Two of their kids, Hanna and Mahala, married into the Johnston line. Hanna married John G Johnston and Mahala married James J Johnston. So we have two sisters married to two brothers. Further searching reviled that their parents were Mitchell and Elizabeth Johnston. Now some will say Johnson but I am pretty sure it’s Johnston. All but two of the census checked on have Johnston. I went back and captured the 1830, 1840, and 1850 census for Mitchell & Elizabeth. 1830 Census, (Cumberland), KY: JOHNSTON, Mitchell, 1m (1800-1810-Mitchell), 1m (1820-1825-John), 1m (1825-1830-James), 1m (1825-1830-William), 1m (1825-1830), 1f 20-30(1800-1810-Elizabeth), 1f (1815-1820-Unknown), 1f (1820-1825-Unknown). 1840 Census, (Clinton), KY: JOHNSTON, Mitchell. 1m (1800-1810-Mitchell), 1m (1820-1825-John), 1m (1825-1830-James), 1m (1825-1830-William) 1m (1835-1840), 1f (1800-1810-Elizabeth), 1f (1820-1825-Unknown), 1f (1820-1825-Unknown) 1f (1835-1840-Elizabeth), 1f (1835-1840-Martha). 26 Aug 1850, (Clinton), KY: 329-329 JOHNSON, Mitchell, m, w, 48(1802), VA, farmer, Elizabeth, f, w, 50(1800), VA, John, m, w, 23(1827), KY, James, m, w, 21(1829), KY, William L, m, w, 19(1831), KY, Elizabeth, f, w, 14(1836), KY, Martha, f, w, 12(1838), KY (Page 2-49). Does anyone know who the two females were that were born between 1815 and 1825? The reason I am asking is that my Palmer Smith was married to a Johnston or Johnson and she was born abt 1820 in KY.     3. Someone wrote that RootsWeb does not accept attachments, which is correct for Mailing Lists. But Message Boards *do* accept attachments and they can be viewed by following the link on the gatewayed message.     3. Hi List-recently there has been some traffic on Clinton County Ky list about Alexander Hays and Elizabeth Travis. I responded that Matilda Hays, their daughter, married my Palmer Smith. Over the past several years I did a little capture of Alexander Hays and Elizabeth Travis family. After the email mentioned I did a little more. Hi List In our tree we have an ANDREW JOHNSTON [no details known] who married MARY LONGELY [no details known] Their daughter AGNES JOHNSTON was born in 1831 and died in 1912 Victoria, Australia AGNES JOHNSTON married JESSIE JOHN HOLMES in 1856 in Victoria, Australia. Is there any lister who can help identify our Andrew Johnston, his ancestors/siblings/country ?? We would be sooooooo grateful.     3. Hi Patty, Unless you just totally got lucky, names without places and at least some ball park dates are almost impossible to tag to anything. Take some time to organize your notes, marriages, children, etc. and it will really help you in this fantastic hobby of searching.     3. Hi: I am searching for my illusive JOHNS(T)ON family. Here is what I know of them: DAVID JOHNS(T)ON b. 1787 in Ga. (Wilkinson Co.?) d. 1852 in Plaquemines Parish, LA. In 1840, he married HANNA FREDERIKA HOFFMAN b. 1821 in Germany d. 1896 In New Orleans, LA. (Chances are David was probably married before Hanna.) David & Hanna had one son named: ALEXANDER HENRY JOHNSTON b. 1841 in Plaquemines Parish, LA d. 1869 in New Orleans, LA. Alexander married Magdalena Kiessel (Sherwood) b. 1843 in LA. d. 1898 in New Orleans, LA. They had 3 children: WALTER JARVIS b. 1863 d. 1867; HANNA CAROLINE b. 1865 d. 1928; and DAVID MCCOY b. 1867 in New Orleans, LA d. 1919 in New Orleans.
