    1. [JOHNSTON] Logan Co., KY. Johnstons
    2. Colleen Eagan
    3. Hi to all, I've just read all the Johnston-L archives and didn't see any of the Logan Co., KY Johnstons mentioned. I've got a bunch of them I am trying to sort them out. So, if anyone can give me some answers about the following, I will be most appreciative. First, there are four separate Johnston groups in early Logan Co., KY. (1) Nathan Johnston group from South Carolina (want to know more about his son, James Johnston) (2) William Johnston group from Virginia (would like their children's names) (3) David Johnston from North Carolina; moved to Williamson Co., TN.(his son, James Johnston, married Mary McConnell and we are looking for all their children) (4) James and Sarah Johnston Family, also from So. Carolina.(would like to have names of their children) And if that isn't enough to keep one busy, try the next group: Does anyone know anything about the following couples? a.Rebecca Johnston who married Robert Sanford( who does she belong to?) b.Betsy Johnston who married William Riley Holley(how about her parents?) c.David M. Johnston who married Pamelia Martin(he died in MO.; who and where are his children?) Any clues will be appreciated. Will be happy to share what info I have. Colleen.

    3. I'm searching for more information on the family of Alexander Johnston who was the son of Michael and Elizabeth Johnston of Cumberland Co., Kentucky. Michael died there in 1819. Alexander married Rachael Richardson who was born in 1797 in Tennessee to George Richardson and Comfort Claywell and married in Cumberland Co., Kentucky. They were known to be living in Blount Co., Alabama in 1850. I know of one daughter Louisa and I've heard that Alexander was a lawyer. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated. 3. This article came in an Irish e-mail newsletter today. I've put the subscribing info. at the end if anyone is interested. I've no connection with the newsletter - I just receive it. Regards, Maureen in Sydney (nee JOHNSTON) FEATURE ARTICLE In the wake of 'Jeanie Johnston' By Francis Dowling. Memories of famine emigration are being evoked in County Kerry this week where a full-size replica of a 19th century ship has just been launched for a return journey to the New World. Situated beside the Blennerville Windmill just west of Tralee, the "Jeanie Johnston" has been under construction for the last two years. Employing a team of over 200 Irish and international students and shipwrights, the project involved the reconstruction of a triple-masted 135-foot vessel, an exact replica of a Famine Era immigrant ship which carried thousands of emigrants frantic to escape a famine stricken country in the years 1847-1858. The original Jeanie Johnston was built in Quebec in 1847 and bought shortly afterwards by the Donovan family of Tralee. She was a triple-masted barque, constructed of oak and pine, and carried a full complement of 200 passengers and a crew of 17. The replica ship will carry 40 people, 10 professional crew, 18 volunteer crew and 12 passengers. Unlike many of the 'coffin ships' of the period, the 'Jeanie Johnston' was remarkable in never losing a passenger to disease or the sea. She had a humane owner in Nicholas Donovan, her master was the respected County Cork mariner Capt. James Attridge and the ship's surgeon, Dr. Richard Blennerhassett was a graduate of the Edinburgh Medical School. The Jeanie Johnston was sold off by the Donovans in 1856 and continued to sail the North Atlantic. In October 1858 while transporting a cargo of timber, she became waterlogged in mid-Atlantic and sank. All of her crew was rescued hence maintaining the ship's remarkable safety record intact. Fitting out is expected to be complete by the end of May at which time the replica Jeanie Johnston will sail from Tralee across the Atlantic on a "Millennium Voyage" to North America. She will follow the route taken by the Irish Famine ships of the 19th century, calling at 20 U.S. and Canadian cities over a seven-month period. After its North American sojourn, the "Jeanie Johnston" will return to Ireland to become a permanent floating museum at Tralee. The total cost of the project (over IR 4.5 million or US $6.5 million) also includes a brand-new Shipyard with Visitor Museum, craft shops, restaurant, and research centre. I believe that anyone born prior to statehood would have been listed in a Virginia or Maryland census. Death certificates may also list place of birth as Virginia or Maryland if the individual was born prior to statehood. I am unaware if the county names or configurations changed after statehood, but I am sure there were some changes. Scott

    3. Jerry, Who's Jean, and how related? Are you still in Oklahoma? Are there any other relatives there? My grandfather, grandmother, Dad and brother are buried in the Jennings Cemetery. And I know Sherman Johnston, Ruby Standley Arnett(my aunt), and their children were from the area. Ruby's son's name is Gilbert Arnett and Sherman's son is Larry Johnston(supposedly in real estate). Maybe you could track them down. They used to be in the Oklahoma City area. There are tons of Johnston in Oklahoma that I can't find any connection to ours. And please send me your Gedcom of your family. On the one I sent you, my Dad is Odell Amos Johnston. Do you know where the name LeRoy started in our family? My Grandpa was Earnest LeRoy, and I see it's in your family too. Now that you've made the connection, go to GenForum "Johnston" and do some searches. You'll find there's quite a bit of info......most of which you now have, but you can make connections with others you are also related to.....we DO have cousins!
