Left to mourn her passing are her nephew, Jim White (Marilyn) and grandnieces, Nancy, Allison, Julia and Eileen White, all of Ottawa; her cousins, Murray, Gregg, Joe, David, Julie, Jean, and Lynda (Bihun) Johnston, all in Alberta and BC, Jamie Johnston of Ottawa, and Jean, Pat and Jeannette Niven of Minitonas, Manitoba. Jean was born at Rosetown (1912) to Samuel Johnston and Janet (Niven). She received her schooling at Jerome school near Rosetown and Nutana Collegiate in Saskatoon. Jean graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1935 with a B.A. in English and French. She also studied art with Gus Kenderdine and showed considerable promise, an indication of where her career would later lead. She worked as a teacher at Jerome school, as well as schools in Alsask, Mortlach, Maidstone and Cut Knife. Jean spent the war years working for the federal gov! ernment in Ottawa, and then set out on a career in her first love, art. Jean worked as a freelance commercial artist and portrait painter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for over 35 years. She also taught at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Jean returned to Saskatoon in 1985. For her, family was first and foremost. Jean was always there for her brothers and sisters in times of need. She maintained a keen interest in world affairs and politics until declining health began to take its toll in recent years. Jean was predeceased by sisters, Eleanor (Henderson) in 1950 and Molly (White) in 1984; brothers, Gregg in 1943, Dave and Joe of Rosetown, both in 1985. Our sincere appreciation and thanks go to the staff of Parkridge Centre for their kindness and care over the last two years and in her final hours. Additional kind thanks are extended to Jean Wright and Blanche McDonald who previously cared for Jean in their special care homes in Saskatoon. A special thank you goes to Jim and M! abel Finley for all their care and assistance over the years while Jea n lived in Saskatoon. A celebration of Jean's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2nd at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 338 Fourth Avenue North, followed by a reception at the W. A. Edwards Family Centre across the street. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8. Arrangements are entrusted to Prairie View Chapel and Crematorium. Saskatoon
