    3. HI Charlie, There are probably some of the JONES and BURCH descendants still there. I haven't found any yet. We do know some went to CA. Have been in touch with them. The JONES scattered almost everywhere from Gilmer Co., GA. I moved back to Coffee Co., TN, from FL., to be near my 4 ch and 5 g-ch.---4 boys and 1 girl. Enjoy your retirement and thanks for taking the time to answer. 1. Richard and Amelia Hyatt Jones/late 1700s/VA to OH?
    2. Janet Currie
    3. Hi! My brick wall continues to be Richard and Amelia Hyatt Jones. At this time, we believe Richard was born abt 1763; Amelia Hyatt born abt 1775 in MD. Richard and Amelia probably married in Ohio or Brooke Co VA; may have been in 1810 census of that area. We suspect that Richard and Amelia migrated into OH. . . possibly Muskingum or Morgan Counties. Family names used for thier children might be Hezekiah, Hyatt, Esther, or Hester. Of particlular interest is a family in Blue Rock township of Muskingum Co OH for the 1850 census which has a Hezekiah H Jones age 3, son of James Jones. Any ideas on how to track this family would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Janet Currie

    1. DEMOLITION DERBY IDEAS
    2. Richard Jones
    3. Jerry, The JONES DEMOLITION DERBY is really a terrific idea however, the logistics and format could really turn out to be a massive undertaking. As an optimum the format/display of the information exchanged would be best served in some sort of formatted data base to permit a uniform display of the exchanged information, i.e location, birth-death dates, spouse children etc.,. Also merging of historical comments such as those you have been providing would be of great interest. Perhaps this could be best accomplished if the participants were provided a format for which the information could be submitted or exchanged. Although this may be only Labor Day weekend effort, I would hope that at least a web page containing the submitted data be available for display, search and retrieval. Also this data base scenario should be so constructed to permit future submission of additional JONES family data as time goes on. I'm sure that you appreciate the fact that the more data you have to work with the better the chances to tear down that proverbial "brick wall". As a suggestion, maybe the folks at ROOTSWEB.COM could provide some software assistance for this. Also if volunteers are needed I am available to provide any help for which I'm qualified. 1. JONES BRICKWALL UPDATE
    2. Hello All. There continues to be a tremendous response to the brick wall derby idea. I have had a chance to review the listings and present the following summary. There has been 46 JONES BRICK WALLS listed. The dates range from 1749 - 1889. There is a clustering of dates around certain primary historical events, i.e., Opening of the Shenandoah Valley 1749 - 1760 Close of our Rev. War Period 1780 - 1793 Western Expansion and purchase of Louisiana Territory 1803 - 1814 Settlement of the Middle Border States 1822 - 1845 There were 21 states listed. The states listed in order of frequency: NC, KY, VA, TN, IL, GA, AR, SC, NY, MD, IN, MS, OH, AL, FL, LA, NE, IA, MO, WVA, and WY. It might be helpful to form "cluster groups" around each of the historical periods. This might give those who are stuck, a new way to think about and organize your family information. For example, in several cases, a JONES family moved from NC, TN, MS , etc., and might fit a migration route better than a fixed geographic location. In many cases, the territory or state was originally part of another state or territory and understanding these "change points" can often help move around a brick wall.

    3. This is all of the Jones history background I can muster at this time. I can assure your my maternal side is loaded, found, full of historical people. Being a Jones, it has been tough, some call it a brick wall. It's a history yet uncovered with me and well, a brick wall also. Like many did not ask questions of my grand's, wish I had as Dad was a widowed husband at my just 13 years of age. So mom's and dad's, talk to your children, let them know their history. Dad was a 5 ft 8 man SELF TAUGHT, yes, he was not to be crossed . He was a neat man, dressed the best on Saturdays, had his shot of rye but raised we 5 Jones kids, taught respect for all. As a Jones kid of 14 had his own horse and pistol, he fired a 45 pistol with the US Army Champ Joe Bender at Ft Benning Ga when I was stationed there as a paratrooper. My grandfather, Richard C. Jones Sr was born in NC and moved with the McHenry family down into Murfreesboro, Tn, When ?? He drew a military pension in 1833 for three years and was 65 yrs old at this date. I have no other history of him at this time. He had a son Richard C Jones Jr b 1821, Murfreesboro, Tn and this is his out lay, He married # 1, Theodosia Jarrett in 1840, a daughter Frances A was born in 1845. He married # 2, Mary Cock Dec 18, 1849. He married Mary Jane McHenry, ( MY grandmother) in 1852, children from this marriage were, John S Jones b 1853, William Alvin Jones b 1855, (David Madison Jones b 1857 was my dad's father. David Died on horseback in Amory, Ms )when ? his wife Mattie White Jones is buried in Morton, Ms. Dad was William Lee Jones Sr born in 1887 in Dyersburg Tn, dads sister, Mattie Maurin Jones was born in Carthage Mo in 1889. Richard C Jones JR owned a rather large commissary there in Murfreesboro, Tn and was raided by the Union forces, a recoup was done as congress passed a bill for reinstatement for such raids on confederate properties in 18711, what is important in this is , the names of witness's signing for Richard C Jones Jr's behalf in all of this is the following Jones names. The goods taken was in the Amount of $299.00, I have the papers of this entire affair. James Jones ( I have not found WHO these Jones's are but expect relations to RC Jr. Elihue Jones S Jones Jessie Ferrel GT Nelson R. Arbuker. Richard C Jones had a 4th wife, the sister of Mary Jane McHenry, Amanda McHenry was reported married to Richard C Jones Jr in 1871 but as Genealogy goes, Mary Jane's tombstone reads died 1889, I have not found a record of divorce and the headstone reads wife of Richard C Jones. There is a flaw in this some where. Names associated with Jones there were, Crouse, McHenry, I have a few generations of the McHenrys being as I had Grand's in this name. I have a brother William Lee Jones jr born 1920, Vicksburg, Ms, a sister Beatrice Wyona Ransomer b 1922 Vicksburg, Ms, living in Dayton Ohio. A sister Mary Cecil Schmitt b 1930 living in Southaven, Ms and your truly, Theodore David Jones alias TED, b 5 Dec 1927, a military vet as was my brother W L Jr. I wish all of you the very best and I thank the originator of the Brick Wall Derby. sincerely submitted by T D Jones SR Vicksburg, Ms > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. > Version: 7.0.323 / Virus Database: 267.8.11/45 - Release Date: -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 1. Another Brick Wall in NC
    2. Nancy Jones
    3. Here is what I know about my James Jones: He was born about 1780 in the Orange Co NC area. He is said to have been a preacher, probably Baptist. He married Naomi Baker of Orange Co NC, who was born about 1781. If the James Jones in 1810 through 1840 censuses for Orange Co. are my James, then he had TWO wives and 17 children; 10 sons and 7 daughters. The only child we KNOW is Calvin Sneed Baker Jones, 1822-1866, married Martha Moore Perry, lived in Chatham Co NC. Calvin and Martha are my 2xgreat grandparents. James Jones is said to have been a "Jr", son of James Jones Sr. and Sarah Johnson, and believed to have come from VA. A 3rd cousin and I are interested in dynamiting this brick wall. He lives in NC and has access to records, but has found nothing further. I live in Michigan and have access to nothing that isn't online. What happened to those 15 brothers and sisters of Calvin? Did James Jr die or simply move away? Since Alamance was formed from Orange and Chatham in 1849, we have checked the censuses for all 3 counties in 1850 and have no clues. Nancy Jones dotsicle

    2. Ron, I sent you a note last night answering your questions and should have sent it to the list. I was in a hurry and did not use my head. The census I have seen for Bryant W. Thanks for reminding me to list the census I have found him on. Also I do not know when his wife Sarah Breckenridge died but I assume it was in Jackson County. Roberta Summers

Married Pearl Babb - born in Jefferson City, MO about 1893 (died 1922, buried in Kansas City, MO). Children: June Cecelia (born 2-27-1913, Kansas City, MO) and James Byron (born 7-5-1916, Kansas City, MO). Family was found in 1920 census in Maricopa County, Phoenix, AZ. 2. Judy
    3. With all this interest in brick walls I thought I'd share mine. I have Jones on both my parents sides. On my father's side I am searching for the parents of Giles JONES b: Nov. 4, 1813 possibly in OH. d: Nov 6, 1894 in Paris, Edgar Co., IL. He married Lucinda MASTERS May 27, 1834 in Belmont Co., Ohio. In the 1840 census they are in Belmont Co., 1850 they are in Union Township Morgan Co., OH, 1860 in Logan, Hocking Co, OH, 1870 in Paris, Edgar Co, IL where they lived until their death. Buried in the Edgar Co. Cemetery Paris IL. In the 1880 census Giles says his father was born in NY and mother in MD. Her parents were both born VA according to the census. Any help locating his parents or siblings would be greatly appreciated. Now my other JONES brickwall on my maternal line. George W. JONES born ca 1821 in North Carolina married Elizabeth (most likely CEARLEY/KERLEY) in North Carolina. They were in Taylorsville, Alexander Co., NC where my ggrandmother Srerna JONES was born April 5, 1842. Serena changed her name to Mary Irene when she married Barney BURNS in Sangamon Co. IL May 20, 1866. I'm not sure when these Jones's moved out of NC but I believe they were in MO before coming to IL. Any help on this brick wall would also be greatly appreciated. Judy Jones Green
