I, too, am related to General Joe through his great uncle Robert who was born in the early-middle 1700's, and lived (may have been born there, too) in Pettigo, Tyrone County, Northern Ireland. My particular branch (Robert, wife - Jenny Graham, son Francis and wife - Mary Margaret Clark) arrrived in the Port of New York on 23 Nov 1811 via the brig West Point from Londonderry. They probably lived first in Pennsylvania and then moved to the vicinity of Wayne County, Ohio, and later to Allen County, Indiana, then back to Morrow County, Ohio. Robert was a brother to Peter Johnston, Sr., grandfather to General Joseph Eggleston Johnston, son of Peter, Jr. and Martha Wood Johnston. General Joe's family lived near Farmville, Prince Edward County, Virginia. If you have more information on this Johnston line, I would love to share with you, because I am pretty much at a dead end.
