I have received the following information on the family of Andrew Johnston: Please find to follow biographical details taken from Who's Who of British Members of Parliament: Andrew Johnston, sen. 54 Devonshire Street, London. Rennyhill, Fifeshire. Elder son of Andrew Johnston, Esq., of Rennyhill. Born 1798; married first 1826 Barbara, daughter of D. PEARSON, Esq. of Edinburgh; secondly 1834 Priscilla, daughter of T.F. Supported Reform in Parliament and the abolition of slavery; opposed to Lord Stanley's plan of education in Ireland, in favour of the abolition of the existing corn laws, would vote for Church Reform, and oppose lay patronage; in favour of the ballot and short Parliaments. Was elected for St Andrew's district in the Parliament of 1831. Sat until he retired in 1837. Died 24 August 1862. Andrew Johnston, jnr. 46 Onslow Square, London. Woodford, Essex. Holton Hall, Halesworth, Suffolk. Reform. Son of Andrew Johnston Esq., of Holton, Suffolk (formerly of Renny Hill, Fife, who sat for St Andrew's 1832-37), the his second wife Priscilla, elder daughter of Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton, 1st Bart. Who's Who of British Members of Parliament. Volume I 1832-1885. The Harvester Press. 1976.) Andrew Johnston of Rennyhill Fife (Kilrenny) His Father was Andrew Johnston of Pitkeirie, who purchased Rennyhill in 1750 which was later sold by Andrew Johnston (son) in 1853. Andrew was born in 1803 and died in 1862. The following information was provided from a book by Helen Borthwick: (General Register Office for Scotland) JOHNSTON Andrew, younger, of Renny Hill -MP for Anstruther Easter Burghs (now St. Andrews), 1831-1832: St. Andrews burghs, 1833-4, 1835-7 -Of Holton Halesworth, Sussex. Sold Renny Hill, 1853 -The son of Andrew Johnston. Died 24.8.1862 having married (1) Barbara daughter of C Pearson of Edinburgh in 1827; and (2) Priscilla daughter of Sir Thomas Folwell Buxton, Bart MP on 18.6.1852. Of their children a son, Andrew, was MP for Essex 1868-1874 I further received information from another "source" whom provided further information quoted from a book. "Enumeration District 3 in the census schedule is that part of the burgh bounded on the North and East by the lands of Mr. Bethune and Innergelly and on the South and West by the ancient Royalty". There are just over a dozen houses here, but they included such mansions as Inngergellie House, Rennyhill farmhouse and minister's manse, where we find the most prominent men of the Parish. Rennyhill, formerly a possession of the Lumsdens or lumsdaines of innergellie, had passed by the mid 18th century to the Anstruther baillie Andrew Johnston, and at the time of the 1841 census was inhabited by his great grandson George Johnston. George's brother Andrew was to become MP for East Fife." Andrew Johnston, sen. 54 Devonshire Street, London. Rennyhill, Fifeshire. Elder son of Andrew Johnston, Esq., of Rennyhill.
