Posted on: Johnston Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/joh/Johnston/379 Surname: Johnston ------------------------- My great grandfather was James Johnston, wife Emma, they had a son Herbert (my grandfather) another son name unknown and a daughter name unknown. Herbert lived in Ohio and died in 1936. At the time of his death it was listed that he had one brother and a sister still living in Ohio, but again did not show their names. My father (Herbert's son) is named Joseph so your message got my attention, since during past years given names were often carried down through the family. Not much to go on, but I appreciate any response. Thanks.

My great-grandmother was Florence Douglas (2/15/01 - 1/79) and my great-grandfather was James Johnston (3/10/1884 - 4/83). They had 5 children, and James was a farmer. Both James and Florence were from the West Plains area of southern Missouri. James' mother (possibly grandmother) was Sarah Kenslow. Family history is rather vague and I am just begining after working on the Langlois side for the past few years. Sound familiar to anyone? I know that this is not a lot of information to go on, but any leads would be greatly appreciated since I am in Chicago and can not make it down to Missouri to start digging into records. Thanks! Posted on: Johnston Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/surnames/joh/Johnston/376 Surname: Johnston ------------------------- Hi I am trying to locate a John Johnston, brother of Malcolm Johnston Jnr and son of Malcolm Johnston Snr and Ms Wilson. Malcolm Johnston Snr and Ms Wilson (Jessie?) were married in May 1911 (possible the 26th or 21st). On Malcolm Jnr birth certificate, Malcolm Snrs occupation is listed as Iron Driller. The address is too difficult to read but could be Domid 23 White Street Govan ? Malcolm Johnston Jnr was born 18 July 1912 in Blytheswood, Glasgow, Scotland and moved to New Zealand between 1938 to 1940. (Married Johanna Bonisch in June 1940) John Johnston was 2 or 3 years younger than Malcolm Jnr ie born 1913 - 1916 approx. ie in the "can't have the records for the last 100 years void". Malcolm Jnr and John were orphaned and lived with the Peterson family and their 9 children. On Malcolm Jnrs "Regular Unemployment Book" for 1938-39 his address is "Crawford" 30 Pollock St, Glasgow. When Malcolm Jnr moved to New Zealand, John disappeared and hasnt been heard of since. If anybody has any clues as to how I can track down John Johnston to determine if he is still alive and if so where, I would very much appreciate the help. Do any of the above people appear on the end of your family tree? If you have any info re Malcolm Johnston Snr or anybody else relevant I would appreciate it also. Thank you very much for any morsels you can throw my way. Regards Belinda

John, I don't know about any other states other than Ohio.
My great grandfather name was Samual Flick Johnston, he went by Samual F. Johnston, born 4/24/1876 and died 3/26/1937. I believe in Crawford County, Galion, Ohio. He was married to Hazel Hopkins Johnston and she died 3/17/1944 same area. How do I go about getting a copy of their obituarys. Also does any one have any information on Samual, I believe he had 3 sisters. The information I have on his parents are sketchy at most Mary Marsha & father Crawford. I do know that died and Samual and sisters were raised by Quakers.
