My ancestor was Joseph JONES (1801-1870), a convict from London transported to Port Jackson (Sydney, NSW, Australia) on the ship “Hadlow (1)” in 1818, having been convicted of burgulariously breaking and entering at the Old Bailey in London in April 1818. His Parents were John JONES (1773-…..) and Hannah (Ann Levena) SWINNEY (1773-…..). Apart from Michael, who may or may not belong, and may have been christened elsewhere, their children were all christened in Saint Andrews Anglican Church in Holborn, London on the dates indicated below: c.1799?? Michael Jones (to be confirmed – also a convict to NSW ) 14.10.1801 Joseph JONES 1.5.1803 John JONES 16.9.1804 Charles Moorhouse JONES 9.2.1806 Edward JONES 19.4.1807 Sarah JONES 8.11.1808 George Hartman JONES 23.9.1810 William Flanders JONES 1.11.1812 Thomas JONES 23.7.1815 Richard JONES - twins 23.7.1815 Henry JONES - twins I am interested to talk to anyone who is researching this family. They lived in Leather Lane in Holborn, London (up to 1808/09) and then in the neighbouring street, Hatton Gardens. Anyone who believes they might be connected to this family, please get in touch. When I looked at the LDS microfilm of the Saint Andrews Church baptismal records, all of the children in this family had a dot next to their name in the original register, so there is someone out there who was researching this family. William Andrew Jones was my 2nd GreatGrandfather. He was born January 2, 1867 probably in Montgomery County, Arkansas. His mother was Nancy Kathyrn Hulsey, daughter of Salathial Hulsey, Hall County, Georgia. William Andrew can be found in Hot Springs, Arkansas from the 1880 Census until his death in 1932. He was a butcher and had a business on Grand Avenue, Hot Springs. He was married first to Dora Lee Tucker from Clark County, Arkansas. Dora's parents were William Martin Tucker and Mary Jane Jones Tucker. Mary Jane Jones is my second Jones line. According to death certificate for William Andrew, his father was Joseph Jones. This is my only information on William Andrew's Jones side of the family. Have never been able to get beyond this point. Feel that both these Jones lines are connected but have no way of proving. Lou Burr, Researching Jones, Hulsey, Whish in Garland, Montgomery County, Jones, Tucker in Clark County, and Thrash, Moran in Pike County, Arkansas
Penny, I think I found mine through one of the genealogy book dealers you can find on e-Bay. Then, of course, there's always doing a Google search! Last (but maybe the most certain) would be to write: The University of North Carolina Press PO Box 2288 Chapel Hill, NC 27515-2288 p.s. While the book is really great, it focuses on the settlement of the area between the Yadkin and Catawba rivers of N.C. so I'd suggest you take a look at your road atlas and check to see if your ancestors were in this area. Hi List I am looking for the birth of David Jones in Llandeveilog, Carmarthen, Wales born about 1765, married Catherine Davies 12 Nov 1795 in Llangunnor, Carmarthenshire, Wales and died 1 Jul 1843 in GaregGoch Farm Llangendeirne, Carmarthenshire, Wales Does anyone have this person on their tree? I would like to hear from you. Thank you for your time. Regards Marion
Too bad, No such luck-- I thought your Wiley might have been born 1804 in Tenn. --- the year before Alson (1805). Thought Alson's sister was born 1803 in Tenn. Thanks for all your information and hard work. Sorry to be so much trouble.. Karli
Found an old note from "VA Supreme Court Cases in Dist. of Ky" 1783-1792 William Humphrey (who may have been Polly or Jane JONES father-in-law) lived in Pulaski Co.,Ky. 14 Oct.1832 was Charter Member Mt. Olive Christian Church. (in edge of Casey Co.,Ky.) son John moved to Randolph Co.,Mo. Hope this helps Jenny
Karli, It all depends on which Wiley Jones you are asking about. Wayne County, Mississippi is one of those places where the court house fell into a hole in the ground, taking almost all of the county's records with it. Surprisingly, there are some tax and census records surviving, which are very helpful. TAX ROLLS 1813......James Jones......1 white poll 1814......James Jones......1 white poll......Buckatunna 1815......James Jones......1 white poll 1816......James Jones......1 white poll......Buckatunna 1816......Wiley Jones......1 white poll......Buckatunna 1822......John Jones........1 white poll 1823......John Jones........1 white poll 1824......John Jones........1 white poll 1825......Britten Jones.....1 white poll 1825......Alfred Jones.....1 white poll 1825......John Jones........1 white poll 1827......James Jones......1 white poll 1827......John Jones........1 white poll 1827......Alfred Jones.....1 white poll 1827......Alson Jones......1 white poll 1827......Britton Jones.....1 white poll 1827......Willie Jones.......1 white poll.....possibly Wylie 1828......Ralph Jones.......1 white poll 1828......James Jones......1 white poll 1828......John Jones........1 white poll 1828......Alfred Jones......1 white poll 1828......Alson Jones.......1 white poll 1828......Britton Jones......160 acres 1829......Alfred Jones......1 white poll 1829......Alson Jones.......1 white poll 1829......Ralph Jones.......1 white poll 1829......Britton Jones......160 acres 1829......James Jones.......1 white poll CENSUS RECORDS STATE AND FEDERAL 1816......James Jones......1 WM>21.....0 WM<21.....1 WF>21.....1 WF<21 1816......Mary Jones.......0 WM>21.....4 WM<21.....1 WF>21.....1 WF<21 1816......Willey Jones.....1 WM>21.....3 WM<21.....1 WF>21.....1 WF<21 1820......John Jones........1 WM<10.....1WM 16-26.....1 WF<10.....1 WF>45 1820......Mary Jones.......2 WM 10-16.....2 WM 16-26.....1WF 16-26.....1WF>45 1830......Ralph Jones......1 WM 5-10.....1 WM 20-30.....1WF 20-30 Ralph Jones was the only Jones underconsideration as a son of Mary Jones who remained in the county in 1830. Mary had probably died by that date. Britton, Alfred, and Elias Oden, Chloe's husband had all gone to Indian Territiory to what became Kemper County in 1833 and were not counted in the 1830 census We know from other sources that Alson Jones was born 5 November 1805. He would have become 21 in 1826, but if the tax was assessed before that date, he would not appear in the tax rolls until 1827, which is when he appears. So taking that into consideration you can sort of figure out which of these Jones men were probably Mary's sons. I have other information which supports their relationship. My analysis is that the James Jones in 1813 to 1815, was probably Mary's husband. He probably died around 1816. James the oldest son, who was born 1795 in North Carolina, is probably the person in the 1816 census and tax roll along with Mary and Wiley. This Wiley is either a relative who came to Wayne County for a short time after James died, or he is not related. John may or may not be a son. Britton, Alfred and Alson are definately brother, based on other documentation. If Ralph is not the fourth son, I do not have another candidate. The Wiley in 1816 would seem to be older than the Wiley you are looking for. Marleen Van Horne

Marleen, The parents of my Wiley E. Jones were supposed to have been from North Carolina. Wiley was born in 1804 in Tenn. Also, Wiley's brother or father might have been called J.J. Do you have any idea when James jones's Wiley was supposed to have been born? Thanks, Karli Dye ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marleen Van Horne" <[email protected]> >I am looking for the ancestors of James Jones whose wife was Mary >[Unknown]. Hi Jenny, There is a book by Robert W. Ramsey called "Carolina Cradle - Settlement of the Northwest Carolina Frontier, 1747 - 1762" copyright 1964, published by the University of North Carolina Press. This scholarly book covers the people who had already moved to or migrated to this area during this time frame. If I recall right, Squire Boone moved to the area known as the "Forks of the Yadkin" (where the Yadkin River splits into several branches -- where present day Rowan, Davie & Davidson counties converge). My own ancestors, Hunter family, came during the same time frame (1752), were run off by Indians (to Virginia and Pa), then returned around 1755 or 56. Daniel went west in the early 1770's, founding Boonesboro in present day Madison Co, KY. He returned to the Forks area a number of times leading new groups west when he would go back to KY. My ancestors went with him in 1778, initially to Boonesboro, then later moving a few miles west to present day Jessamine Co, KY. In any case, this is an excellent book and one that covers some of the question you had/have. I'm not sure what questions you'd like to ask, but I've got the book and could take a look for information for you. If Zadock shows on an 1850 census, I would guess that (IF his ancestors migrated with the Boones) it would have been Zadock's grandfather or great-grandfather or even great-great-grandfather that would have been making those moves. Can you provide anything more specific (other names, dates, other family names besides Jones, etc?) to go on? I can tell you this: the only Jones's mentioned in the index of the book are: Catherine, David, Henry, Hugh, James, John, Joseph and Thomas. good luck, Mike On Fri, 30 Dec 2005 11:05:07 -0600 "Jenny" <[email protected]> writes: > Does anyone know if and where information could be found as to who moved with the Boone family from Pa. to NC. to Ky.? Since searching for info on my James Jones. born 1761 in N.C. or Va. Maybe raised up in Hanover, VA. Married Susanna White ( daughter of Henry White) in Henerico co. Va. in 1795. Her second marriage I think. Died in Barren co KY in 1809. Can't find him in U.S. Census in 1780,1790 or 1800 but in 1800 maybe in same county with father in law Henry White since Henry White died in Barren co in 1810. James had 3 children, William Jones, born in KY or Va in 1802 and 2 daughters Polly and Patsey. James Left a will in Barren co Ky but William was orphaned out a guardianship bond in Barren Co., Ky. William Married a Judy or Julia Kelly ( Kelley) in barren co., Ky. in 1825. According to a book written in the late 1800's, James was of Irish descent.
I am looking for the ancestors of James Jones whose wife was Mary [Unknown]. They were in North Carolina until after their daughter, Chloe, was born in 1803. The youngest son, Alson, was born in Tennessee in 1805. By about 1813, they were living in Wayne County, Mississippi on Buckatunna Creek. James had died by 1815, and Mary appears as head of household in the 1820 census. Other sons in this family were possibly James, Wiley, John, Britton, Alfred and Ralph. Britton, Alfred and Alson eventually moved to Winn Parish, Louisiana and lived out their lives there. Chloe married Elias Oden and lived in Kemper County, Mississippi, but moved to Leon County, Texas by 1860. Do any of you recognize this James Jones as being a member of any of the North Carolina Jones families you are researching. Marleen Van Horne

Mike, I wish I could help you and your aunt, but I did not recognize any of the names. The closest any of my Jones ancestors came to KS, MO, and KY were in SC, OH, and IA (Whitfield Benson Jones--1811-1892), and IA, SC, and NE (Laura Helen (Jones) Lewis--1839-1919. Sorry. I'm trying to find out if these people moved to Missouri from Dresden, Tennessee. I would really be grateful for any information on William S. Jones. Thanks, Jo Ann Crafton Boyce List of Letters, remaining in the Post Office at Dresden,Tennessee, on the first day of October, 1840, which, if not called for by the first of January, 1841, will be sent to the Post Office Department of dead letters; Billingsley, Samuel Jones, Wm S., Jones, Richard, Jones, Thomas, King, Thomas, Levister, Levi, Signed D. Hi Sandy, Several "reports" I found on Ancestry.com showed Hardin Jones as having been born in Madison Co, KY. However, I didn't record and don't remember seeing any sources cited for this information. I do know that from about 1775 on a lot of people flowed west to Madison & Jessamine Co, KY (immediate vicinity of Boonesboro) then in the 1820's and 30's, the migration moved further west into Missouri (many to Boone Co, Mo.). Thanks for asking & hope you might have some help! Does anyone know if and where information could be found as to who moved with the Boone family from Pa. to NC. to Ky.? There is a Zadock Jones in Casey Co., Ky (near Madison) that on 1850 Census shows born in Del. Thank You. Jenny
Hi Mike.. I'm sorry if I missed this info in your aunt's family line but what part of KY were they in? I have a Celia Self in my database, who was b. sometime around 1760ish. She was the daughter of William Isaac Self and Dicey Nancy Vaughan. Her brother, Job married Mary Jones, sister of my ancestor. This makes me wonder if your Jones family may be related to mine. Mary Jones was from Franklin Co. NC, but Job & Mary left there soon after thier marriage. My Celia married Jonathan Moreland. However, it might be possible that one of her brothers named a daughter Celia. Karen
