    1. Re: Jolly Locations - everywhere
    2. Kay Hinnrichsen
    3. Hi Marlene, Not at all. This list includes JOLLYs everywhere. It is just that there are a few of us who are a little more vocal than others :) I know for a fact that some of our 'Aussie JOLLYs', or at least siblings of them, went to USA and hopefully we can link in there somewhere. There was a William JOLLY a brother to the Betsy that Jane mentioned who went to Jewell County Kansas and died before 1889. We have no info on him at all. Another went to Alaska and someone is in touch with descendants of his. So by going back as far as Pat and Victoria have done will hopefully find those who have gone every which way by linking into siblings. In our line for instance in that same family, Wm went to USA, Louisa went to South Africa, Betsy and Joseph to Aust, but Jos went back to Cornwall where one sister remained, another went to Guernsey, so really the sky is the limit with this JOLLY lot!! :) Just imagine when we link the lot up we can all go world touring and meet cousins everywhere! 3. Hello, everyone. Perhaps I have misunderstood this list? Is it just for Jollys who went to Austrailia? I am seeking info on the Jollys who were in Rowan/Iredell Co, NC by 1760s. Names I am seeking info on are Charles, William, & John. Don't know where they came from, but as far as I can tell, from census records, William would have been born ca. 1754. Allen Jolly, son of William, b. 1786. Miles, son of Allen, b. ca. 1814-1815. Miles was in Smith Co, TN in 1840; Perry Co, Mo 1850; Jackson Co, IL 1860 and Scott Co, Il 1870. Can anyone help? Thanks, Marlene

    3. Hi Pat & All, Firstly - Mawgan-in-Pydar is about 4 miles north of St Enoder. There is St Enoder, Colan, St Columb Major and then MiP nestled in there. It is on the northern coastline - earliest records 1674. Thanks for the info on John JOLLY & Loveday BLACKMORE. I have been going through what I have and adjusting and making notes. There was a child ( Blackmore) that I did not even have ! There are a few errors that I may have or you may have. I hope you do not mind me going through them. You have Betsy JOLLY ( Kay & my line) as dying at Moonta. They lived at Kadina in retirement, and believe they died at Kadina, buried at Moonta. Will check. I have Henry JOLLY who died at Mintaro as 28 Oct 1888 ? I also have details of his family - do you want those ? I have Joseph JOLLY marrying Harriet DAVIS (not DAVIES ? ) Also had no record of him being a Moonta Mining Captain - Kay - have you got that one ? Also , you have Elizabeth b 1843 dau of William JOLLY , listed as a clay labourer ? And you have a John JOLLY death 1696 in St Stephen in Brannell - could this be the father of Henry JOLLY of St Enoder , our unproven link. Brian Nice , when he did some work for me , had John as the father of Henry - I assume from parish records that he sighted but as yet I do not have a copy. Henry JOLLY of St Enoder b 1675. is in my file with a big question mark ! ( Henry of St Enoder had a son, Joseph b 1711 - OUR Joseph who married Mary BOND ??? ) Brian sent the info over as " St Enoder Baptism - The 22nd day of January 1675 was baptised Henry the sonn of John Jolly " His words were " as much as we can tie it down , it looks like Henry is your man" I also have miscellaneous JOLLY burials from St Enoder that I will send later. Bye for now, Jane PS St Ervan is on the north border of Mawgan-in-Pyder

Their children included Robert, James (1800-1847), Martha and Keziah (married Benjamin SUFFERIN). James' son, Robert Reed JOLLY, married Elizabeth BURTON, 1851, KEN. Their son, also Robert Reid JOLLY (1873-1946), married Mary Elizabeth WRAY. They came to Australia (Melbourne) in 1928. Some other details available. I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has information about the above families, or other JOLLY /REED/BURTON/WRAY/SUFFERIN families living in Kent from the late 18th century to the present time. Happy hunting, everyone! Eril Jolly (Melbourne) eril.jolly@ais.vic.edu.au

    3. Hi Jane, Thanks for the thanks re my last list, the children of John and Loveday Jolly. I am trying to sort out what I know and what I need to know, so any information, from yourself or other Jolly listers, to fill in the gaps (or correct inadvertant errors) would be appreciated - with particular regard to census details. Regarding a researcher on the spot in Cornwall, Jane, I would be most interested in chipping in to hire one and if your suggestion, Brian Nice, is supported I will be happy to go with him. Now to particulars. What do I do to put my share of the payment in? And do you (or other Jolly listers) have any ideas of where we should concentrate our efforts to get the best results. Victoria Dunlop has already accomplished a lot with her researches and may be able to give us a clue as what best to do. 3. Hi all, I read with interest Pat's last list. Well done ! You have put it together very well. Also read Victoria's mail , and the mistake found in Phyllis's work. This mistake, I believe came from Paul Brewer. I am quite willing to follow Pat's suggestion and get a researcher to help us , if we all chip in, but we must be really sure that we get quality, ACCURATE research. I have had good results from my researcher , and was wondering if he would be suitable ? He is Brian Nice of Cornwall. He has a web page and is easy to contact and works in advance of payment. Any comments ? Bye, Jane

    3. Hello Phyllis, You wrote > > Attached is Jolly research forwarded to me by Paul Brewer for your > information. <snip> > There are no burials at St. Enoder for the time between his > [William's] chr and mar and unless someone comes up with > info to the contrary then he believes this to be correct. BUT THERE ARE!! The following extracts are from the St. Enoder Parish Registers (FP 56-1-2), Burials 1718-1812 Francis, son of James Jolly was buried April 29 1785 William, son of James Jolly was buried May 1 1785 (I've got another note on this which gives the date as May 10 1785) Frances, daughter of James Jolly was buried May 13 1785 One of these days (when I have more time!), I'll go through the registers again to double-check what I have and to look for additional info and clues. It's interesting that all three are recorded as children of James - especially the sons who were about 25 and 20 years old. I've considered the possibility that they belong to a younger James - but could find no evidence to support this. James and Philippa's wills, which mention ALL their children EXCEPT Francis, William and Frances also seem to confirm the link. On the basis of the research I've done so far, I've concluded that the William Jolly who married Jane Harris IS NOT the son of James and Philippa. A few things to consider ........ Has your researcher located a record of death/burial for your William Jolly? The CFHS Burial Index has a William Jolly, aged 79, buried 26 Mar 1817 at Cornelly. Born c1738, this one sounds rather old ......... possibly a relative of some sort given that your line spent some time there in the early 1800s. On the other hand, it's not unreasonable for a man to get married and produce a family in his 50s. What evidence is there for a birthdate of c1765 for William? Is this pure guesswork based upon the assumption (which characterises so much of the so-called "research" in Ancestral File) that men married at age 25?? What did the marriage entry for William Jolly and Jane Harris tell you? Did they marry by banns or by licence? Was he a bachelor or a widower? Who were the witnesses? The first of William and Jane's children were born in Kea. The probate indexes show a couple of wills for Kea Jollys which may turn up some useful information: * JOLLY, Wm., Kea, 1741 * JOLLY, Mary, Kea, 1768 You can order copies of wills and extracts from parish registers etc. from the Cornwall Record Office. Email them for information at - cro@ceo.Cornwall.gov.uk I'm sorry if I seem to be playing the devil's advocate, but the research you've had done doesn't look very thorough - or very professional. 3. Hi Kay, I have been getting some good feedback from Victoria Dunlop, Michael McCormack and Richard Bolitho re my 'family trees'. They have been most helpful adding info and correcting my assumptions. Would you like me to send some of the amended trees or is that clogging up the Jolly email too much do you think? The East Newlyn Jollys tie in closely with the St Enoder/Ladock lot and Victoria has done a lot of work on them. She also explained to a very dim me that East Newlyn is next door to St Enoder (west) and the other Newlyn (St Peter) was not created until 1851 from the parish of St Paul. I have also been collating as much info as I could on the children of John Jolly and Loveday Blackmore. If you have any thing that would fill the gaps I would be grateful. Michael McCormack said the first Jolly (William) in St Enoder records, who marr Katherine Warne at St Ervyn (do not know where that is in Cornwall must ask Michael) in 25/6/1594 was the VICAR of ST ENODER. I wonder if there is a way of tracing his origins through church records? Pat ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Hi All, I have just taken over as listowner of the JOLLY mailing list. Some of you already know me from the JOLLY list I ran through my own email address which had 53 members all of whom I hope will transfer to this list. To those of you I have not had the pleasure of meeting - "G'day". I hope that we can all combine to find lots about our respective JOLLY lines and can link into others. I am knew to this 'listowner' thing, so please bear with me while I learn the ropes. Great to be here and I look forward to hearing where you are all from and your research interests. Take Care and be kind to each other.
