Hello to everyone on this JOHNSTON surname list! I am new to this list and just want to introduce myself and to let you all know what little I have in info as I just started searching my family geneology. Unfortunately, both my maternal side and paternal side are sketchy at best. I am just starting out but have a huge ancestory from Clarion County and nearby areas in PA. My parents both moved to Western NY upon marriage but 99.99% of all my relatives come from PA (Clarion County area). So I would appreciate any info that can help (especially from a distance). The family names are listed below my signature...I am really interested in the surname ethnicity of the surnames as well, since they are really not overly obvious. Thanks for this great list. Some of the towns in PA that I've heard mention that some of my relatives/ancestors did or do reside in include.... Distant New Bethlehem Mayport Frogtown Shippenville Rimersberg East Brady Hawthorn Kittanning ~The Johnston in my lineage is my maternal Grandfather [dec.], Lloyd Earl Johnston who resided in Distant PA. He was married to Bertha Courson (Corson?) [dec.] Their children include: Betty Ann Johnston (marr. Hilton "Spud" Smith [dec.]) Dorothy Jean Johnston (marr. James "Bo" Copenhaver), Norma Jane Johnston (marr. Isaac Schrecengost) James Earl Johnston [dec.] (married Patricia Hornberger), Judy Mae Johnston (married Donald George), ~They also had 2 infant sons that were stillborn and Lloyd Earl Johnston has a son from another relationship....whose given name may be Early Troup(e) of PA. Lloyd Earl Johnston's only sibling that I have a name for is... Roscoe Johnston [dec] (married to my grandmother's sister Ida Mae Courson {Corson ?} [dec]) Lloyd Earl Johnston was born in 1908 and died in 1966 in his sleep of heart failure. My mother believes that though he grew up and resided in PA (residing in Distant, New Bethlehem area of PA), that he may have been born in Indiana ! We have not yet come up with his parents names since both he and his brother died fairly young. That leaves us off at my generation and newer and that is pretty much all I have so far on the Johnston line. But I am anxious to learn more. I am come across info that Johnston is of Scottish or Irish heritage, but from that side of the family, there was told of Irish heritage, but not Scottish! Thanks again for any help! Have a great day! Thanks, Karen ~Searching Family Tree With Names... Johnston, Downing, Courson (Corson), George, Chestnut, Sherman, Young ~Many reside(d) in & around Clarion County, PA ~My alleged ancestral nationalities include: Irish,German,Dutch,Swedish,Scottish (but as of yet, know one can say to what surnames these pertain)
