I know most of the names of my great grandfather James' grandchildren and have no Jesse among them. As far as I know they stayed in Illinois. Sorry. If you learn different, please let me know.
Posted on: Johnston Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/joh/Johnston/403 Surname: Johnston, Johnson ------------------------- Hi there: I am searching for info on my great grandfather Jessy or Jesse Johnston or Johnson who was born in 1850 time area place unknown. He just sort of shows up at marriage to Rachel Annie Rawlings in 1870 Knox County Missouri. Could he be this James Johnston???? from Illinois??? Just wondering......
Searching for info on Harrison B. JOHNSTON/JOHNSON m. Mary Jane HOWE. Harrison was born approx. 1841 in Kentucky. Mary Jane was born approx. 1843 in MO. Their children listed in the 1880 Callaway Co., MO census were Sue Bettie age 13, Harry H. age 9, Charles A. age 7, Lee Grant age 4, and Annie M. age 1. Sue Bettie JOHNSON orJOHNSTON m. Jasper Felix FERGUSON. Lee Grant JOHNSTON m. Nannie FERGUSON. The other children and the parents are missing after and before 1880. I haven't been able to locate them any where else. Any leads or connections would be appreciated. Lee Grant JOHNSTON always went by JOHNSTON, but the family is listed both ways. In 1880 they are listed as JOHNSON. In 1900, Lee Grant is listed as JOHNSTON. In 1910, Nannie FERGUSON, now married is listed as JOHNSON. In 1920, Nannie's son Lee Roy is listed as JOHNSTON. The JOHNSTON stuck with Lee Roy's descendants. Thank you all for your help. Sherie JOHNSTON
Posted on: Johnston Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/joh/Johnston/402 Surname: Johnstone, Johnston, Rodgerson, Wright, Wilson ------------------------- My great grandfather was William Johnston of Illiopolis, IL. He married Lillias Helen Wright, daughter of John and Helen (Wilson) Wright. He was the son of James Johnstone, born 1805 in Lochmaben, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. James married Mary Rodgerson 1835 in Annan, Scotland. They had 7 children: James, Jannet, John, Elizabeth, George, William, David, and Thomas. The family came to the Barclay area of Sangamon County, Il. in 1853, later moving to Illiopois about 1866. I would appreciate any information on any of these families and am willing to share what I know.

Mine was Daniel Johnston and he was a servant to the Earl of Lauderdale who spent most of his time in Edinburgh (same time period as yours). Mine emigrated to USA and was in Indiana by 1830... You might be interested to know two facts on the Johnston name, 1: it is the 16th most common name in Scotland 2: the first street you encounter when you leave Edinburgh Castle is Johnston Terrace.. I sent several emails to historians in Edinburgh but no one knew why it was called Johnston Terrace. They did say it was likely called that in the late 18th to early 19th century.... Rich
