    2. Bob Battaglia
    3. Does anyone have any data on family of Shadrack Jones. He appears in tax list Cumberland NC 1804 and census of 1820. I have a Shadrack Jones MOORE born in Johnston Co NC 1814. Trying to see if there is a connection. Do not know parents for either one. My Shadrack Jones Moore appears to have a brother named Samuel. That's all I know. Appreciate any help.

    3. I knew bonding was done in those days, but I guess I thought it was so a child could learn a trade their family could not teach them. To be bonded out to a farmer when your parents were farmers sounds totally wrong. I'm glad that has changed. 3. This "bonding out" of children was the law in some southern states, particularly NC. Since women had no rights, when a father died (or if the mother was unmarried) the mother had to prove in court that she could support her children or they would be "bound out" to strangers to learn a trade. Fortunately, almost all the "orphan" children in my family were "bound" to other family members. I did find a little 3-year-old girl WORKING as a SERVANT in one of my families. What could a 3-year-old WORK at? So sad. dotsicle

    3. Thanks for the information. I know life was different in those days, but I really hate to think of a 12 year old tied to someone other than family for 9 years. I'm sure they needed money, but oh my! 3. At 07:20 AM 8/26/2005, you wrote: >Jones Family Gathering >Shadrack Jones - born 1783 North Carolina; died 1851 Morgan Co., TN I am not a descendant of Shadrack Jones, but maybe you can help or direct me to the person who can answer this. I am researching Shadrack Jones MOORE. He was born 1814 in Johnston Co NC. I believe your Shadrack is said to be in Cumberland Co NC. Is there any indication of Moores being related to Shadrack Jones line? I have not been able to find the parents of Shadrack Jones MOORE, nor any of his brothers/sisters, except maybe a brother named Samuel. It would be likely that there was a relationship somewhere given the naming and nearness in NC. Shadrack Jones Moore was a Methodist preacher and married Tacy Jones (no known relationship to Moores) in 1838 Talladega Co AL. They were in Kemper Co MS in 1850. Then they journeyed thru Texas and finally settled in Polk Co. AR where Rev Shadrack Jones Moore died 1894. He named his first two sons Thomas Moore and John Jones Moore. First two daus Tabitha and Emily. Any help would certainly be appreciated. I hope your reunion is a grand success.

    3. My mother's cousin worked on our family history. She has listed for Stephen Jones that he was bonded to one George Chandler on August 15, 1827 until he was 21 by the father, Thomas Jones. The information was filed in Deed Book G folio 218 I think, on page 256-257. The only George Chandler I can find in the 1830 census for Kentucky is in Harrison County. I thought our Jones family was from Campbell County Kentucky. Is their anyone that could check this out for me in Harrison County????? I realize that bonding a family member to another person to learn a trade was somewhat common back in 1827, but the family moved a few years later to Iowa. It really bothers me that they left this child behind. I would love to find out if this is really the Thomas Jones that moved to Iowa and what happened to Stephen if he were bonded to George Chandler and left behind. When he was bonded he would have been about 12 years old. Please contact [email protected] if you can help me out.
