I'm new to the list and trying to find out more about my greatgrandmother, Julia Johnston, who was born about 1844, married Peter Farrelly about 1860, raised her family in Kingscourt, County Cavan, and died about 1898. The children were raised Catholic, but I don't know what religion Julia was brought up in. I've read Johnston is a Scottish name. Any advice would be appreciated. Diane

How certain are you of the spelling of "Cloyde". I would really believe that it is Clyde. If Dorothy was born 10/24, then obviously her brother was not born 3 1/2 months later, so I would presume the year you want is 1926 :-)

The Clan Johnston/e in America website can be found at this address: http://www.johnstons.org/clan/cja1.html
Dear Sherri, This is a very intriguing story. I'm sorry. I am a Johnston descendant, but I do not believe that I have any connection. You do not say just where all of this took place, or if you have any blood connection. You might want to consult an attorney about state laws. However, it would be my suggestion that you contact a historical or genealogical library in the area. Possibly they would take the donation to their library, for the material to be held in trust. If the descendants ever show up and recognize the connection, perhaps the material could come to them. Good luck on your project. Sandy
Hello Sherri, Are your Johnston's from Arkansas? I will check my mothers listing for the names you mentioned this weekend. WE have James', Sterling's, and George's. My gr gr Grandfather was Iredell Johnston b abt 1820 in NC. He lived in Alabama then moved to Arkansas after the Civil War. His brother Sterling died in Ga before the civil war, but Sterling's sons (George and Julius) also moved into Alabama and Arkansas. The names continue to run in the family from that time. There are few Sterling Johnston's... I am hoping we are related somewhere down the road! You might try contacting Clan Johnston. They have a genealogist who keeps track of the various Johnston families who join the organization. Also look for county/state and surname mailing lists on rootsweb. You could post a note there. Good Luck, Debbi

Nadine died a year ago. She had no siblings. She was closest to her Uncle George who passed years ago. She didn't really keep in touch with many of her relatives. She and my husband adopted each other years ago. We have many family photos, wills, and such that I think should go to blood relatives. Is anyone familiar with any of these families? We are really hoping to return these items to their rightful owners, but if we can't find anyone does anybody have any suggestions on what to do with it? I am really hoping that someone can help me with this project. Thank you, Sherri
John Johnston was said to trade with Spain. His brother, Alfred, was said to run the warehouse at Shuttlefield, Perth. John's daugfhter, Elizabeth (c1767-1854) married James WILKIE at Newburgh. Fife, 3 June 1791. I have not been able to find the name of Elizabeth's mother and there is a family story that she was Spanish. There was a portrait of a Spanish woman hanging in the hall of my great uncle in Opotiki, New Zealand, in the early 1900s, and the great uncle told my aunt that of all the family she resembled the Spanish woman the most. Elizabeth Wilkie emigrated from Perth to New Zealand with her daughter, Mary, son-in-law John Watterson, and children, arr. 17 March, 1841 on the "Lady Nugent" . Does anyone have knowledge of this family? Iris PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE A NEW E-MAIL ADDRESS iris65@ihug.co.nz PLEASE REMOVE MY OLD ADDRESS "tuiris@ihug.co.nz" from your address book and records.
