Hi Bev, I am very interested in your JOLLY family. One of my wife's ancestors was a Robert JOLLEY born about 1730. Married Catherine TYRER on the 4th Nov 1755 at All Saints, Wigan. Would you by chance have any record of him. Just not sure where he came from. I have other family names that are in Wigan whose ancestors come from Bolton Le Moors, so there may well be some migration here. Hope to hear from you. I have a Henry Jolly in our family who married Mollie (Mary H) Cox. She was born about 1864 and lived in Breckenridge County Union Star KY. I don't know if Mollie's husband could have been James Henry Jolly, but my mother always said we were of Irish descent and I haven't found the connection yet. Could he have married twice? Amy, I don;t have parents for Dudley A.Jolley but I have the marriage record and he was born 1808 and married Delia Nees 25,April 1827 in Wythe Co. Va. So if this George's children were all born in the 1820's he couldn't be Dudley's father. -------------------------------------------------------------------- > >>From: AEELPN@aol.com >>Reply-To: JOLLY-L@rootsweb.com >>To: JOLLY-L@rootsweb.com >>Subject: George Jolly from Ireland? >>Date: Tue, 12 Sep 2000 20:13:40 EDT >> >>I am tracing my husband families and I was looking for info on a George >>Jolly >> who emigrated from possibly Ireland. Hi Kay The boat shed is on the sth. bank of the River Torrens / King William Street.Adelaide city. As a kid, I can remember they hired out row boats, paddle boats. I think it is now a restaurant. (havn't been near there for 15 years). Ian
Hi All, Over the past few months I have been in consultation with Michael McCormack in Cornwall who is planning a project to be called "Cornish 1891 Online Census Project". It will involve transcribing the 1891 Census for Cornwall (some 200+ parishes) and having it accessible online. The microfiche have just arrived in Cornwall from the LDS. Those of you who are subbed to the Cornish List may have seen the posting from Michael regarding this. In the meantime I am looking for volunteers here in Oz who may be interested in transcribing. I am the Australian-Cornish representative so Michael will send the microfiche to me and I shall distribute within Oz. Volunteers will need a computer and access to a microfiche reader. The actual programme to be used will be the one currently being used by the Devon group who are 9 months into their project. If you say yes - you can point your browser at http://www.cs.ncl.ac.uk/genuki/DEV/censusproject.html to view the programme IN_CENS which will be adapted for Cornwall I believe by the writer of the programme (John Lerwill). We therefore invite volunteers to join us in this exciting project. We will supply the microfiche and the software. There is a web site, an online tutorial and a mailing list. If you think you may be interested please email me <mailto:kayhin@southwest.com.au> Let me know your choices of parishes so that Michael can send them to me. For those of you not on the Cornish list, this is the post from Michael: "Hello List members I don't know how many of you are also subscribed to our sister list for Devon. But if you are, you will know that they are transcribing the 1891 census returns for Devon to create an online, "free-to-view", database to be hosted by Rootsweb. Details can be seen on the Devon/Genuki pages. We have decided we would like to do the same for Cornwall. We therefore invite volunteers to join us in this exciting project. Volunteers will need a computer and access to a microfiche reader. We will supply the microfiche and the software. There is a web site, an online tutorial and a mailing list. Why the 1891? The concept should be OK for any census. Well, it is available on microfiche and NOT available on disc or online. It also seemed important to stay in step with the Devon Project, who are going to give us help and guidance. We can learn from their experiences. They are currently about 9 months into their project. Who are we? We are Dave Stick & Michael McCormick. We have an advisory group of Rick Elliot, Paul Brewer and Kay Hinnrichsen to keep us from feeling lonely. This project is designed to produce an enduring asset for present and future Cornish family historians. It will appeal, we hope, to the people on this list, the members of the World-wide Cornish Online Community. There are no deadlines, so you can work at your own pace and convenience. So, please join us, and transcribe the parish of your choice! To avoid clogging up the list, please email us direct with any comments, questions, or best of all, to volunteer.
