    2. Joy Hobbs
    3. Considering that the name JOHNSTON was the 7th most common name in the USA - I want to say the year was 1957, it's amazing that anyone can locate relatives! (Honest, I read this somewhere after starting my gene quest) For some reason I thought the Irish had good records kept, but on checking the sources on GENUKI, I find most records were lost in a fire about 1922. Pity that heritage. But, my personal group leads me back to a miniscule area of Scotland on the western coast, SEIL & LUING & adjacent areas in Argyll Parish. If any of you connect to that specific area, please advise. Good luck to all with your ancestor hunting!

    3. Posted on: Johnston Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/joh/Johnston/297 Surname: Branum, Biser, Hornback, Johnston ------------------------- I am also trying to tie my Johnston family in somewhere. My twice great grandfather was William R. Johnston, who was born in Ireland around 1797. I have no idea when he emigrated or where he may have lived before marrying my twice great grandmother, Kissiah Hornback in Platte City, Missouri in 1853. He is not in the Platte or Clay County census for 1850. The family then appears in the 1860 census for what is now Cherokee County, Kansas, and the 1870 census in Bates County, Missouri. I am awaiting his Civil War pension records from Washington and hope those shed some light on his background. Do you have a William of the right age that doesn't connect anywhere?

    3. Posted on: Johnston Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/joh/Johnston/294 Surname: Johnston, Bricken, Savage, Doom ------------------------- Arlene, That is a possibility. I know he had a brother named William who went to Taylorsville, KY from Shippenburg, Pa in the 1830's. His name may have been William Harvey Johnston. His headstone reads Hervey Johnston (old weathered stone), but I have documentation also as to Harvey. Harvey was born in 1813, his mother died when he was six. I have no name for his mother. Does this help. Charles
