I am searching for information about my Great-grandfather, Willis Washington Jones. I am hoping to find someone who might know what his father's name was, and what Kentucky family he belonged to. Willis' mother was Elizabeth Laird Jones, and Willis was born in 1853, and by 1860, he was on the census with his mother and step-father J.R.U.Crabb and half-siblings in Barren, Hart, Edmondson County, KY area. Elizabeth Laird was born in Hart County and they lived in Barren County as well, then later moved to Kansas. She died in 1912, and is buried here, and her husband J.R.U. and daughter, Bettie moved back to Barren County, KY and they are both buried there in the Glasgow Cemetery. Anna, I do not think your Osbourne Jones is related to Alfred Jones, who was living in Kemper County in 1850. Alfred was born in North Carolina about 1801. I believe him to be one of the sons of James Jones and Mary [Unknown] who lived in Wayne County, Mississippi from about 1812 until 1830. The youngest son of this couple was born in Tennessee in 1805, and their daughter Chloe was born in SC in 1803. So it would appear the family originated in NC, moved to Tennessee between 1803 and 1805 and to Mississippi about 1812. I believe James the father died about 1815 as Mary Jones appears in the tax and state census records for Wayne County, Mississippi between 1815 and 1820. There is also a younger James and a Wiley Jones who are taxed on Buckatunna Creek in that period. Mary is in the 1820 census with four sons and a daughter. Her household was enumerated four households from that of Thomas Bussey Oden, on Buckatunna Creek. Thomas's oldest son, Elias Oden married Mary's daughter, Chloe Jones in 1822, they are my ggg-grandparents. Between 1820 and 1830, as the sons of Thomas and Mary came of age, they are recorded in the Wayne County tax records as polls. During that period, I have sorted out Britten Jones, Alfred Jones, Ralph Jones and Alson Jones as being the sons of Mary Jones, widow of James Jones, with James, Wiles and possibly a John Jones, having come of age before 1820. Britten Jones and Alfred Jones, along with Elias Oden and his brothers do not appear in the 1830 Mississippi census, and neither does Mary Jones. They do, however, appear in the tax records and state censuses taken in Kemper County between 1830 and 1840. Kemper County was Indian Territory in 1830, and the county was not formed until 1834, after the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. I believe the Jones and Oden brothers do not appear in the census, because they were in Indian Territory, staking out land in anticipation of the treaty. In 1860, Alfred was living in Lauderdale County and by 1870, I think he was dead, as his widow and younger children were living in Winn Parish, Louisiana near where Alson Jones, and the widow and children of Britten Jones were living. Both Alson and Ralph named daughters Chloe, and Alson named a son, Elias. Chloe and Elias immigrated to Leon County, Texas, before 1860 and both died there. Marleen Van Horne

Looking for the parentage of Osbourne Jones Born in N.Carolina (possible brother of Alfred) found 1840 census of Kemper County, Ms. Married to Mary Dicey, last name is possible nickname. Osbourne is one the 1850 census with a Mary as his wife, but she is the former Mrs. Thomas McWhorter, they were married ca. 1848-49. The son in the house is Moses, son of Osbourne and first wife "Dicey". The Calvin Jones, M.D. is another son married to Jane Caroline Spinks, daughter of John Spinks and Margaret Kelly. Family bible says he was born 18 Sep 1789 in Matawan, Monmouth Co., NJ, (though the 1850 Fed. census says he was born in NY). Amos Jones died 15 Apr 1854. He married Elizabeth STILLWELL of Middletown, Monmouth Co., NJ on 4 Mar 1819, and together they had the following children: Susan Rebecca, Mary Ann, William Ely, John Stillwell, Elizabeth Stillwell, Mercy Maria, George Franklin, Sarah Pernie, and James Alfred. First is Enoch Jones, who married Elizabeth 'Betsy' Ferrell. I was told that her father was John Ferrell but no name for her mother. Does anyone know her name or who she could be? Enoch Jones was born September 17, 1790, most likely in NC. (Where?) He died February 03, 1878, in Cannon Co, TN. I would love to get a deed for his property if there is one and map it on my deed mapper. It will tell me where that deed property is today. He is buried in the Banks Cumberland Pres. Church Cemetery, Smithville, DeKalb Co, TN. David, one of my maternal ancestors was Margaret Gamage, daughter of Robert and Jane/Joan (Champernon) Gamage, born 1536 in Van, Montgomery, Wales. She married Thomas Lewis 1560 in Van, Montgomery, Wales, and they had 8 children, all born in Wales. Their grandson, Edmund Lewis, and his family were the first in my line to come to America in 1634, to Massachusetts. Any tie-ins? The photograph was taken at the Elite Studio in San Francisco, CA probably in the 1890's with Vernon appearing to be about 1 year old at the time. Based on limited research and thanks to the assistance of a BROWN Family Researcher I was able to locate Vernon Thomas BROWN b. 6 May 1895 at Somersville, CA to parents Samuel BROWN and Jennie JONES. Vernon married Frances BRACKETT about 1920 and died 18 October 1955. During the 1900 census the family was recorded living in Somerville, CA with records indicating the following information: Samuel BROWN, b.
