Dear Juanita, In one of the bio's I found of General Joe, I remember reading that one of the Peters - Peter Jr., or Peter Sr. - was a Revolutionary War Veteran. Those two men were General Joe's father and grandfather. I'm sure any encyclopedia would give that information. My line came to the USA later than General Joe's did. (Peter, Sr. is listed as arriving in Virgina in 1750.) My Robert came into the port of New York in 1811, along with his son Francis, Robert's wife Jenny Graham, Francis' wife Mary Margaret Clark, and Francis daughters, Mary - born 1807, later married John Firestone in Wayne County, OH. And Margaret - my great grandma, born 1810, died 1878, married Jacob Lawrence in 1834 in Wayne Co. OH. F and MM later had two more daughters who married men named Cooper and Davis, and a son - John Clark Johnston, born 1818, resided in Morrow County, OH, where he was the first postmaster of Blooming Grove according to a history of Morrow county. It was in this bio that I found the information that he was a 2nd cousin to General Joe. And that he was 'but four generaqtions removed from Oliver Cromwell...." My Mom had repeatedly told us about the relationeship to the Lord Chancellor of England which came through the Clark line, so I immediately knew who John Clark J was. My Mom was Bertha Lawrence (1886 - 1979) who married Otis Knowlton in 1909 in Ft. Wayne, Allen, Indiana. Her Dad was David Lawrence (1838 - 1911) born in Wayne Co., OH, moved to Lafayette Township, Allen Co., IN about 1853. He was the son of Margaret Johnston and Jacob Lawrence. It seems to me that if I could give these illustrious ancestors of ours one small pieece of advice, I would certainly tell them to marry their offspring to names other than Clark, Davis, Cooper, etc. Every one of them is as difficult as Johnston to locate. But it has been fun. I have not yet made all of the four generations to Oliver Cromwell, but I hope to do that before I add many more years to my 85. And I hope to get all the Johnston relationships deciphered, too. Optimism is about all I have left, however. Incidentally, I have Miller (another difficult name) relatives who also have taken to a 5th wheel to acquaint themselves with the USA. What fun. When my kids were small, we used to take off and tour the USA when I visited my parents who lived in Indiana all of their lives. I have lived in Iowa, Arizona, New Mexico and various localities in California during my life. After the kids had grown, I used to go by myself and they were always sure something terrible would happen to me, but nothing bad ever did. It was good to visit where I had lived previously, and then my family and friends all over the country. I have been ill for the last five or six years so I cannot go exploring now, but I have wonderful memories of doing that. Good luck. I hope we do turn out to be connected. It is much more exciting to do this with someone than alone. Jeanne Knowlton Eldredge
