of John Jones & Michael Jones. The first land purchase I have for him in Lincoln Co., Ky. is 1796 on the Green River. Any ideas will be most appreciated. Bernadine Teague
I too am at a brick wall on Jones. I am searching for a white male John Bennett Jones who was born abt 1852. I know he died around 1936 in Tiptonville, Tennessee but could find no death certificate on him. I do know that he was married to a #1 Salina Barrett and had 3 children, and then to a Mary Arnold Jones and had 3 children. I also know he had brothers: Hugh, Joe, Jim, and 2 sisters Betty and Martha. I knew one of his brothers moved to a Weeleka, OK and I have not been able to find any info on him. Karen

Jerry, I would like to join your derby. I have hit a Brick Wall for my book I hope to Publish in a few months "Pioneer Ancesters ofEasternTennWestern North Carolina and South Western Virginia". My Great grandfather, James Henry Jones was born in Sullivan County, TN in 1804, Descendant of a young 15 year old boy from stories that he was a storaway on a ship from Wales to Pa. I have run into Joneses with like stories. Would you know anything about this. I think my Joneses were from VA and James Henrly Jones had a brother William born in Sullivan County 1808, David born 1810 or 1800 Possible John 1802, Daniel 180? Nothing for sure. Their father was David, John, William, or Henry born around1780 in South west Va. I don't believe he was the Storaway Which make me think that his father was the boy that worked as an indenture servant and married a young girl in Pa around the Mid 1700's. Can any help me with my PUZZLE. Jimmy
I have two questions and some background information. Question 1: Does anyone know who the parents of Elizabeth Davis were? Elizabeth was born about 1796 in SC. She married John A. Bates, who was born about 1794 in The Old Dominion (VA). By 1818 or sooner, John A. Bates was in GA. He married 1st wife Elizabeth Alford in 1818 (marriage license). She died, and he remarried to Elizabeth Davis about 1824 (I found no marriage license found, maybe due to fires during the Civil War).
