Again, in case anyone missed my message of this morning. The suggestions made re: forming cluster groups, special naming of messages, etc. are in violtion of Rootsweb policies regarding Lists. They will not be put in place. This should be the end of this .... however, please continue to post your brickwalls ... just remember to give a subject line pertinent to your query. Like: James Jones, b: 1800 VA ... something to let other readers know what the query is about. Jerry, I just read an old family letter, dated 1936, in which the writer mentions that my John Jones, b. 1797, d. 1884 in TN was "no doubt and early settler in Wilson County, TN". Do you have a reference on that? Hello All. It has been exciting to see the response to the suggestion of a brick wall theme. It has certainly flooded the site with flying bricks. I believe it would be helpful to try and "stack" a few of the bricks into a few useful piles, and improve communication of names, dates, locations, etc. Having read through over 150 emails the last several days, please allow me to make some suggestions which may help those on the list sort through their postings. First let me suggest that those who continue to have an interest in the brick wall theme and wish to continue their participation start each subject line with an abbreviation "BW". This would shorten the subject line and immediately identify those with an interest and allow those without an interest to delete the email. Secondly, I would suggest we form cluster groups around the following themes: Cluster Group 1 = Colonial settlement 1607 - 1650 Cluster Group 2 = English Civil War/Expansion 1650 - 1740 Cluster Group 3 = Shenandoah Valley 1740 - 1770 Cluster Group 4 = Rev. War Period 1776 - 1793 Cluster Group 5 = Western Expansion/LA Territory 1800 - 1845 Cluster Group 6 = Civil War Period (US) 1860 - 1880 I would suggest the subject line could then be structured to look like this: BW-C4- JOHN JONES, 1783 SC, TN, MS This would read BW = brick wall interest group C4 = cluster group (I am interested in this time period) Then identify the name of the primary JONES that is your brick wall. This would be followed by a date, then by a "sequence of settlement", starting with birth state to migration, to settlement or death state. This would then help each reader to screen the subject line and decide if this would be of interest. There may certainly be better ways to organize the discussion. Please post your ideas using the same subject line. Thanks, Jerry. The Jones Genealogist.

I wish to state that I am no longer opening e-mails that say simply Jones Brick Wall or any other subject line that gives no information. I realize that this sounds drastic, but I belong to several of these Rootsweb name groups and my time is too limited to open all of this type of e-mail. When I joined the group, I was told how to submit e-mails, andI am sure all of you were given the same instructions. Jones is such a common name that there are many lines from many places and we need some kind of direction as to who, where and when. I am sure that there will be a lot of negative response to this e-mail, but I am also sure that a lot of you will agree with me. Rita F Silva [email protected] Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.

While Jerry is trying to be very helpful to people researching specific time and locations, Rootsweb policy demands that this list be open to all Jones research all the time and that no 'cluster' groups be formed within this List. It is to be open and not restricted nor limited nor anyone made to feel that they cannot or should not post a message about their Jones ancestors. Please disregard Jerry's post about the structuring of your posts and subject lines. However you should always have a subject line that is appropriate for your specific posting, good queries always include 'Who, What, Where & When' ... that helps to narrow down your search and lets everyone know exactly what you're looking for. Thank you. Kathi Jones-Hudson JONES List Administrator

Dear Nancy, I am interested in your brick wall. I search for Sarah JONES born about 1820. Seems your James Jr. and Sarah Johnson would be the right age for me. Do you know if they had a daughter Sarah JONES born about 1820? My Sarah lived her adult life in the Blue Ridge area of Polk County TN and Fannin County GA. She doesn't have a husband listed 1850 or later. Sarah has children listed on the 1850 census but no husband. Sarah married Mr. Stafford between 1870 and 1880. Does this ring any bells? I have too many emails to go through each day because I am searching several of my ancestor lines and I have a lot of brick walls. I may miss some info at times because if a Subject Line does not contain an ancestor name, estimated date, and location I tend to just delete. At times I can afford to look at other emails but I gloss over very fast. If you want help, if you need help, my suggestion is focus the subject line on name, place, dates or if you start a cluster put at least the dates, places. Subjects such as Jones Brickwall (this is a JONES list for brickwalls), Help With My Jones (we all need help), etc. will tend to turn many people off in my humble opinion. Sharon, I think the dates for my Sarah Johnson Jones don't match for your Sarah. Mine was born sometime around 1750-1760 and married James Jones Sr. I don't believe she was living in 1850. It is James Jones JR who may be living in 1850 but I don't know where. He was in Orange Co NC in 1840 and the only son we can name (Calvin) is in Chatham Co NC in 1850. dotsicle
Hi List, My brick wall is Jonathan Jones born about 1775, in North Carolina I don't know the county he was born in but I believe two of his sons were born in Davidson County. There names were John born 1826 and Henry born 1822. Jonathan married Keziah Smith in N.C. they had several children before moving to Pike Co. Ky . John Jones my great-grandfather married Mary Lions/Lyons on June 15, 1856. On January 4. 1869 he married Malinda Maynard born 1848. She was his second wife. I believe Mary was my great-grandmother because of the age of my grandfather. His name was William Lazarus Jones. most people called him Lace. He ran a general store on Beechfork Wayne Co. W.V. when he married my grandmother Nervesta (Bessie) Ramsey. In the census I have found my grandfather listed William and Lace Jones. Can anyone help me over my brickwall?
