Hi All, Had this sent to me from a friend in Cornwall last night. Have not looked him up yet but thought it might be of interest. "West Briton Friday 12th May 1854. John Jolly, aged 47, of Pen Scawen, Mitchell, St Enoder, died Sunday last. Might be of yours. Penscawn is on my morning cycle ride to get the papers from Summercourt." BTW: Had a call today from the LDS library to say that my films are in. So will be there Saturday am looking at them. Daresay I shall need more than 2+ hours to go through them all but will report in on a regular basis!! Hi Gerrie, Have you actual proof that he was born in Essex? Sometimes they were born elsewhere but because they have lived in a place for a very long time it is really only assumed that they were born there, so it may be worth following that one up. Hi everyone, I have been lurking for awhile, picking up the jargon and learning this hobby by tracking a few lists. I believe I am hooked now. I haven't found my JOLLYS farther back than 1881 Essex. Have checked out tons of places. I just went thru this site's archives to no avail. Now for my question: My ggrandfather Robert JOLLY was said to be born at Romford Essex- as said on the 1881 census, making him born in 1831 or1832. I have just found a Robert JOLLY married to Eliz. Harrison at Skelton, Guisborough Yorkshire in 1780. Now this happens to be the place where my grandmother Emily ABBOTT was born & she married Henry JOLLY son of Robert JOLLY (born it said in Essex) What are the chances that the 1881 birthplace was not Romford but up in Yorkshire? Are there any Yorkie JOLLY'S out there on this JOLLY List? Everyone I've seen seem to be from the east or south of England. As Robert was born before civil registration of1837, I don't know where to start looking for his BMD info. Any thoughts from you on this would be appreciated. Do I sound helpless enough? How about Scotland? Are there many from there? Best wishes to all from Gerrie, celebrating a Canadian holiday this weekend courtesy Queen Victoria's Birthday.
Richard, I have been trying to place the Jolleys on your 1638 will. I believe that items 6,7,& 8 are the three children of Alexander (Saundrye) Jolley b about 1578 and bur 1614 St Col Maj. 6. Richard Jolley b.13.11.1611 ?m Frances HUSBAND 1641. Chn: Henry b 1645, Mary b 1648, Thomas b 1652, Frances b 1654, Barbara b 1656, Ann b 1659 m Thomas BOLITHOE 7. William Jolley b 16.10.1608 ?m Joane Retallack 1651 chn: Joane b 1659, Susan b 1660 8. Jennifer Jolley b 15.9.1614 m Anthony Pollawin 1636 However the other heirs have me mystified as I do not seem to be able to place the family at all. I take it that Henry Jolley's son is Marke Jolley. I have a William Jolley b about 1571 who had a son John Jolley ?m Ebbett (Elizabeth). John and Ebbett had three chn: Mary b 1636 St Col Maj, John b 1639 St Col Maj, and Elizabeth b 1645 ?m Richard Sare 1664 St Col Minor. Could these be items 3 & 4 & 5? I have also a Richard Jolly b about 1575 whose chn were: Jane b 1605, St Col Maj Avice b 1608 John b 1610 ?m 1639 Martha Polgreene St Col Minor and chn: Anthony b 1639, John b 1645, Joane b 1653 and Henry b 1660, Katherine b 1614 m Abel Williams 1655, Henry b 1613 ?m Elizabeth chn: Honor b 1661, John b 1662, Samuel b 1665 If you have worked out what the relationship is between the various people mentioned in the will I would be grateful if you could let me know so that I could tie up my St Columb Major strays for my records. Good morning Cyndy It looks like we follow the same web sites. My grandfathers, Thomas, Thomas, Thomas and David lived in Butler County. The first Thomas and his brother Samuel settled in the area in the 1790's, Samuel across the line in Venango County. Both are mentioned as early settlers. Their children married and Thomas #3 was the result. I am trying to determine where the brothers were born and who were their parents. Mary Henke, do you know her, is trying to link them with John and David in Kentucky as other brothers with the parents being John and Jean Jolly from York County, Pa. I am going to Pa next week to see if I can find more on this idea. I am guessing you might be descended from David Jolly who married Elizabeth Kelly. He went on to Ohio. I would love to chat further with you as I was a Jolly till I married. Good morning Cyndy. We must be following the same web sites for Jolly's, I responded recently to your other message. My history is that Thomas and Samuel (brothers) settled in counties next to each other, Butler and Venango. Their children Thomas and Rebecca married, at least it makes it one less line to gather information on. They both appear in the history books as first settlers with indications that Westmoreland was their point of origin. I don't think this is true, it may have been a stopping point for a while. That is the focus of my research and what ancestor came over on the boat. I am guessing you are from the David Jolly line who married Elizabeth Kelly since he went on to Ohio. She died in an Indian attack if my memory is working today. Any information you would care to provide regarding your line I would be interested in. Good talking with you.
