Johnston, MD. It is said that he was born in Westmoreland County, PA in 1798 and was the son of John Johnston. I believe W.J.'s parents were immigrants but I do not know from where. W.J. studied medicine in Wheeling, VA under a Dr. Mowry. He married Mary Ann Thompson in Ohio (1838) and practised medicine in Pickaway County, Ohio. In 1848 the family moved to Iowa eventually settling in Shelby County, IA. Any information about Dr. W.J. Johnston, especially information about his life prior to 1838 and his parents/siblings, would be greatly appreciated.
