Hmmmmmm! I see I am going to have ongoing problems with this 3rd cousin of mine on this list as well as on the Cornish L!! :) May have to organise another trip to SA to have a talk to her Mum and Dad!!!! How on earth did I put up with her in London and Cornwall last years!!! :) Also for those of you who are not aware, if you miss posts due to unsubbing, computer crashes etc you can retrieve or view the Archives at: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?surname=JOLLY It seems the main Archive search engine in down at present but this one is still operating. Hi All, Here is what I found on the St Enoder Parish BDM Records yesterday. I have not finished going through them all as yet. I know I missed one early in the records so with enough time at the end I am going to go back to those early ones and go through slowly as the writing is ghastly in some areas and the pages damaged in others so may still not get all that are there. Luckily there is a lady at the library who reads old English! So that is a bonus!! She is bringing me in her guide to reading it! To me the first name in 1664 looked like Elizabeth but it is in fact Cheritie [Charity]! I have put it into a word document which I have copied into here, so if you do not get it properly let me know and I shall send it to you as an attachment privately. I forwarded the thread about John Jolly to a Trethewy expert this was his reply <<Chris: Thank you for your email. I have watched the Jolly news for quite some time now and wonder if there are any Jollys who married Etchells? My Jolly Etchells line comes from Farnworth Bolton England around 1878. I was hoping for a sibling who had a sister, Sarah Jolly that married a James Etchells. Thank you Deborah California

Hi! I have been reading everyone's information and I have yet to see any connection to my husband's Jolly family. His mother always said that they were descended from Jolliet, the French explorerer. The earliest Jolly that I have is Henry Jolly, born in Virginia in 1814. He married Susan Good, also born in Virginia in 1805. They moved to Ross or Pickaway County in Ohio and are burried there. Does this match up with anyone else and has anyone else heard of the Jolliet connection. Thanks. Debbie Dunham

Hi, There is a Jollife line from Virginia abt your time an earlier. He was John Jollife. If you pursue that name dont confuse the two family lines, Joll(e)y and Jollife. They are two seperate and generally dustinct lines. I say generally cause I know of one lady who is related to both of the families. It also becomes confusing as Jollife and Jolley is found in some early documents in the same document. Many people of those times were iliterate and someone else wrote the document other than the person its about. These someone elses were government people, lawyers, physicans etc. hope this helps a little erv jensen eajensen@earthlink.net reddnhm wrote: > Hi! > I have been reading everyone's information and I have yet to see any > connection to my husband's Jolly family. Hi All Received this today from Michael McCormack whom some of you may know. He is also my source re the West Briton paper and he is keeping his eyes open for more. Newlyn East 1841 Census Folio 11 page 14 Trevilson: John Pill, 45, Ag Lab Alice Pill, 50. Elizabeth Jolly, 60 Maria Jolly, 15. Trevilson is a hamlet halfway between Mitchell and Newlyn East; had about 7 or 8 houses in 1841, including a poor house. There are only 6 there now. Hi All, This may be of use to someone. Found it while re checking some notes on my husband's HURST line. "Also I have a reference to Jolly in my research. Just a side reference. One of my main surnames is Bennett. In 1860 John Henry Bennett married Elizabeth Jolly b 30 May 1830 St. Col. Minor Cornwall. She died in 1870 I think while giving birth to a son who also died. As far as I can see her parents were James Jolly b 1799 S. Enoder Cornwall and Elizabeth Teague b 1799 S. Col. Minor Cornwall. James and Elizabeth had William b 08 Jun 1828, Elizabeth b 30 May 1830, Eliza Ann b 18 Nov 1833, Mary b 05 Feb 1837 and John b 05 Apr 1839. This is not really a primary line but I thought I would mention it as your notes referred to Jolly. John Henry Bennett then married Julia Douglas and it is one of their sons who are my great grandparents etc. But I would be interested to get more info on the Jolly family if we are talking about the same line." Hi All, Well, I found a couple of JOLLYs today at the LDS, but only managed to read one film [and then not completely!] This I found at the beginning of the Lanteglos by Fowey film. It is the tail end of Lanreath Records - Deaths 1813 - 1890. JOLLY Christopher died 10 Aug 1824 aged 70 late of ?Trevalfry [that is what it looked liked] - p19 no 98 JOLLY Elizabeth died 28 Feb 1847 aged 83 late of Lanreath - p49 no 337 JOLLY John died 30 Nov 1849 aged 78 late of ?Jursdon Comment - Accicental death - p45 no 360 I am not familiar with any of these names [pple or parishes/villages] but for those who don't know, Lanreath is just north of Lanteglos by Fowey. I am booked to return to the library next Saturday.
