Dear Jean; it looks like I now have the connection for our Johnstons! We are indeed cousins!!! I have received lots of great assistance in tracking these folks down. I was beginning to think I was never meant to find these folks!!! 1. John Johnston 1779 NC 2. John Clark Johnston 1798 Warren, TN 3. Thomas Johnston 1823 Warren, TN 4. George William Johnston 1854 Benton, AR 5. Harmon Richard Johnston 1875 Benton, AR 6. William LeRoy Johnston 1906 Joplin, MO 7. Bill LeRoy Johnston 1929 Joplin, MO 8. Gerald Hankins Johnston 1959 Okla. City I am number 8. Now, your George Washington Johnston was a younger brother of Thomas Johnston, my number 3 above. It appears that many of the family stayed in TN, near the border of AL. However, many of them went to AR and MO, particularly southwest MO. Look this over & se what you think. Could you please send your data again, as I have misfiled it! Also, do you need for me to send mine on the descendents of Thomas Johnston? I am really glad to find this connection. You were so right! It was there after all, I just had to be patient! Thanks! Gerald Hankins "Jerry" Johnston P.S. Do you have any information about the parents of John Johnston, number 1 above, and his family & origin?
Jerry & the Johnston List I too am researching Johnston's from Missouri. Mine are from Callaway Co.. My focus right now is Harrison B. Johnston b. 1841 in Kentucky. His wife was Mary Jane Howe b. in Missouri 1843. One son, Lee Grant Johnston, b. 1875, and one daughter, Sue Bettie Johnston, b. 1867, each married a Ferguson. Lee Grant Johnston married Nannie Ferguson and Sue Bettie married Jasper Felix Ferguson. Both couples were married in 1898. They traveled to El Paso, TX and owned a grocery store there in the early 1900's. I am searching for the siblings and parents of Harrison B. Johnston. Any one with a connection or a lead please feel free to e-mail. Thanks, Sherie Johnston
I am looking for any available information on the family of Thomas Johnston and his wife Martha "Patsy" Belle Frazier. Both of them were born in Warren Co., TN in 1823 and 1827 respectfully. They were married in 1845, in Madison Co., TN; then sometime soon after moved to Benton Co., AR. Their children were possibly all born in Benton Co., AR. Mary D. Johnston "Polly" (Schell) b. 1848 John J.F. Johnston b. 12 Oct. 1850 George W. Johnston b. 1854 married Mary Jane Dowl Mustain Richard F. Johnston Thomas M. Johnston Margaret A. Johnston Robert T. Johnston The family then moved to McDonald Co., MO; where at least Thomas died and is buried. I know that the family is tied to several local families from here and also from Dallas and Greene Counties, MO. These include the Mustains, Wilsons, Hays (Hayes), Morton, and Craig families for sure. If anyone has any information on any of these folks, please let me know. Thanks very much! sometime ago someone on the rootsweb list for Johnston's listed someone with a middle name of Lowery; I remembered the name, printed it off but now can't find it. One of my uncles has that unusual moniker for a middle name and there might be a connection, I'll appreciate anything as I begin searching the archives. Kay Santa [email protected]

Looking for any information on Elizabeth Belle Johnston born about 1873. Place of birth is unknown but I'm working on it. Age was derived from a 1900 census *abstract* book that didn't include birthplaces so I'll try to look up the actual census. Elizabeth Belle Johnston married Elbridge Samuel Click in about 1889 in probably Freestone Co., TX (or surrounding counties). In 1900 they were in "Old Greer Co., TX" which later became 4 counties in extreme southwestern Oklahoma (Greer, Harmon, Jackson, Beckham Co.s). They had 6 known children and I know nothing about Elizabeth's history prior to her marriage. Can anyone help with this Elizabeth Belle Johnston? Earlene [email protected]

Hello list I was wondering if anyone had a Frederick Johnston or Johnson born 1825 in the UK I believe. I have found him on the 1851 census with his wife Mary Ann, but no last name. The census I found him on in 1851 is for Durham county, Ontario, Canada. I seem to be at a dead end and would appreciate any ideas or help anyone can offer. Thanks in advance. Since he was a Freemason, you may be able to petition the Grand Lodge of Scotland for information on his association with the fraternity, which should also corroborate the birth and death dates, along with other information that may help. Of course, I'm speaking from a knowledge of how Grand Lodges work in the US. You're best bet might be to locate a freemason who will put you in touch with the right secretary. Hi Listers This is my first day on the list. I have run into a brick wall in trying to trace my maternal grandfather's family. My grandfather was Andrew JOHNSTON. According to his death certificate, he was born in Edinburgh on 16 January 1888, although he grew up in Aberdeen. He was a "joiner", a member of the Masons, and worked on the construction of ships (including the TITANIC for Harland and Wolfe in Belfast and at another shipyard at Clyde Bank). He worked on the fine carpentry in the first class cabins and salons. His father was also Andrew JOHNSTON, and his mother was Mary, but I do not have her maiden name. His father was a ship's Captain in the British Merchant Marine and was on the European run from Aberdeen. I do not know the name of his ship, which is apparently required to do a research of the Merchant Marine. Both the father and mother were listed on my grandfather's death certificate as being born in the Orkney Islands. My grandfather had two brothers. Albert was employed as the Chief Wireless Operator on the international wireless system at Rugby England when he was visited by his nephew Norman Johnston during the Second World War. Albert's mother, Mary Johnston was living with him at the time. His brother Robert was killed in a motorcycle accident when he was engaged to be married. Date and place unknown. As you all know, Andrew Johnston is a very common name in Scotland. I understand that the 1891 census for Scotland has not been released. Without the maiden name of my great grandmother, I cannot narrow the search down. If the above people sound familiar, or if you could give suggestions on how to proceed from here, I would be very grateful. Norma in Ontario, Canada

Dear List Members, Can someone do a lookup for me in the Family Archive #210 The National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Volumes 1-85, 1600s-1900s. I have seen this listed on Family Tree Makers page. Before I go on a wild goose chase and spend the $45, I wanted to make sure that it is the correct goose. The name is Henry Jonhston or Henry C. Johnston or Henry Clay Johnston. There are actually two Henry Johnstons (father and son). Father 1800-?, son 1845-1914. Both are listed in the 1850 census as living and being born in PA. At some point in time in the 1860's, it appears that Henry C. dropped the "t" and signed his name as Johnson. Thanks for any help, Scott McNabb
Ok if it's quiet I'll babble some - We Know from census etc records that Vincent was born about 1784 in NC - that he married Susannah Fischer in NC about 1807 (I don't have the record in front of me) Esther Majors then Apeecha Leavell/Levell in 1841 Franklin County GA. Someone said they had found a GA state census that listed Vincent with Apucha (a Cherokee Indian) for the 1848 census. apeacha is listed as daughter of Edward Franklin Leavell of Newberry SC and second wife Rachel Williams (who married 1795 Dekalb County GA) in LDS records. Apeacha/Apeecha/Apucha was born 1800 in GA. Vincent had many children with three wives - Darius, Ahashabia, Posey Milton, Pinckney, Elijah, Rachael Marilzia and many more. Vincent may have been a younger son of John and Laura Johnston of Stokes NC. or was he in Cumberland County NC. He may have been in Hall and Franklin Counties in Georgia before landing in Broomtown Valley, Chattooga County GA Open to ideas and clues for this family - Good Hunting Doris Mayer Reece Branchville Alabama

Fresno Police raided a Bingo game of 80-90 yrs women. The Police has put a stop to the Monday Night Bingo game ran by some 70, 80 to 90 year women, now the women are fighting back and has a city councilman on their side. The little old ladies has had the game going for 30 years, took them long enough to catch them!!!!!. Police says they have to have a permit to run the game every Monday night. Their big jackpot is $10.00 every Monday night. Maybe I'll go play bingo with them all, sounds like a hot game Maybe they should get into genealogy instead! But if they end up picketing the Police Dept. guess I'll join them, sounds like a worth while thing to do. When I heard this on the news this morning, I cracked up. Jean Fresno CA
