I am another Johnson/Smith researcher. I have John Wesley JOHNSON born abt 1818 in IL - married 1/3/1850 to Missouri Ann SMITH born abt 1828 in KY. Her parents are Alfred SMITH born abt 1804 in VA - married 10/28/1824 in Green Co KY to Rebecca Redman born abt 1805 in VA. I am unable to determine who John Wesley JOHNSON's parents are. There are a lot of JOHNSONs in Macoupin Co IL where he and Missouri Ann lived all of their married life. There were several families of SMITH and REDMAN who moved from Green Co KY to Macoupin Co IL in the late 1840's. And, I believe they intermarried with the PETERS family in that county after moving there. John Wesley usually went by J Wesley JOHNSON. I think he died about 1865 but not in the civil war. Have never found anyone out there researching this JOHNSON/SMITH line yet, but it has been awhile since posted anything. I definitely have empathy with anyone researching JOHNSON/SMITH (guess Jones and Smith could be worse).!
