    3. Hi Jane & Pat, To answer you both to save my breathe! :) >Did you ever look for the missing NEWBERYs ( London) at LDS ? No have not looked for them as yet - am flat out trying to get through the 3 films I have in. >. Sounds like you had more on JOLLYs missing >years than I have. I wonder if the original Mt Barker house is still >there - any address ? Who do you think were the JOLLY Bros printers ? >William and which other brother ? I am thinking that it was Jane's Joseph - they always seemed more together than Henry it seems but that is only a guess! as Henry was married in 1866 at Dry Creek [where is that?] and I figure away from Mt Barker and wasn't he a blacksmith? Where was he married? Re the address of the house I am not sure but I might be able to find out. It may be in the postal directories SA Almanac and Town & Country Directories were published each year from 1839 & are in the library. Pat's Joseph was already entrenched in SA [arrival 1846] so where did he live and what did he do? Do you know Pat? Could be worth a look up in the directory too. >Fighting off a cold at the moment - all achey and sneezy. Hope you get over it faster than I did Jane!! FROM Pat: Thanks for those extracts from the S.A. business directories. Another facet to the fleshing out of the Jolly family in S.A. The church aspect is also interesting as my Joseph presumably would have been in contact with the local church or church circuit wherever he was living. But how does one find out Methodist Church records? ***I wonder if he even went to Mt Barker? The Mortlock Library has Methodist Records but not many that are that early. The actual church may still hold some - I believe Mt Barker does - this is where the info I have is from but back in the 80s it was obtained. I have a copy o copy of Andrew Peake's book 'Sources for South Australian History' and he list the years of Methodist Records in Mortlock Library. *** Do you think the records of the S.A.Bank would be still available? ***Cannot find anything in Andrew Peake's Book on banks. *** I have a record of J.Jolly clerk, Moonta Mines 1872-1876. Do you have any claim on him or could he be mine do you think? Also a Joseph Jolly, oreweigher Moonta Mines 1872-1878, and an assayer in 1882. He is not mine so which of yours would he be? *** Jos the Clerk was Jos sen husband of Betsy. The oreweigher/assayer was Jane's Joseph the son and my Wm's brother. *** P.S. Also seriously considering how I can get enough of the readies together to join you for the return to Cornwall in 2002. What fun it would be. *** Uh oh!! 1. Baby Boy Jolly - Born 8/7/67 in San Diego, CA
    2. Bishop, Paul
    3. Hi.. Thanks for taking the time to read this! I am an adoptee that recently discovered that my original (Biological) last name is Jolly. Apparently, my mother was living in the San Diego California area, and was rather young at the time; she had gotten pregnant, possibly with a member of the USMC or USN. She felt she could not provide me with a stable home, and decided to place me for adoption via Children's Home Society of California. I was adopted at about eight months old, by a couple that could not have children of their own, John and Gail Bishop. They were excellent parents, and brought me up well. However, in light of finding out this information, I am now very curious about my past and lineage, as well as having a medical "driver" for finding out some background information about my birth parents and family. Information that I know at this point (have more coming, non-identifying information from CHS): Born 8/7/67 at approximately 6:30 am, possibly at San Diego Naval Hospital. Mother's last name at my birth was Jolly, Jolly was only name placed on original birth certificate. From preliminary information, it appears that my maternal grandmother (her mother) was possibly an RN or nurse of some kind. Father appears to have been military, do not think that she was married to him at the time (nor do I know if in fact they ever did marry, or if they were just "ships in the night"- is was the late sixties, you know!) Placed with Children's Home Society of California, she was involved in adoption proceedings, at least cursorily. Though she has not contacted CHS for a waiver (I did) of confidential contact information, I do not know whether or not she has ever actively persued finding out where/how I am- therefore, I must state that I do not mean to intrude into her (or possible siblings/half-siblings/etc) life, merely interested in my background, as well as some medical information- due to a fairly major (and potentially inherited) medical condition. If any of this sounds familiar to any of you, I would greatly appreciate an email back! I can be emailed via this list, or directly emailed at pbishop@mediaone.net and/or paul.bishop@fmr.com Thanks for your time!! -Paul Bishop (aka Baby Boy Jolly, 8/7/67)

    3. Hello All, It is about time I listed my Jolly interests. My 2nd great grandparents Drusilla JOLLY and George TALBOT were married in 1862 in Barrow, Suffolk, England. Druscilla's parents were William JOLLY and Elizabeth BLINCOE or BLANKER. She was christened 25-12-1844 at Barrow, Suffolk, England. Druscilla died 2-12-1878 in Queensland. Can anyone assist with any further information. Thanks in advance. Merv Merritt Manly, Queensland, Australia

    3. Kay, Your PR list rekindled an old mystery that I came across when compiling the St Enoder 'tree' previously. Who was the William JOLLY who married 'Anny' (Amy) and had not only the child you recorded, John in 1671 but 1) Jone b 1658, 2) William b 1660 (?m Ann Rickards 1704 St Erme and had Elizabeth b 1710 St En, Mary b 1711 St En, Rose b 1714 St En), 3) Joseph b 1662 (no marriage found), 4) Thomas b 1664 (no marr found), 5) Susanna b 1666, 6) unn male b 1669, 7) unn male b 1670, and finally John b 1671 (?m Elizabeth Blewitt 1702 St En and had John b abt 1703 m 1727 Ann Prideaux and Ann b 1709 St En)? I have tried placing him in surrounding places but so far to no avail. As he has a JOSEPH JOLLY in his progeny it would be rather nice to know how he ties in to the St Enoder JOLLYs. The Philippa who was the wife of James JOLLY was probably PHILIPPA CLEMOWE. Victoria Dunlop has researched this family in some detail, I believe. The Elizabeth who was the wife of William JOLLY was probably ELIZABETH SOLOMAN and Victoria has again worked on this family in detail and helped me with my St Enoder tree posting some time ago. It should be in the archives if anyone wants to look it up. 3. Hi Kay, Thanks for posting the list of Nonconformist registrations of JOLLYs. Is there any way of knowing whether these were baptisms, marriages or burials? Or do we assume them to be baptisms? Pat Milne P.S. Sorry that I have been quiet on the JOLLY front recently, but as I am going over to the U.K. again in July for three weeks or so to see my daughter Kirsten, I have been concentrating on the MILNE family tree as she wants to go up to Scotland to see where they came from. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

For a time we did think that this info was correct but in fact Catherine nee KELLY died following the birth of Joseph in 1809 who also died the following year. Joseph sen remarried to Anna Maria BENALLACK and had a son Joseph b 1815 who m Elizabeth JOLLY dau of John and Loveday BLACKMORE. They were 1st cousins [their fathers were brothers]. Elizabeth was known as Betsy. Jos and Catherine KELLY did have 4 children - Elizabeth, Catherine, Henry and Joseph [who died]. Joseph and Anna <aria BENALLACK had 5 children - Joseph, Amelia Mary Benallack, Ann Maria, Stephen and James Benallack. There are several of us descended from one or both of these lines. I am from both. I have sent you by private mail an attachment re William Godolphin's family. Charles is not on this list currently but I am contacting him again to see if he wants to join. He is in SA too. Welcome to the JOLLY list! 2. Narelle, I too have a Winn and Jolly family in my line. Guy Winn, who was born in 1908, married an Agnes Bate. Both the Bate and Winn family originated in Cornwall prior to immigrating to the USA. Do you find these folks in your tree? If so, drop me a line and we can exchange info. wrights1@pacbell.net Bill Wright Kay Hinnrichsen wrote: > > > >unsubscribe > > (I hope I'm doing this correctly) > >Very excited to get your message re. the name of Jolly, Jolly is my maiden > >name My grandparents were Harold Francis Jolly and Beatrice Maud Winn, my > >great grandfather was Charles William Jolly married to Mary Ann Mansell, > >Charles Williams parents Henry Jolly and Eleanor Williams Trebilkett > >arrived in Australia 31st January 1839 from Cornwall England. > >I am interested in anything regarding these people and am more than happy > >to share any information I have. > >Looking forward to sharing > > Narelle > > Smith > > ***Welcome Narelle! > > For the benefit of the Aussie lot, Narelle is descended from Henry JOLLY > s/o Joseph and Catherine nee KELLY although he names his mother as Maria > Benallack.
