Sally, The only sibling that I know of was his twin brother William(1745-1825) married Polly Clugston. The father, John, came from Annandale, Devonshire, Scotland in the early 1700's. Robert applied for a land grant in 1789 in the Monroeville/Turtle Creek area east of Pittsburgh. It seems likely that Robert would have had other brothers and sisters but this has not been established. Some information indicates the family came to the Pittsburgh area from Franklin County, PA but this has not been confirmed. I'm trying to trace my Johnston ancestors in Enniskeen and just got a copy of Protestants in Enniskeen, 1802, which shows Johnstons in the townlands of Cortober and Muff. The curate was Arthur Rolleston and his residence was Larchfield. Can anyone tell me if that was Church of Ireland and what present church might have the records? My greatgrandmother, Julia Johnston, was born about 1840, so she would likely have been the daughter or granddaughter of one of the male Johnstons mentioned. Thanks much for any assistance! Diane

She had a son called Abi whom my wife remembers visiting the family in Cambuslang either at the end of WW2 or shortly thereafter. She also remembers Aunt Grace visiting in the late 40s or early 50s. My wife would like to get in touch with Aunt Grace's family so if any of this rings bells - please get in touch. Alan PS she can;t remember Aunt Grace's married name - which make research a trifle more complicated :-)

Answer from Beverly: I was never in Estes Park. Was only in Colorado when my train passed thru going to Seattle. Ir you ever met me, it was either Stone Mtn. or once at Gatlinburg, I think. My James was born in 1761 presumably in Virginia or Pennsylvania. That was the migration route to his part of Georgia. My cousin had his DNA done (which would be the same as James Johnston, Jr., Esq's. He had a perfect match! The man was not connected with our immediate family of Johnstons in any way, but ancestors buried at Old Tennent Church in New Jersey, I believe I remember. This is as far as we got. Isn't that disgusting? Now, if you are related to that family, you may be in the same family tree somewhere as our James. I have his portrait. He was a Sgt. in GA in Rev. War. He could easily have been from a family which migrated down thru Camden District to the Davannah River and on into Georgia into Burke Co. (Burke is a totally "burned out" county.) Other knowledge: his father or at least, his grandfather, had to have been named James, as well. He married first, Mrs. Mary Garner who had a son, Richard Garner before she was married to James. Her first son by Ja! mes Johnston, Jr., was named John Johnston. Also had Alexander, and Young Johnston. He then married Amey Lanier. Sons by her: James Butler Johnston, William Kliber Johnston, and Thomas Jefferson Johnston. These were too old to be Confederate soldiers. I don't believe from information you have give me that we are speaking of either of my James Johnston's. None of the names you mentioned have any meaning to me, but I do thank you for taking the time to answer my emails. If you hear of anything else, would appreciate the information.
