Hi Sandy, My William Johnston is not yours but knowing about him might help you. He was born in Randolph County VA (now WV) in 1796, the son of another William Johnston. His father was born in Anondale Scotland and died and buried in Monroe County OH. The younger William moved to OH about 1820 I think and most of his children were born in Monroe County. He had a son, also named William, but not your William either. His son was born in 1830 and died in 1864. He had three brothers that I know of named John, James and Elijah. I have no other information on any of the three but since their father and brother was in Monroe County, I expect that they were also. Any of the three would have been in the proper age group to be the father of your William. As popular as the name William seemed to be in this family, you may find that all three of them had sons named William.
