I believe that anyone born prior to statehood would have been listed in a Virginia or Maryland census. Death certificates may also list place of birth as Virginia or Maryland if the individual was born prior to statehood. I am unaware if the county names or configurations changed after statehood, but I am sure there were some changes. Scott
