    2. I am looking for an Oris Lane Jones born in about 1940, posssibly in Missouri. Do you have any more information the Oris Jones b. 1902 whom you listed, and/or his siblings and descendants? Thanks. Dear Ancestor: Your tombstone stands among the rest, neglected and alone. The name and the date are chiseled out on polished, marbled stone. It reaches out to all who care. It is too late to mourn. You did not know that I exist. You died and I was born, yet each of us are cells of you in flesh, in blood, in bone. Our blood contracts and beats a pulse entirely not our own. Dear Ancestor, the place you filled one hundred years ago spreads out among the ones you left, who would have loved you so. I wonder if you lived and loved, I wonder if you knew that someday I would find this spot and come to visit you. --Author Unknown

    3. My local library has discarded the following book ; EDITH WHARTON, A Biography, by R.W.B. Lewis. copyright 1975 I copied the following information from the internet. Edith parents, George Frederic and Lucretia Jones, were descendants of English and Dutch colonists who had made fortunes in shipping, banking, and real estate. Edith Jones belonged to the small, most fashionable society of New York which lived on inherited wealth and were interrelated. After a six-year sojourn of traveling and living in Europe with her family, she returned at age ten to live on Twenty-third Street, near Fifth Avenue, in Manhattan. She did not go to school, but educated herself by reading in her father's "gentleman's library," and was given lessons by a governess. In 1885, when she was twenty-three, she married Edward ("Teddy") Robbins Wharton. Edith Wharton was in an ideal position to view the social ambitions of the newly rich of the Gilded Age (the post-Civil War period of American expansion in business, foreign affairs, and the arts). Her world of old money looked down on the newcomers and their ostentatious display of wealth. Wharton was both a participant of fashionable society and an observer of its kaleidoscopic changes in New York, in Newport (where she had summered in her childhood and had her own house after her marriage) and later in Lenox, Massachusetts, where she built her own country house, The Mount, in 1902. Edith Wharton herself was not content to be merely a society matron and hostess. From childhood, she showed that she was exceptionally bright and creative: even before she could read, she made up stories, and as an adolescent, wrote poetry and fiction, a novella titled Fast and Loose, precocious for a writer of fifteen. As an adult she found writing difficult and did not publish her first book of fiction until she was thirty-six. The conflict she felt between the accepted role of a society matron and that of a professional writer caused her much anxiety, no doubt contributed to the depression for which she was treated in the 1890s. A tonic for her depression was her yearly escape to France and Italy which inspired her to write about art, architecture, and gardens. Wharton eventually settled permanently in France--first in Paris, in the historic Faubourg Saint-Germain, where she had begun spending winters in 1907--and later in its outskirts. She divorced Teddy Wharton in 1913. In Paris she found intellectual companionship in circles where artists and writers mingled with the rich and well-born, and where women played a major role. During World War I she became fiercely dedicated to the Allied cause. She led the committee to aid refugees from northeastern France and Belgium, and created hostels and schools for them. She helped establish workrooms to employ women who had no means of support and raised funds for these projects. Traveling to the front lines to observe the fighting, Wharton wrote reports for publication in America and urged the United States to join the war effort. Edith Newbold Jones was born January 24, 1862. If you have an interest in this book, please e-mail me OFF the list. Joan

    3. Merrie: Thanks for answering.... William F. Jones was buried in Sharp County, AR, which is only a couple of counties away from Randolph, County. I haven't run across the name Christiana Jones anywhere as of yet, I don't think. Do you know what part of Alabama? These Joneses lived in Madison County, AL., for a while. Some people think that William F. Jones' father was a James Matthew Jones from TN. There are tons of Joneses that were around Sharp and Lawrence counties. Right now, I have 2 different groups I am trying to tie together, which is proving to be a job. If I find anything on Christiana, I will let you know! Thank you, Rani

    3. Hello, Do you know what part of Arkansas William Franklin Jones lived in? I am also looking for information on a Jones line that moved from AL to AR. My g-g-grandmother's name on her marriage record was Christiana Jones, age 31, when she married William S. Fredrick in Pocahontas, Randolph Co., AR in 1863. Some census records show her birthplace as AL. I was sent info by another researcher that a William Jones Jr. and Isham Jones were living in Columbia Twp in 1860, and later moved to Little Black Twp, Randolph Co., AR. Also looking for info on Joseph B. Jones and George M. Jones who were living in Little Black Twp in 1861 when they, along with William S. Fredrick, joined Captain Ballard's 30 Day Volunteers Infantry (Nov. 17. 1861 to Dec. 17, 1861). Since my g-g-grandmother Christiana Jones was 31 when she married William S. Fredrick, I don't know if she was a spinster or a widow when she married. I am trying to find out if she was related to any of the other Jones in the area. 2. In a message dated 7/10/2005 8:51:17 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hello Ron. Would you believe that my JONES family has lived in Clark Co., KY for almost 200 years. This is my childhood home and a few generations of my grandfathers are buried here. I know a great deal about the JONES families that resided here. Have you located Hiram in the 1860 census of KY. It list each family member by name, age, and the place of birth of the head of household. His children should be listed. There are two Hirams in the 1850 census, and this group is part of my family. They originally settled on the waters of "four mile creek" and were great adventures, moving a total of 8 miles in roughly 200 years! (From their farm to the town of Winchester, KY) Hiram was the son of John Jones, "the baby brother" to my Nicholas Jones. Nicholas was born in Caroline Co., VA 1762 and moved from Spotsylvania Co., VA to join other family members at the South Elkhorn Baptist Church then in Fayette Co., KY. I would suspect we are "cousins". I have a copy of the 1860 census for Clark Co., but I cannot put my finger on it at present. I will try to locate it. Hope this is helpful. Jerry. (Presently living in Danville, KY approximately 50 miles from Winchester. See, we JONESES of Clark Co., KY are adventurous! ) Did Hiram have a brother named Stephan who moved to Illinois????? Stephan was born c 1799

    3. Hi, I am trying to trace the family of my g-g-grandmother, Christiana Jones. She married my g-g-grandfather William S. Fredrick in 1863 in Pocahontas, Randolph Co., AR. At the time of their marriage, Christiana was 31 (b. about 1832 in AL) and William S. Fredrick was 43 (born about 1820 in AL). I am fairly certain William had been married previously and had children from that marriage. I am also pretty certain he remarried after Christiana Jones Fredrick died in 1865 and had 2 more children with the third wife. William and Christiana had one known child: my g-grandmother Mary Ellen Fredrick. William S. Fredrick joined Captain Ballard's 30-Dau Volunteers Nov. 17, 1861 at Pitman's Ferry, Randolph Co., AR. Two men named Jones, living then in Little Black Township, Randolph Co., AR, also joined at the same time. This was 2 years prior to William's marriage to Christiana Jones. I am hoping to find info on George M. Jones and Joseph B. Jones, in the hope of tracing Christiana Jones. At. 31, she was unlikely to be marrying for the first time, and I am trying to find out if she might have been a widow of one of the two Jones men, or one of their brothers. Could sure use some help with this line. Merrie Sodder

    1. William T. Jones & Morgan Reese Jones, Monmouthshire & Carbon Co., PA - 1846-1925
    2. scribe
    3. I have included a brief genealogical family sketch and surely would be grateful for any help you can provide. In addition to the genealogy below there is a matter of great interest, which I think may possibly have appeared in a Monmouthshire area newspaper between the years 1868-1877. If anyone has knowledge of the incident or can contribute to the genealogy please be in touch. The family legend follows. William T. Jones (b. 1824-1826, Monmouthshire Wales) was a miner at Schuylkill County, Pa., Coal Dale (ca 1850), and later moved to Carbon County, Pa., Summit Hill (ca 1853) . Family legend has it that William T. Jones was hauling lumber to the mines when attacked by a mob of Molly Maguires and the band of thugs beat the daylights out of him. The legend goes further to state that he had the nose knocked off his face. There actually was a Molly Maguire during this time frame who had a reputation for lopping off noses! His surname began with a "B" and I think it may have been Branigan or Breneman, etc. I have searched for years for this information without success. It is my thinking that surely something as newsworthy as this may have been published in a newspaper from William's hometown, especially since so many family members emigrated to the United States from Monmouthshire. Again, anything you can offer regarding the beating of William T. Jones and/or the following family genealogy, as shown below, is greatly appreciated. WILLIAM T. JONES GENEALOGY, Monmouthshire, Wales Ancestor: William T. Jones, Monmouthshire, Wales; a miner. (bca. 1824, d. 30 Mar 1912, Summit Hill, Carbon Co., PA); emigrated 1846, Liverpool, Eng. to New York City, possibly on Ship Charlemagne or Ship United States.; wife Sarah (bca 1821, location unknown). Sarah may have died between 1850-1852. William remarries to "Ann", possibly Ann Perry/Parry. I believe her full name was Ann Charlotte Jones. Child #1: William Thomas Jones (b. 1845, Monmouthshire, Wales). Child #2: Morgan Reese Jones (b. 4/1847-1848), Monmouthshire, Wales; emigrated to U.S. 1851-1852 (August?); married Mary Jane Haldeman (b. 4/1851). Children: Ann Charlotte Jones-Thoma (b. 1873-1874); Maria Esther Jones-Oschman (b. 1875 d. 1909); William Horace Jones (b 1878); Sarah Irene Jones-Bobst (b. 9 Jan 1881). Child #3: Jeanetta Lewis, nee Jones (b. USA, Carbon County, PA., 1851-1853, d. 17 Oct 1893, Carbon County, PA., married James. ( There is also a William Lewis (b. _ d. 16 Nov. 1892), USA, Carbon County, PA.) Child #1: James Lewis (b. June 18, 1886), Carbon County, Pa. Ancestor: Mary Ann Williams, nee Jones (bca 1823, Monmouthshire, dca 1915, Summit Hill, Carbon Co., PA); married Thomas C. Williams (bca 1819, Monmouthshire, Wales; emigrated: Liverpool Eng. to New York City, 1842, age 23.) Mary Ann Jones-Williams is the sister of William T. Jones (b. 1824-1826). Ancestor: Morgan R. Jones (bca 1830, Wales), Carbon County, Pa., emigrated: Liverpool, England to New York City, 1854, age 24. Possibly a brother of William T. Jones, as shown above. NOTE: Last Will & Testament of William T. Jones. He leaves two properties, water company stock, and sums of money to the following grandchildren, a son, and his friend Eli Jones (& wife Sarah): Ann C. Jones-Thoma (b. 1873/1874), William Lewis, Mrs. Annie Jones, Mrs. Marg Smith, nee Lewis; and Mrs. Harry (Linda) Watkins, nee Lewis. His sister, Mary Ann Williams, is to live rent-free in his home on White Street, Summit Hill, Pa., until her death. Witnesses of the signing of the will are W. N. or W.W. Davis and E. W. Davis, both of Summit Hill, Pa. William's son, Morgan Reese Jones (b. 4/1847-1848), is his only child included in the will. I believe his first son, William Thomas Jones (b. 1845) must have died, and you can see that his daughter Jeanetta (above) died in 1893, leaving his only living child Morgan Reese Jones (b. 4/1847-1848) as an heir. Deeds for William T. Jones January/February 1853 - This deed is to the first property on Summit Hill, Carbon County, that William T. Jones owned. Prior to this he was living in Coal Dale, Schuylkill County, Pa., (1850 Federal Census) with wife Sarah and a five year old boy named William Thomas Jones. 6 January 1855 - William T. Jones & wife Sarah: Property on the North side of Railroad Street, Summit Hill, Carbon County, Pa. 28 April 1884 - William T. Jones & wife Ann. 23 November 1904 - Signed by William T. Jones and W.T. Jones. If this is his first son (b. 1845) one must assume until the facts are known that he died sometime between the signing of this deed and the distribution of the estate of William T. Jones (b. 1824-1826), since this son is not included in the will. There is another deed for a property at 31 Ammidon St., Summit Hill, Pa., the west side of a double

    2. I'm stuck on my Jones line with Micajah Jones b. approx 1797 in S.C. - have no more info than that I am trying to check his children and their decendants to see if maybe I can find someone who is related that has some clues for me. No luck in over 2 years. He married Genoa Tate on July 18, 1820 in Elbert Co, GA. I have a copy of the entry from the marriage book, but there is no other information there. I have a lot of information on her family as the Tates have been researched extensively by others. The children: William Green Jones b 1822 , Covington, Newton Co, GA married Emily Francis Chafin, had at least 3 children: Micajah, Genoa and Robert Robert Tyre Jones B 1827, Covington, Newton Co, GA Thomas R. Jones, b 1829, Covington, Newton Co, GA Lewis Jones b 1830, Covington, Newton Co., GA Noah Franklin Jones, b 1834, Covington, Newton Co, GA married Sarah Jane Heath (these are my great grandparents) Jefferson M Jones, b 1837, Covington, Newton Co, GA married Mary ?, moved to Coryell Texas and had at least 2 children: Jonah and Marcus I have seen him called Jeff, Mike and Micajah J Jones. Martha P Jones, born 1839, Covington, Newton Co., Ga. Married Willis Roberts and died in Gatesville, Coryell Co., Texas. A couple of people are researching this family but they have nothing more on Micajah Jones than I do. Columbus Jones, b 1842, Covington, Newton Co, GA (may have died in the civil war) Mary F Jones, B 1844, Covington, Newton Co, GA married William Neely Coleman and had at least 2 children: Ola and Olena. Known children of Noah Franklin Jones and Sarah Jane Heath (married April 3, 1856 - marriage license was from Newton Co, GA, but they apparently were actually married in Walton Co, GA James B Jones b 1858 Newton, Co, GA Henry J. Jones b 1860 in Newton Co, CA married Mollie ? from Florida Tahlulla Jones, b 1862 in GA Laronia Jones, b 1865 in GA Alace Jones, b 1870 in GA Minnie Jones, b 1872 in Alabama William Jones, b 1876 in Alabama Georgia Beatrice Jones, b 1878 in Alabama (this is my grandmother - she claimed she was born in Georgia - which might be true - they were living in Girard, Russell Co, Al in 1880 which is very near the Georgia border.) In 1920 census, widowed Sarah Jane is living in the old family home with her widowed daughter Essie or Emma Barnes. They used nicknames all the time for the kids, so I'm not sure whether this was Tahlulla, Laronia or Alace, but it was probably Laronia (I think her middle name was Emma). This daughter was married to Spencer Barnes b @ 1858 in FL and they had at least 4 children: Johnny b 1898; Edward, b 1891; Ernest H, b 1889 and Frank, b 1904. Do you see any connection with any of your Joneses? > [Original Message] > From: KEVIN BOERS <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Date: 7/17/2005 2:53:02 PM > Subject: Re: [Jones] re: Green L. I have a Mary Farquhar Jones that married a Robert Maxwell Green. My Jones line has connections to SC and the Green line to GA. Can you go back further on your Jones line? > > > Kevin Boers > > [email protected] >
