    1. [JOHNSTON] Johnstons and Smiths in Pennsylvania
    2. GENE AND JANICE JOHNSTON
    3. I am looking for a Joseph Johnston born in PA in 1824 who married Rachel Smith, born in PAA in 1834. I believe her parents were George Smith and Elizabeth Overturf from around Driftwood in Cameron Co. Rachel would have bee the oldest in a family of eight, according to the 1850 census. They came to Wis between 1868 and 1871. Their children at that time were: Joseph b. in 1854, John b. in 1857, Jane b. in 1858, Josie b. in 1860, Mary b. in 1862, Elizabeth b. in 1865 and Jeramiah b. in 1868. All of these children were born in PA, presumably around Driftwood. I know some of the family married into the Jordans, the Dents, the Mixs and the Barrs. Rachel youngest brother, George Alonzo, lived with the family in Wis until at least 1880. I believe Joseph came from Columbia Co. and that his family was in Philadelphia before the war. When they came to Wis they came along with some of Rachel's family, the Smiths. Some of the Smiths were already there before they arrived. They settled in Dunn Co. in Wisconsin. Eventually some of them kept going west to ND, Mont., Oregon and Wash. Any information would certainly be appreciated. Gene Johnston
