    3. Dear Alan, Denise and others interested in this Jolly line, It's taken me awhile, but I've finally gathered a few more snippets in connection with William Godolphin JOLLY's parentage. I'm posting this to the lists for the benefit of others researching this family. I'll fill in the background briefly for these folk - and to refresh memories ....... Most genealogies of this line have linked William Godolphin JOLLY, C. 28 May 1798 at St. Enoder (the full date comes from the BTs) to William JOLLY and Jane HARRIS. William JOLLY and Jane HARRIS married at Cornelly on 4 Nov 1790 and their children were - * William, C. 10 Jul 1791, Kea (no mother named) * John Harris, C. 25 Dec 1794, Kea * Samuel Harris, C. 29 Oct 1797, Kea * Betsey, C. 17 Oct 1802, Cornelly >From the 1851 Census HO 107/1914, f. 304 (Gwennap) William JOLLY - Widower, 59, Labourer, Born Kea. He died in 1857. I have been working on the theory that William Godolphin JOLLY's parents were Richard JOLLY and Winifred (aka Jane) BUCKINGHAM, who married 20 Sep 1794 at East Newlyn. I think the father's name in the St. Enoder registers is a clerical error (of which there were a great many at this time). Richard could possibly be the youngest son of Francis JOLLY and Ann HOLLIDAY, C. 2 Nov 1769 at East Newlyn. There seems to be a BUCKINGHAM-GODOLPHIN connection. The IGI shows the marriage of John BUCKINGHAM & Grace GODOLPHIN, 20 Jul 1736 at St. Columb Major - and a possible baptism for Winifred: 3 Aug 1766 (d/o John Buckingham/Mary), St. Columb Major. John BUCKINGHAM married Margaret PIPER, 23 Jun 1763, St. Columb Major and their children included - William Godolphin BUCKINGHAM, C. 3 Jul 1774, St. Columb Major. A Richard JOLLY and Wineferd (sic)/Jane (I think they're the same person) lived at Feock in the early years of the 19thC - Nancey Jolley, d/o Richard Jolly/Jane, C. 2 Aug 1801, Feock Peggy Jolley, d/o Richd Jolly/Wineferd, C. 14 Sep 1806, Feock Peggy Jolly, d/o Richd Jolly/Jane, B. 18 Jul 1810; C. 21 Oct 1810, Feock. Nancy JOLLY married John MAY (botp) at Feock on 3 Mar 1829. Witnesses were John May and Francis Jolly. Peggy JOLLY (sojourner otp) married Samuel CLEMENTS (otp) at St. Columb Minor on 25 Dec 1836. Witnesses were Thomas Clemens, William George and William Clemens. The only JOLLY burial I managed to find in the Feock registers was for Martha Jolly, buried 19 Mar 1809 (with no additional detail!) East Newlyn burials, however, included the following - * Richard JOLLY, Trevoal, 10 Feb 1839, 72 * Jane JOLLY, Tundrain, 10 May 1836, 73 Richard's death certificate indicates that he was a 72 year old labourer who died 7 Feb 1839 in the Parish of Newlyn of Apoplexy. The informant was Anne Jolly, wife, Trevoal, Newlyn. Richard JOLLY and Ann ANEAR (botp) married at East Newlyn on 27 May 1837. Witnesses were Richard FIDOCK & John OLIVER. No details were given re. the marital status of the parties. (#"/%*x#!!!) It's certainly not conclusive, but I hope that there are a few more pieces of the puzzle here to help those who descend from this line. Best, Victoria. ********************************************************************* Victoria Dunlop Richmond, Victoria, Australia E-mail: victoriad@ozemail.com.au Dead Dunny Website: http://www.ozemail.com.au/~victoriad/ *********************************************************************
