Hello:There is a Benjamin Johnston in my clan.My maternal GrGrandfather (William K.Johnston) was born in Georgia. He married Martha Emaline Nix in Lafayette County,Arkansas in l861.Benjamin was born in Texas in 1867,and is listed in the U.S.Fed.Pop.Census in 1870,living in Maysfield(Milam County)Texas.Unconfirmed sources say that Martha died during childbirth in 1872 in San Marcos (Hays County)Tx.,and that the children were brought to Bowie County (Texarkana)by Martha's sister (Caldonia"Callie" Nix Russell.Benjamin is listed im the 1880 Fed.Pop.Census for Bowie County,Tx.and living with maternal Grandfather Benjamin Nix.My stonewall is that I cannot confirm nor do we have any information as to what became of William k.Johnston, nor for that matter as to whether Martha really died in San Marcos,Tx.No cemetery records, nothing but heresay as to what became of William and Martha Johnston after the 1870 Census listing their family in Milam County,Tx.There is an 1860 Fed Pop Census for Lafayette County,Ark.listing a W.K.Johnston,age 26,whose place of birth is shown as Georgia.Could it be one of your Johnston relatives?Any info would be appreciated.Thank you.Raymon Jones -----Original Message----- From: Beverly Shuler [mailto:bshuler@comcast.net] Sent: Monday, December 06, 2004 4:58 PM To: JOHNSTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [JOHNSTON] Benjamin H. Johnston I read them all, as well. Keep thinking that my old Sen. James Johnston, Jr., Esq. of Twiggs Co., GA, must have some other descendants than my family! He had ten children! Happy Holidays, and thanks a whole bunch of Christmas greens.
