My GGGGrandfather was Lewis Matthew Gregory Johnston, born (somewhere!) in England approx. 1800. He married in Edinburgh and spent the rest of his life in Edinburgh and Lanark, Scotland. He was a master Sword Fencer and had numerous acadamies where he taught fencing, gymnastices and callisthenics. He also taught sword & blade handling to the military and cavalry. Quite a guy. He died in Lanark 1874. His parents were Henry Erskine Johnston and Nannette Parker, both actors who appeared in all the major cities of England, Scotland, Ireland and Henry also acted in New York in the early 1800's. Unfortunately, I can't see how any of this will help you with your James Lewis Johnston, but we genealogists can't seem to help ourselves clutching at straws. Good luck with your research, Dornie in cold and windy Melbourne, Australia.
