    1. ANOTHER JOHNSON/GILBERT MARRIAGE
    2. Carolyn Sue Howard
    3. I found this while looking at the Gilbert GenForum web site today: My 4th great grandmother Emily Ann Gilbert was born in South Carolina about 1790. She married John Ashley Johnson about 1815 probably in the Pendleton District, South Carolina and probably by a Baptist preacher. John Ashley Johnson's parents were John Johnson and Agnes Clark of Bedford Co., Virginia. The Clarks and Johnsons were prominent Quakers in Bedford Co. and before that in Louisa Co., Virginia. My dilemma is that I have never been able to find any information on Emily Ann Gilbert's ancestry. Since the Clarks and Johnsons left the Society of Friends (Quakers) in the 1780s and become Baptists, I wonder if there may have been Quaker Gilberts who might have done likewise. Emily Ann Gilbert had been married prior to her marriage to John Ashley Johnson. Her first husband was a Givens, first name unknown. Its possible the Gilbert and Givens families may have lived in a Quaker Community in South Carolina though were not Friends themselves. I welcome any information or suggestions. Please reply directly to my email address. Thank you. Gregory McReynolds Pasadena, California
