Johnston, was born circa 1809 in SC. He married Frances Raines Pickett in SC and they moved, I think, in the 1840s to FL. One son, James Francis Pickett Johnston, b. 1835 is my G Grandfather. Both were Captains in the FL Mounted Volunteers in the mid 1850s in the last Seminole Indian War. Looking for the parents of Abner D. Johnston, probably in SC. With these, I believe I can bridge to genealogy already done, back to Ireland/Scotland. I will appreciate any leads.

    1. [JOHNSTON] Charles Johnston
    2. Does anyone have information on a Charles (Charlie) Johnston, who was born about 1850, probably in Memphis? He is in the 1860 census at his parents Memphis address, which shows him as under 12. We have a picture of him, showing a young man with a moustache, probably about 20, tho possibly a little older. This picture was taken in Memphis. In 1871, his parents, Daniel Allen (Dan) Johnston and Arrabella (Belle) Williams Johnston, moved to Nashville. We do not know what became of Charley. There is a letter written by Dan in 1871, which mentions "my two little orphans." There is an earlier letter by Dan, written in 1870, which mentions "Kathy and the children." This leads me to wonder if Charley died leaving a widow and two children, with the young widow dying soon after. Does anyone have any information on this family? Thanks, Jim Brooks

    3. Hi Johnston seekers, I found REBECCA ANN JOHNSTON. She was born in SC ca. 1808; married ROBERT SANFORD in Logan Co., KY. in 1828; they moved to Muhlenberg Co., KY. and were living there in 1830; in 1840, Rebecca is a widow in Macoupin Co., IL. and has six girls in her household. She remarried to JAMES WILLIAMS in 1842 in Macoupin Co., IL. and she and James appear in the 1850 and 1860 censuses in Macoupin Co., IL. Since Rebecca was born in SC., she is not part of the JAMES JOHNSTON/MARY MCCONNELL family I am seeking. Thanks for all the suggestions and help on that particular situation. However, I am still seeking information on the family of DAVID JOHNSTON (NC) who had land on the RED RIVER in southern Logan Co., KY. Some of the names associated with Daivd's land surveys (1804) are ROBERT JOHNSTON, JOHN JOHNSTON, ZEPHENIAH JOHNSTON, WILLIAM JOHNSTON. There was, also, a FRANCIS JOHNSTON who had land surveyed in 1804 on the Big Whippoorwill in southern Logan Co., KY. Both of these locations are near the border of Robertson Co., TN. As I mentioned before, DAVID JOHNSTON moved on to Williamson Co., TN. and died there in 1829. Anyone have these names in their family line? Will appreciate any clues. Colleen
